Harry Potter: The Rise Of Malfoy

Chapter 78: Chapter 78 Reviewing the harvest

Chapter 78

The entire process of creating a horcrux is extremely harsh, and with each additional split of the soul, the difficulty increases linearly.

Most dark wizards can only split their soul once, which is already their limit.

As far as Soren knows, no wizard has been able to split their soul into more than two parts; even the well-known dark wizard "Herpo The foul," who was the first to research the method of creating Horcrux, could not achieve this.

This is because the process of splitting the soul is incredibly painful, and to create more than one Horcrux would subject the spellcaster to inhuman suffering that could drive them to madness.

In Soren's view, it is simply impossible for someone like Voldemort to repeatedly split his soul and successfully create multiple Horcrux.

Once the soul is separated, the next step is to choose a suitable Horcrux and infuse the soul into it. Although any object can be turned into a Horcrux, the best choices are usually indestructible magical alchemical items, which are then forcibly infused with the fragment of the soul using overwhelming power.

This means that even if a dark wizard is evil enough to split their soul, they still need to obtain an alchemical item that meets the qualifications for a Horcrux. Such high-grade alchemical items are core inheritances that various families treasure as life itself and are not easily obtainable. Not to mention that without sufficiently powerful support, it is impossible to allow the soul fragment to reside in the Horcrux.

The book emphasizes that dark wizards must properly protect their Horcrux. Damage to the Horcrux will affect the main soul, making the already extremely unstable main soul even more fragmented. The most direct consequence is that the dark wizard will lose their sanity and gradually go mad. However, their power will not be affected; on the contrary, as their soul descends into greater evil, they will become more adept at using dark magic.

Soren felt a sinking feeling in his heart; this was not good news.

So far, he has destroyed three Horcrux created by Voldemort: Tom's diary, Ravenclaw's diadem, and Slytherin's locket. Destroying Voldemort's Horcrux seems to bring him one step closer to death, but in reality, this does not effectively weaken Voldemort's physical power; instead, it makes him even more dangerous.

Following the section on Horcrux, "Revealing Advanced Dark Magic" introduces many other evil dark spells. For example, the evil curse "Kiss of the Dementor," which directly targets a person's soul based on research into the kiss of a Dementor, extracts the soul from the body, leaving the person in eternal damnation.

Further on, there are methods for creating Inferi, detailed introductions to the Imperius Curse, the Cruciatus Curse, and the Killing Curse, among others.

Soren is not currently interested in creating Inferi or the Unforgivable Curses because, like all underage wizards, he has been implanted with a trace by the Ministry of Magic.

The trace is not set on the wand as commonly depicted in fan-fiction from his previous life. Just think about it: if changing wands could solve the problem, Mad-Eye Moody would have already taken Harry out of the "Battle of Seven Harrys" using a Disillusionment Charm, avoiding all the trouble and ultimately losing a life and an ear.

As far as Soren knows, there is a mysterious alchemical item in the Ministry of Magic's Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, which has been passed down since Merlin's time. The original intention of its inventor was to use this item to identify children with awakened magical powers throughout the British Isles, hoping to rescue them early and prevent tragedies.

To this day, the role of this alchemical item has been replaced by Hogwarts' "Acceptance Pen" and "Book of Admission." The Ministry of Magic now uses it for another purpose—monitoring the spell-casting of underage wizards. The official reason given by the Ministry is to monitor whether underage wizards cast spells in front of Muggles, violating the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy. But in reality, all magic within the range of underage wizards can be detected, meaning that if Soren were to cast the Cruciatus Curse in the company of Lucius, it would be troublesome, as the Ministry would first suspect Lucius of breaking the law.

Of course, certain places, like Malfoy Manor, have heavy shielding magic, making it impossible to detect even with the trace. However, if he can only use these spells at Malfoy Manor, then what is the point of learning them?

What Soren lacks most right now is time, so he chooses to skip over these spells that won't be useful in the short term.

Another dark magic that truly piques Soren's interest from the book is the Taboo Curse.

In the original, Voldemort cast a taboo on his own name, successfully using this to hunt down many members of the Order of the Phoenix. This magic can place a tracking mark on any word, allowing the person who utters that word to be immediately tracked to their location. Clearly, this is a very practical tracking spell.

The original intention behind the invention of the taboo was to create an atmosphere of oppression and panic, thus it is categorized as dark magic. However, it is obviously not as conspicuous as the Cruciatus Curse or the Killing Curse; after all, this spell can only track, not directly harm, and is less likely to be noticed by the Department of Magical Law Enforcement for abuse.

Soren put down "Secrets of Advanced Dark Magic" and picked up another book, "Taboo Transfiguration."

This is a book that involves the taboo field of Transfiguration. The first page introduces many terrifying and irreversible Transfiguration spells, such as the ancient Greek witch Circe who liked to turn sailors who got lost at sea and accidentally wandered onto Aeaea Island into pigs; or the McLivor family on Dureya Island who turned all members of a rival family into bloodthirsty, crazed Quintapeds...

As Soren flipped further, he saw a familiar spell—Transmogrifies Torture. He had seen records of people killed by this spell in the research notes left to him by Lockhart.

This is a very insidious spell; if not for the existence of a counter-curse, it would be far more terrifying than the Cruciatus Curse and the Killing Curse. It can create sensations of pain and suffering through bodily transformation, such as pricking the fingertips, poking the eyeballs, or using a spiked clamp on the genitals.

The most terrifying part is not the pain itself, but the moment before the pain occurs, like the moment a sharp needle glints towards the pupil, or the feeling of a spiked clamp gently rubbing against the genitals... Not many people can withstand such psychological pressure.

Unlike the Cruciatus Curse, this dark magic can unleash its full power without the need for malicious intent because it is a form of Transfiguration, not a curse. The Transmogrifian Torture spell has only two requirements: first, a very high level of skill in Transfiguration, and second, a strong precise control over the mind.

Soren fully meets both conditions; this magic seems almost tailor-made for him.

Further on, there are spells like the "Aging Spell" that turns people into old women or old men, the "Four-Legged Beast Transformation Spell" that forces people to walk on all fours like beasts, and the "Corpse Transformation Spell" that turns people into hideously ugly, zombie-like creatures, among various other evil Transfiguration techniques.

These Transfiguration spells are not very practical aside from disgusting people, except perhaps for a few cruel and perverted wizards.

What truly interests Soren is the "Statue Transformation Spell," which can turn a person into a statue. The person transformed into a statue does not die or age, and can even retain their consciousness, perceiving their surroundings but unable to take any actions or movements.

This differs from the petrification effect caused by a Basilisk, which causes the entire body to stiffen and paralyse, losing the ability to move while also losing consciousness. The affected person shows no outward changes apart from being immobile, as if suffering from muscle rigidity.

The Statue Transformation Spell actually transforms the subject into a stone statue from the outside in; unless examined closely by a skilled wizard, most people would simply mistake it for a statue.

Interestingly, whether it is the petrification effect of a Basilisk or the Statue Transformation Spell, the way to break the effect is through the Mandrake Draught made from Mandrake roots.

In addition to these two books, Soren found another surprise in the Black family's dark magic book—it's actually "Abattoir Volume Three"!

The Black family's ancestral curse focuses on soul-related spells, which suggests that "The Abattoir Volume Three" must correspond to the domain of soul magic. The ancestors of the Black family obtained this fragment by chance, allowing them to create the core inheritance of the family; it is not an exaggeration to say that this fragment forms the foundation of the Black family's heritage.

In Soren's view, there are many overlaps between soul magic and mental magic, and when used correctly, they can completely complement each other, achieving an effect greater than the sum of their parts.

As mentioned earlier, there are two factors that affect the speed of magical power growth: mental strength and soul intensity.

Soren's mental strength has long reached its peak, and he eagerly flipped through this book, hoping to find inspiration to enhance his soul intensity.

["The Abattoir Volume Three" acquired!]

Soren has lost count of how many times he has marveled at his extraordinary luck.

He is far luckier than Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw spent his whole life only catching a glimpse of one volume of Abatar, having to die with regrets.

Soren has just turned 14 and has already collected the three volumes: the Mental Volume, the Soul Volume, and the Curse Volume. His future is still long ahead, and who knows, he might really fulfill Ravenclaw's wish and complete the entire collection of eight books.

Time flies to June 30th, and the young wizards boarded the Hogwarts Express.

On the train, in Soren's compartment, besides the usual trio, there was an additional Astoria.

"Brother Soren, I got first place this semester! Is there any reward? Hehe!" Since the last incident with Dingo when Astoria kissed Soren, she seemed to have let go of her girlish shyness and restraint. At this moment, she displayed a mischievous expression, cutely acting spoiled towards Soren.

A subtle glint flashed in Soren's eyes, but he revealed a gentle smile: "Tori, of course, there will be a reward. Don't worry, this summer I will definitely give you an unexpected surprise!"

Then, as if casually, he asked, "How did the others in your year perform?"

"Hmm…" Astoria tilted her head, thought for a moment, and replied: "The students from other houses in this year are also quite smart. In Slytherin, besides me, only the Carrow sisters performed decently. The elder sister, Hestia Carrow, ranked fifth, and the younger sister, Flora Carrow, ranked sixth."

The Carrow family? A thought flickered in Soren's eyes, elusive and inscrutable.

Then, Soren frowned, "Is that all for Slytherin's performance? That shouldn't be the case!"

Since he established his influence in Slytherin, the little snakes' style has changed significantly—united and helpful, valuing knowledge, respecting teachers. Moreover, Astoria had received a lot of academic guidance from Soren privately. Soren had instructed her to appropriately share his study notes with her classmates, which could help build solid friendships while also enhancing Slytherin's overall strength.

"Then—who are the second to fourth places?"

"The second place is Ravenclaw's Melinda Bobbin; she is quite proficient in Potions and Herbology, and I feel she has already far surpassed first-year level. Even second-year students may not be stronger than her. The third place is Gryffindor's Demirza Robbins; her spells, Transfiguration, and flying are all quite good. Professor McGonagall even said she has a lot of imagination! The fourth place is Hufflepuff's Joanna Devent; like other Hufflepuffs, she usually seems unremarkable, but unexpectedly shone brilliantly in the exams."

Soren suddenly noticed an interesting phenomenon: all the top six were girls! How could this be? Where did all the little wizards go?

"There's going to be a Quidditch World Cup this summer!" Daphne spoke up, "Didn't you promise my dad to come to my house? Shall we go watch the World Cup together? Dad can definitely get tickets."

"Yeah, yeah, Brother Soren, let's go together!" Astoria whined.

Soren turned to Meredith, who shrugged, "Ever since my parents passed away, it's just me and the house-elf at home. I've already promised Uncle Gareth that the Shafik family will become a vassal family of the gringrass, so perhaps we can continue the family's glory. I will spend this summer at the gringrass estate, and if you can come, we can go to the World Cup together."

Soren plans to use the early summer vacation to do his own things. He calculated the time and said, "Okay, let's do this! I'll come over to meet you a few days before the World Cup starts, and then we'll go watch the matches together!"
