Harry Potter: Transmigrated Detective Link

Chapter 265: Link’s Laid-Back Camping

On the night before the Quidditch World Cup finals, Mrs. Flamel, as planned, brought Link and Emily onto a carriage driven by Little Button.

They first went to the Scamander home to pick up Rolf, and only then Apparated to the nearest transfer point to the stadium.

Under the guidance of two staff members whose dark eye bags had already spread down to their cheeks, they finally made their way toward the campsite.

Rolf was a very sensible and well-behaved child.

During the summer holidays, Link had built an extraordinary friendship with him and his grandfather, and Link had even promised to look after Rolf at school.

By rights, Rolf could have easily ridden on that promise and become a well-known figure at Hogwarts, but he didn't do that.

In fact, for the whole past term, he didn't even once take the initiative to go find Link.

Deep down, he was afraid of bringing trouble to Link.

That was a rare and precious quality.

And since he was also very cute by nature, both Mrs. Flamel and Emily couldn't help but feel fondness toward him, always rushing forward to pinch his cheeks the moment they met.

Rolf was terrified of this.

Neither Emily nor Mrs. Flamel were gentle souls, and Rolf had heard their fierce reputations so often that his ears had grown calluses.

So the whole way, he all but clung behind Link, not daring to even glance at Emily or Mrs. Flamel.

This timid appearance made everyone in the carriage burst into laughter.

Of course, that laughter was kind.

Rolf himself could feel that.

But he just couldn't control the urge to keep hiding, and squeezed himself even closer behind Link.

Finally, they arrived at the campsite.

Everyone got out of the carriage.

The two Ministry staff members had arranged a campsite for Link's family on a small hillside with an extremely broad view.

From here, they could clearly see the majestic Quidditch stadium in the distance, as well as the nearby lakes and forest scenery.

Most importantly, this spot was a good distance away from the other campsites, nicely protecting their privacy.

This was the treatment that came with top-class tickets. The rest, those who only had ordinary tickets, could only squeeze themselves into the common camping areas farther out, living lives comparable to tiny subdivided flats in Hong Kong.

"Alright! Let's start setting up the tent!"

After gazing for a while at the surrounding scenery, Link waved his arm and shouted excitedly.

In his previous life, he had been a loyal fan of Laid-Back Camp, and had long yearned for those camping scenes where everyone worked together.

Now that he finally had the chance to experience it for himself, he was naturally thrilled.

Unfortunately, his wish to pitch tents and even cook together with everyone was destined to fail.

Because just as his voice fell, Little Button, who had still been handling the carriage, suddenly appeared before him.

"Little Button reporting! My Young master!"

Little Button gave Link a deep bow, then moved in a blur. In an instant, a massive tent, about 4 meters high and covering some 30 square meters, inflated like a balloon.

Not only that, he even set up a rain shelter not far from the tent, lit a magical campfire beneath it, and placed a row of tables and chairs.

Even after doing all this, Little Button still wasn't satisfied. He stood there rubbing his chin for a while, then conjured up a pot of thick soup and hung it over the campfire, before finally shouting to the dumbstruck Link,

"Setup complete! My Young master!"

Hearing this, Link finally snapped back. He looked around at everything, then said with a wry smile to Little Button, "Little Button, aren't you taking a bit too much care of us?"

"Oh, not at all, not at all, this is what Little Button should do!"

Little Button thought Link was praising him, and stood there rocking with excitement as he spoke.

Seeing this, Link didn't say anything more.

House-elves were creatures with an excessively strong sense of shame. If Link actually said what he was truly thinking, Little Button would probably kill himself on the spot to apologize.

All he could do was grumble inwardly that household magic was simply too overpowered, sigh, and lead Rolf into the tent.

This tent had been specially customized by Mrs. Flamel for this "trip."

Though it didn't look very big from the outside, it had been enchanted with an Extension Charm. Inside, it held no fewer than six bedrooms, plus a parlor, an entertainment room, and three bathrooms.

It was Rolf's first time seeing something so luxurious. His eyes sparkled as he looked around, curious about everything.

But whatever little expectation Link still had for camping faded further the moment he stepped inside.

Because the interior design of the tent was an exact replica of Flamel Castle.

The moment he walked in, it almost felt like he was back home.

To be honest, being able to feel at home in the wilderness was a kind of happiness, but what he was seeking was that special feeling of camping.

"tsk!"

Clicking his tongue in dissatisfaction, Link turned and rushed back out of the tent.

Although everything so far had been different from the camping life he'd imagined, at least there was one thing that wouldn't change, the sunrise.

The sun wasn't going to suddenly rise in the west just because of magic.

With earnest anticipation, Link went under the rain shelter, buried himself into a portable mesh recliner like in Laid-Back Camp, held a cup of coffee, and gazed eastward.

Rolf, who had just started exploring the tent, panicked when he saw Link was gone and ran outside,

Only to see Link sprawled on the chair, looking utterly content, like a salted fish.

Though he didn't know what Link was doing, he remembered his grandfather's reminder before leaving, to listen to Link.

So he sat down and copied Link's posture.

After a while, Emily and Mrs. Flamel also joined Link and Rolf.

The four of them lay there in a row, nobody speaking.

The surroundings were perfectly quiet, broken only by faint insect chirps and the crackling of the campfire.

In that still atmosphere, smiles slowly spread across all their faces.

Sometimes, lying down and thinking of nothing at all was actually pretty nice.

But such an atmosphere could never last long. As dawn began to break, Emily finally recovered herself and asked the question she had wanted to ask all along.

"Link, what are we sitting here for?"

"To watch the sunrise…"

Link answered softly without turning his head, his voice still carrying that hazy, dreamy tone, like someone not yet awake.

At his words, Emily, Mrs. Flamel, and even Rolf all turned to look at him with baffled expressions.

"Uh, Link, actually…" Emily hesitated. "The Daily Prophet said today would be cloudy. We probably won't see any sunrise."

"Huh?"

Link's unfocused eyes snapped sharply into focus, and he sprang up from his recliner.

He looked at the thick cloud cover in the distance that only faintly glowed with light, then at Emily's awkward expression. Finally, he let out a wail of despair.

His camping dream… was completely ruined.
