Harry Potter: Toji Potter

Chapter 97: The Hollow Hunt and Renji

In the shadowy depths of Las Noches, Aizen gazed at his monitor, a small smile playing on his lips. "It seems the human boy has surpassed even my expectations. How... interesting."

He leaned back in his chair, gesturing lazily to Gin Ichimaru, who stood nearby with his ever-present grin.

"Forge the situation, Gin. Have Rukia marked as a criminal for transferring her powers to a human."

Gin chuckled, his grin widening. "Oh? Sending her a one-way ticket back to the Soul Society, are we? How dramatic."

Aizen's gaze sharpened. "It will drive a wedge. Between her and the human, between her and the Gotei 13. A single spark can ignite a flame, and flames spread."

Gin bowed mockingly. "As you wish, Captain Aizen."

Back in Karakura Town, Ichigo sat in class, barely paying attention to the teacher's droning voice. Across the room, Uryu Ishida adjusted his glasses, his sharp gaze fixed on Ichigo.

At lunch, Ishida approached Ichigo, his tone icy but his challenge clear.

"Kurosaki, I challenge you. A Hollow-slaying competition."

Ichigo raised an eyebrow, leaning back in his chair. "A competition? Seriously? What's the point?"

"The point," Uryu snapped, "is to prove the superiority of the Quincy over the Shinigami. Or in your case, the wannabe Shinigami."

That did it. Ichigo stood up, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Fine. After school. Don't cry when I wipe the floor with you."

After school, Ichigo and Uryu met at a clearing on the outskirts of town. Rukia trailed behind, trying to intervene.

"This is reckless!" she hissed. "Do you even know what you're doing?"

Uryu ignored her, pulling out a small cylindrical object.

"Hollow bait," he explained, holding it up. "This will attract them in droves."

"Put that away!" Rukia shouted, lunging to stop him.

She was just too little too late. Uryu crushed the bait in his hand, scattering its contents. The air grew heavy, an oppressive spiritual pressure descending upon the area. Hollows began to appear, their distorted forms crawling from the shadows.

Ichigo cracked his knuckles, stepping forward. "Guess it's showtime."

As the Hollows charged, Ichigo vanished in a blur of motion. Rukia's eyes widened as she struggled to follow his movements.

"Hirenkyaku?" Uryu muttered in disbelief, recognizing the Quincy movement technique.

"No," Rukia said, shaking her head. "It's... faster. Smoother."

Ichigo reappeared behind a Hollow, his Zanpakuto already slicing through its mask. He vanished again, reappearing mid-air to dispatch another. His movements were fluid, combining Shinigami flash step with Quincy speed, creating a technique both versatile and unpredictable.

Hollows fell one after another, unable to keep up with Ichigo's relentless assault.

The sky tore open with an ear-piercing screech, and the air grew thick with malice. All activity stopped as a massive silhouette loomed overhead.

"A Menos Grande," Rukia whispered, her voice trembling.

Ichigo turned to her, his expression calm. "That's it? It's just... big."

Rukia gaped at him. "That's huge! You can't be serious!"

Ichigo ignored her, raising his Zanpakuto.

"Awaken, Zangetsu!"

The slim katana in his hand transformed, elongating into a sleek black cleaver. Its sheer size and weight would have been unwieldy to most, but Ichigo held it effortlessly.

He took a deep breath, his spiritual pressure rising to staggering levels. As the Menos prepared to fire its Cero, Ichigo grinned, calling out:

"Getsuga Jūjishō!"

With a mighty swing, a cross-shaped wave of energy erupted from his blade, splitting the Menos into four pieces. It let out a guttural roar before fading into dust.

From a nearby rooftop, Kisuke and Harry observed the spectacle. Kisuke fanned himself lazily, while Harry leaned against the railing with a satisfied grin.

"That's our boy!" they called out in unison, their voices dripping with pride.

Ichigo, still catching his breath, felt a shiver run down his spine. He glanced around but saw nothing out of place.

The Hollows defeated, Ichigo rejoined his friends at school. Orihime, Chad, Tatsuki, Keigo, and Mizuiro chatted excitedly about the strange events, their partial spiritual awareness giving them glimpses of what had happened.

"What was that light in the sky?" Orihime asked. "It was so pretty!"

Tatsuki punched Ichigo lightly on the shoulder. "You know something about this, don't you? Spill!"

Ichigo shrugged nonchalantly, expertly dodging their questions. "No idea what you're talking about."

That evening, Ichigo sat with Harry, Kisuke, and Isshin, recounting the day's events.

"So," Ichigo began, "what's the deal with that Menos Grande? Why'd it show up here?"

Harry exchanged a glance with Kisuke. "Aizen's watching, kid. That Menos was a test."

Ichigo sighed, rubbing his temples. "Great. Another headache."

Kisuke patted him on the back. "Cheer up! At least you've got us to help."

Ichigo groaned, already dreading the days ahead.

Renji adjusted the straps of his Zanpakuto, his jaw set in determination as he approached Byakuya Kuchiki in the sprawling gardens of the Kuchiki estate. The head of the Kuchiki clan stood statuesque, his icy demeanor unwavering as Renji gave a respectful bow.

"I'll handle this mission perfectly, Captain Kuchiki," Renji said, his voice resolute.

Byakuya didn't look up from the report in his hand. "See that you do. Failure will reflect poorly on the Sixth Division."

Renji stiffened, suppressing the urge to roll his eyes. "Understood, Captain."

Byakuya's gaze flicked to him briefly, the weight of his scrutiny enough to make Renji feel like a novice again. "Do not underestimate the situation. Ensure Rukia is brought back with minimal disruption."

Renji nodded, his fiery spirit brimming with confidence. "I won't let you down."

Byakuya gave the faintest inclination of his head before walking away, his scarf billowing behind him.

"Man, he's cold," Renji muttered under his breath.

Renji stepped into the Senkaimon, the gate swirling with spiritual energy. As the doors closed behind him, the oppressive atmosphere of the Dangai enveloped him. The Cleaner—a massive, roaring vortex—loomed in the distance, its presence unmistakable.

Renji's confident stride turned into a sprint as the Cleaner accelerated. "What the hell?! It's moving faster today!"

He dashed through the narrow passage, sweat trickling down his face as he shouted, "Why does this thing always target me?!"

The Cleaner's howling grew louder, its energy crackling ominously. Renji leapt over debris and slid under protruding spikes, his heart pounding in his chest.

"Stupid Cleaner! Get a hobby!"

As he reached the exit, he dove headfirst through the portal, narrowly avoiding being consumed by the relentless force.

Renji emerged from the portal with a triumphant grin—only to immediately plummet into a water fountain in the middle of a quiet park.

SPLASH!

Cold water soaked him from head to toe as he flailed to regain his footing.

"What the hell?!" he sputtered, spitting out a mouthful of water. Shivering, he dragged himself out of the fountain, his crimson hair plastered to his face.

A group of teenagers passing by burst into laughter. "Hey, nice dive, pineapple head!"

Renji glared at them, his teeth chattering. "Oh, you're lucky I'm on a mission!"

Meanwhile, Harry stood on the Kurosaki household's rooftop, his senses tingling as the gate's residual energy lingered in the air. He reached into his pocket, pulling out a sleek, modified communicator.

"Urahara," Harry said, his tone brisk. "You sensing this?"

From the other end, Urahara's voice came through, playful yet intrigued. "Ah, yes! That would be the signature of a Senkaimon. Fascinating."

Harry smirked. "Got any ideas on improving it? I've been tinkering with something that might let humans pass through safely."

Urahara's curiosity piqued. "Oh? Do share!"

Harry sent over the schematics via a data link. Urahara's voice grew giddy as he reviewed them.

"Oh, Harry, you've outdone yourself! With this, even a normal human could theoretically enter the Soul Society. Give me an hour, and I'll optimize it further."

"Make it quick," Harry replied. "I've got... other priorities."

As he ended the call, a mischievous grin spread across his face. With a flick of his wand, a small, enchanted drone flew off toward the park, capturing the perfect series of photos of Renji's fountain escapade.

Later that night, Yoruichi lounged in her cat form at Urahara's shop when a package appeared in front of her with Harry's familiar magical seal. She pawed it open and meowed in amusement at the photographs.

"Oh my, Renji. You've really outdone yourself this time."

Attached was a note from Harry:

"Exhibit A: Wet Pineapple Renji. Use as needed. You're welcome."

Yoruichi chuckled wickedly, already envisioning the ways she could deploy the blackmail.

Soaked and irritated, Renji finally found his way to the Kurosaki residence. He knocked on the door, his damp scarf drooping pitifully.

When the door opened, Harry stood there, an eyebrow raised and a knowing smirk on his face.

"Rough trip?" Harry asked, barely suppressing a laugh.

Renji glared at him, crossing his arms. "Not. A. Word."

From behind Harry, Isshin peeked out, bursting into laughter. "What's this? Did the mighty Lieutenant Renji Abarai take a swim on the way here?"

Masaki handed Renji a towel, her motherly instincts kicking in. "Oh, you poor thing. Come inside before you catch a cold."

As Renji entered, Harry leaned against the doorframe, muttering to himself, "This is going to be fun."

And thus, the stage was set for more antics, planning, and the subtle machinations of fate.
