Chapter 455: Chapter 455: Council's Debate
As Alaric had anticipated, the next day he officially presented himself as an envoy before the High Elven royal court.
If he had only been representing Lordaeron, he might have met with King Anasterian or perhaps a few of the lords within the Silvermoon Council.
However, Alaric's identity this time was anything but ordinary.
He represented the Alliance of Seven Human Kingdoms—a figure who could be seen as the spokesperson for the entire human race.
This elevated status demanded the elves' utmost attention.
The elves' usual arrogance toward human nations stemmed from their perception of humanity. To the elves, humans and elves were equals as species.
Yet, the kings of human nations believed they were equals with Quel'Thalas as a kingdom.
The High Elves couldn't comprehend humanity's fragmented nature, just as humans struggled to grasp the elves' racial unity.
Within the Sunstrider Royal Court, Alaric and his delegation paid their respects to the rulers and nobles of Quel'Thalas.
Without preamble, he outlined the formation of the Alliance and extended an invitation for the High Elves to join in the fight against the orcs.
Upon understanding humanity's request, the Silvermoon Council, presided over by King Anasterian, held an intense discussion.
The deliberation didn't last long, and a decision was soon reached.
It was King Anasterian himself who announced the council's resolution to Alaric.
The elderly king, with his long white hair and pale skin, exuded both kindness and dignity.
Despite his gentle demeanor, Alaric could sense the monarch's pride and authority in his tone and gaze.
"We regret to disappoint you, Archmage Leif," said Anasterian, his voice tinged with regret. "Quel'Thalas cannot accept the invitation to join the Alliance.
From your descriptions, the orcs indeed pose a formidable threat. However, they remain confined to the southern continent.
We do not believe their forces can threaten Quel'Thalas. Even if they were to reach our borders, our magical barriers alone could keep them at bay.
As the ruler of this land, I cannot needlessly involve my people in a conflict that does not concern us. I hope you can understand."
Although Alaric had anticipated such a response, hearing it still made him sigh inwardly: the High Elves were truly arrogant and insular.
Or rather, they were confident they could handle any problem on their own.
This confidence, which had made them powerful, would also lead to their decline.
Still, Alaric did not give up. He had long prepared for such an outcome.
"Your Majesty Anasterian, I understand your concerns. It is clear that you deeply care for your people, just as the rumors suggest." Alaric's tone was neither forceful nor desperate.
His demeanor remained calm, as if the rejection did not bother him in the slightest.
"However, I must ask: does the ancient alliance between the High Elves and the Kingdom of Arathor still hold?"
"Of course," Anasterian replied proudly. "The High Elves always honor their promises. We have never betrayed our allies.
However, this alliance was established with Emperor Thoradin himself.
As I understand it, after the fall of the Kingdom of Arathor, none of Thoradin's descendants remain on the thrones of your human nations.
Therefore, the High Elves have no obligation to uphold this alliance with an unrelated coalition."
"You are correct, Your Majesty. The Alliance cannot demand you honor the pact—that is humanity's failing," Alaric replied, which visibly pleased the elven king.
However, his next words turned that satisfaction into astonishment. "But I must inform you that Thoradin's lineage still exists.
Sir Anduin Lothar of Stormwind is his direct descendant, a fact you can verify yourselves.
Currently, the human Alliance has appointed him as its Supreme Commander to revive Thoradin's legacy and unite against the orcish threat."
"I see," Anasterian murmured, nodding thoughtfully. "If that is the case, then we High Elves must fulfill our promise."
The king's gaze shifted to his military leaders seated below.
Among them was Alleria Windrunner, and standing nearby, Alaric noticed another ranger who bore a striking resemblance to her.
Even among the strikingly beautiful High Elves, this ranger stood out as a rare beauty.
Like Alleria, she had waist-length golden hair that shimmered like waves under the sunlight.
However, her hair was paler, her eyes more gray than blue, and her demeanor even prouder and livelier than Alleria's.
Alaric immediately deduced her identity—the second of the Windrunner sisters, the legendary Sylvanas Windrunner.
Alaric fervently hoped his presence in this world could change her fate, sparing her from turning her golden locks black and her eyes blood-red.
As Alaric studied Sylvanas, she too observed him with keen interest.
Sylvanas had long been curious about Alaric. She wondered why her sister, who typically detested politics, would return to Silvermoon and involve herself just for the sake of this human.
In the past, Alleria had opposed allowing humans to join the Farstriders. Her current actions seemed like a complete reversal.
Seeing Alaric for the first time, Sylvanas instantly understood. She knew her sister too well.
This human was indeed unlike the others. He lacked the crudeness common among human men.
On the contrary, he was more refined and elegant than many elves, not to mention his youthful and strikingly handsome appearance.
"He's completely my sister's weakness," Sylvanas thought with a bitter smile. At the same time, she found herself intrigued by the young human.
In some ways, her taste wasn't too dissimilar from her sister's.
While Sylvanas pondered, Anasterian had already begun assigning tasks to the military leaders.
He ordered one of them to lead a few Farstrider squads as Quel'Thalas's token support for the Alliance.
Of course, since Quel'Thalas had not formally joined the Alliance, this so-called reinforcement was limited to about a hundred troops—a far cry from Quel'Thalas's full military strength.
This outcome mirrored the original story, but it was far from satisfactory for Alaric. He decided to reveal more of his hand—not just to bolster the Alliance but also to strengthen ties between humans and elves.
In the original timeline, humans allowed the High Elves to leave the Alliance and later pushed them into the Horde's arms when they became the Blood Elves. To Alaric, this was a foolish decision.
In this lifetime, having arrived in Azeroth, Alaric's identity and circumstances tied him firmly to the Alliance. Thus, he resolved to expand its influence while increasing his own.
Moreover, if he wanted the Windrunner sisters, he couldn't let the elves leave the Alliance.
As for the Horde? Let those misfits rot.
