Harry Potter: Transmigrated Detective Link

Chapter 260: Fudge’s Trial Invitation

The next day, Link was woken up by Mrs. Flamel shaking him.

She was clearly extremely delighted by Link's sudden return, and, ignoring his sleepy and tired state, she directly pulled him downstairs.

Then, under the pretext of having breakfast, she chatted with Link for the entire morning.

Link was utterly speechless about this, but he still went along obediently.

Because Mrs. Flamel gave him a feeling of family warmth, something he had not felt in a long time.

And during the chatting process, Link naturally told Mrs. Flamel all about his experience in that little chapel, as well as the reason why he had to return early.

As he expected, Mrs. Flamel expressed understanding toward his actions.

What's more, Link, who had mastered Legilimency, even read from Mrs. Flamel's expression and tone a hint of joy and relief.

Link guessed that Mrs. Flamel probably had never expected him to complete the entire course of treatment from the start.

Being able to reach this point now might have already exceeded her expectations.

It is worth mentioning that,

When Link mentioned that last night he had pointed his wand at Doctor Kane, Mrs. Flamel's face instantly went deathly pale.

At the same time, she kept calling "Merlin, oh Merlin" nonstop.

Her reaction was as if the fact that Link did something like that and had not been torn into pieces by Doctor Kane was nothing short of a miracle.

However, when Link tried to take advantage of the moment to probe more into Doctor Kane's background, Mrs. Flamel refused to say anything at all.

Link could only give up helplessly, and after resting for a while, returned to his room to continue studying the special meditation method he had learned from Doctor Kane.

He had even planned to devote most of the remaining holiday to it,

So that he could come into contact with that kind of power Doctor Kane had said was buried in his bloodline.

Unfortunately, plans could never keep up with changes.

In the entire following week, Mrs. Flamel maintained that astonishing enthusiasm.

She pushed aside all work and stayed in Flamel Castle every day, eating meals with Link and chatting with him.

This left Link rather speechless, because Mrs. Flamel seemed to have an endless amount to say, often keeping him talking for an entire afternoon.

But Link could understand this.

After all, Mrs. Flamel had pitifully few opportunities to communicate with her son, so this situation was normal.

That sort of scene where two people with deep bonds have not met for a long time, but upon meeting have nothing to say, that would be unscientific.

Of course, enthusiasm always fades.

After a week, Link clearly felt that Mrs. Flamel was sticking to him much less.

But just when Link thought Mrs. Flamel would be like those parents in his previous life, extremely warm to their children at the start of a holiday but growing tired of them as time went on, reality gave him a slap in the face.

Because he had overlooked one thing,

The Flamel family was not like most families in his previous life who generally had not achieved financial freedom.

His family had plenty of Galleons.

And with money came the ability to use other interesting activities to keep that enthusiasm going.

Mrs. Flamel did exactly that.

She directly summoned Emily, and then took Link and Emily along to begin countless entertainment activities such as horse riding, traveling, enjoying Muggle cuisine, and shopping,

Clearly intending to keep Link immersed in eating, drinking, and having fun for the entire holiday.

And to persuade Link to enjoy himself with peace of mind, Mrs. Flamel even brought out a very reasonable explanation, "These recreational activities can fully relax your tense mind and make your spirit stronger! This way, you'll be able to better resist the influence of that bloodline, won't you?"

This reasoning was truly unbeatable, Link couldn't find a single place to refute it.

By this point, Link had basically given up on his so-called earlier plan.

Because although this eating, drinking, and playing around did little to improve his strength, it really was enjoyable!

Unfortunately, not long after Link had truly settled in to enjoy himself, the chubby Minister of Magic, Fudge, knocked on the gates of Flamel Castle.

At that time, Link, Mrs. Flamel, and Emily had just returned from shopping, and the large number of shopping bags nearly filled the entire castle hall.

Upon hearing Little Button hurriedly report, the three who had been chatting about the fun of yesterday's shopping froze for a moment.

"What's he here for?"

Link pondered for a moment, then frowned and asked.

Hearing this, Mrs. Flamel rolled her neck, "Who knows? But leaving a guest outside the whole time wouldn't be good either. In any case, Little Button, go ahead and bring him in."

As soon as she said this, Little Button snapped his fingers and vanished.

A moment later, he returned leading Fudge inside.

"Hahaha! Mrs. Flamel, your castle truly is magnificent! I daresay this is absolutely the finest private castle in all of Britain!"

As soon as he entered, Fudge began loudly praising Flamel Castle.

After saying this, and without caring about how Link and the others reacted, he walked straight over to Mrs. Flamel, "It really has been such a long time, Mrs. Flamel! I've heard you've been spending this time at home with your son, enjoying a warm and leisurely life, oh, how I envy you!"

As he spoke, Fudge even extended his hand, apparently wanting to shake hers.

Unfortunately, Mrs. Flamel had already resumed that cold-as-ice expression she always wore in front of outsiders, with no intention whatsoever of raising her hand to match Fudge's.

Not only her, even Emily had the same expression.

The two of them standing together now, if you ignored their faces and body shapes, were almost like they had been carved from the same mold.

"Spare us the unnecessary words and actions," Mrs. Flamel said coldly. "Just state your purpose for coming this time, we don't have much time to waste with you."

With these words, the atmosphere instantly grew even more awkward.

Fortunately, Fudge's skin was thick enough; he withdrew his hand, rubbed it a couple of times on his suit jacket a bit unnaturally, and then said with an awkward laugh,

"Ha-ha! Mrs. Flamel is still as straightforward as ever. Actually, I'm here this time mainly to see Link."

"To see me?"

Link said with some surprise.

Mrs. Flamel and Emily both frowned at this.

"Yes! Link! You still remember when you caught Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew, right?"

Fudge said with a squinting smile, "In a week, the Wizengamot will hold the final trial for this case! I came this time to invite you to observe the trial."

"Also, in a few days, the Daily Prophet will arrange for a reporter to interview you about this case. I've already prepared the article draft for you, just hope you can cooperate."

As he said this, Fudge handed Link an invitation sealed with wax.

"Sorry, I'm a bit tired lately. Minister Fudge, you'd better invite someone else, I think Professor Snape would be a good choice."

Link refused almost without hesitation.

Because he truly had no interest in the outcome for Sirius Black or Peter Pettigrew.

Moreover, the interview activity Fudge mentioned was clearly not going to be trouble-free.

He didn't lack a bit of fame right now, so naturally, he didn't want to bother with it.

Mrs. Flamel and Emily, upon hearing this, were also displeased.

They began helping Link voice rejection.

They were having such a good time with Link every day now, and Fudge just showed up wanting him to abandon them and get busy again, what a joke.

But in the midst of all this rejection, Fudge kept smiling.

He waited until everyone had finished speaking, then cleared his throat and said with great confidence, "Link, I can cancel the interview for you, but if you don't go to observe that Wizengamot trial, you will regret it."

"Oh? Is that so?" Link raised an eyebrow and spoke slowly.

Beside him, Mrs. Flamel and Emily's gazes toward Fudge also turned unfriendly.

Clearly, they had all heard a hint of threat in Fudge's words.

"Yes, because after the trial ends, we will hold a grand award ceremony for you." Fudge was utterly unafraid, puffing out his big belly.

"Order of Merlin, Second Class! Congratulations, Link! After discussions among all members of the Order of Merlin, we unanimously agreed you absolutely deserve this honor!"

"What? You're going to award Link the Order of Merlin, Second Class?!"

Mrs. Flamel and Emily instantly jumped to their feet, shouting in unison.

"That's right! You heard correctly!"

"This is… fantastic!" Mrs. Flamel clenched her fists and turned to shout at Link, "Minister Fudge is right! That damned trial, you must go watch it! Not just you, our whole family will go!"

"I'm going too!" Emily said hurriedly.

But Mrs. Flamel only smiled and touched Emily's face, "What silly thing are you saying, little Emily? Our family already includes you!"

Such straightforward words made Emily's pretty face flush red, and she shyly ran back to her room.

Seeing this, Mrs. Flamel laughed heartily, then turned and began enthusiastically discussing with Minister Fudge about the matter of Link receiving the medal.

Her attitude had completely reversed from just moments ago.

Watching this scene, Link could only shake his head speechlessly.

Mrs. Flamel was perfect in every way, except she cared far too much about the Order of Merlin medal.

But this was not surprising.

After all, this was a shared obsession between her and the late Lord Flamel. Although Link had already fulfilled it once a few years ago by earning the Order of Merlin, Third Class, Mrs. Flamel would certainly never refuse the chance to fulfill it again.

What truly surprised Link was Fudge.

He really hadn't expected that the ever-pie-in-the-sky Fudge would actually follow through this time and get him an Order of Merlin, Second Class.

Although part of this was obviously Fudge making a trade with him and the Flamel family for his own benefit, being able to do this was still commendable enough.

Thinking so, Link could only sigh and continue watching Mrs. Flamel and Fudge discuss the details of the award ceremony day.

——«

A week later in the early morning, urged by Mrs. Flamel and Emily, Link got up early to dress and wash.

Unlike the last award ceremony, this time Link was no longer relying on his Hogwarts uniform to show his identity as a student.

Mrs. Flamel had not only had custom dresses made for herself and Emily, she had also made a matching one for Link.

Of course, the color was still the somber black,

After all, this was the Flamel family's representative color.

After that, the three of them did not use the Floo Network, which might soil their outfits, but instead rode a flying carriage, letting Little Button take them directly to the Ministry of Magic.

The Ministry's atrium could only be described as gilded splendor.

The floor was entirely made of polished, glossy dark wood; the peacock-blue ceiling was inlaid with countless shining golden symbols that constantly moved and shifted, a bit like those giant pixelated display screens from Link's previous life.

In the center of the atrium stood a large set of solid gold statues.

The tallest was a noble-looking wizard, raising his wand high and pointing to the sky.

Surrounding him were a beautiful witch, a centaur, a goblin, and a house-elf.

They all looked upward, gazing in admiration at the wizard.

Several clear streams of water constantly gushed from various points on the statues, falling into a recessed basin below to form a small pool.

The bottom of the pool was piled with countless shiny coins, mostly bronze Knuts and silver Sickles, though a few gold ones could be spotted if you looked closely.

Link would bet that anyone born in the wizarding world coming to the Ministry for the first time would be struck speechless in awe.

This was not only because of the overly luxurious décor,

But also because of the sheer number of people here.

Just like now, countless wizards and witches were constantly arriving through the golden Floo fireplaces set into the walls on both sides, or by Apparating into the atrium.

Then, with hurried steps, they went through magical elevators to their own work posts.

If you ignored the magical elements, this place was practically a bustling transportation hub.

Scenes of such crowds were extremely rare in the wizarding world.

As guests invited to observe the trial, Link and Mrs. Flamel naturally did not have to squeeze in with the Ministry employees.

Nor did they undergo the usual wand inspections or series of spells like the Probity Probe.

In fact, they had barely been in the atrium for long when a pretty female clerk in Ministry uniform hurried over in high heels, leading them onto a dedicated magical elevator.

Unlike the others, this elevator had a male attendant in a bright red uniform.

When the three entered, he bowed respectfully, then used his wand to press a certain switch.

With the rattling sound of chains, the elevator slowly descended.

"Ninth Level, Department of Mysteries."

With the sound of a cold female voice, the elevator stopped.

The reception clerk and the man in red hurried to open the grate, bending at the waist and saying, "Please, honored guests."
