Chapter 20: A Student’s Duty is to Take Exams
The next day, Tver unusually slept in, but luckily he didn't have any classes this morning.
Last night, after a childish yet clever duel of transfiguration, he ended up losing in the end.
Because Dumbledore shamelessly wielded the Elder Wand!
His original strength was already greater than Tver's, and now with the amplification of the wand, even his teacher couldn't withstand it.
Afterward, he and Dumbledore discussed until late into the night, returning to rest just as dawn was breaking.
But essentially it was Dumbledore teaching, and Tver learning from it.
Transfiguration is actually quite simple; students in their seventh year can generally master three techniques: the Transforming Charm, the Vanishing Charm, and the Summoning Charm.
Tver was very adept in this area.
But to use exceptionally brilliant transfiguration, achieving effects even more powerful than normal spells, further study is required.
For example, control of magic, allowing the transformed object to have greater flexibility;
For example, the magical properties of transfiguration, adding spells to the transformation to give the transformed object effects similar to spells.
...
And in these aspects, Dumbledore was even more formidable than his teacher.
Not saying you are not good, sir.
Tver modestly intervened before making his way to the Great Hall for breakfast.
At this time, there weren't many students in the Great Hall, but as soon as he entered, everyone's attention shifted to him.
Before long, curious young wizards crowded around him, asking about Durmstrang's situation.
"Durmstrang made it mandatory for students to have a crew cut, I wonder if Mr. Malfoy can bear it?"
"We have fur cloaks and blood-red robes, depending on the weather."
"Yes, most of the time the weather is cold, but some strong students choose not to wear cloaks."
"Here's a fun fact, Quidditch is an international sport, so we also have Quidditch teams, but they aren't divided by houses, instead, they're composed of several teams."
"Alright, questioning time is over, I still have classes to teach."
As class time approached, Tver was finally able to extricate himself from the throng of students.
It seemed that Professor Fawley was in the Great Hall, introducing everyone to Durmstrang, and almost all the students without classes had gathered around.
But he was happy to answer their questions, considering it a way to alleviate the fatigue from studying the previous night.
...
"I wonder when Professor Fawley will arrive."
"I heard he's currently surrounded by students in the Great Hall, he won't be late, will he?"
"But we arrived so early, won't we miss out on seeing the professor perform that magical roll call?"
"I couldn't care less about that, I've been practicing several spells specifically for a duel with Professor Fawley!"
The second-year students were excitedly discussing the upcoming lesson, filled with anticipation for the potential battles ahead.
After fermenting all day yesterday, they were eagerly looking forward to the afternoon class, hastily filling their stomachs at lunchtime and arriving at this classroom to wait.
"The professor is here!"
Someone exclaimed, and the classroom instantly quieted down as all eyes turned to the door.
Sure enough, a few seconds later, the dashing Tver strode in, carrying a paper bag in his hands.
He was somewhat surprised, surprised that the classroom was already filled with eagerly awaiting students.
Glancing back, he confirmed it was indeed his classroom before happily making his way to the lectern.
"To be honest, if the bell hadn't rung yet, I would have thought I was late."
The students chuckled, giving face to his jest.
But the roll call was an essential step. Tver waved his wand, and names appeared above each student's head amidst their gasps of amazement, the golden light merging into the list of students in his hand.
"Very good," he scanned the parchment, "I suppose no one has the audacity to skip my class."
Tver stowed away the parchment, meeting the expectant gazes below.
"Although you probably already know who I am, allow me to introduce myself. I, Tver Fawley, am your professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts, and indeed hail from Durmstrang, but I hope you won't discuss my alma mater during class, it's a rule of this course. As for your first lesson, I'm sure you all have a sense of what's coming."
Cheers erupted.
"But please note," Tver raised his voice, drowning out the cheers, "before engaging in combat, there's a less enjoyable step you need to take."
As he spoke, he waved his wand toward the paper bag, and the exam papers flew out one by one, landing precisely in front of each student.
"Test."
The students slumped in their seats, their faces filled with disappointment.
"Don't worry, the battle you desire will come after this. This test is to help me understand your situation in more detail."
Tver transfigured a giant hourglass for them, making it easier to keep track of time.
"The test will last for half an hour. You don't need to feel too pressured; just write down what you know. Even if you don't know, I can teach you throughout this year."
The hourglass was flipped, and the countdown began. Everyone immediately immersed themselves in the test.
Meanwhile, Tver moved behind them, attempting the transfiguration techniques he had learned the previous day.
The test questions were based on last year's textbook, with additional knowledge summaries added by Tver. He noticed from yesterday's class that the previous teachers had mostly covered the textbook, but how much the students learned varied.
Combat only provided insight into one aspect and was not comprehensive enough. So, he deliberately created a test to gauge how much they had learned in Defence Against the Dark Arts.
Half an hour quickly passed; after all, the test wasn't difficult. Those who knew the material had finished early, while those who didn't scratched their heads in frustration.
After collecting the papers with a wave of his wand, Tver said the words everyone had been waiting to hear.
"Combat. I know you've been looking forward to this, so stand up, and don't forget to grab your wands!"
Excitedly, the students packed away their textbooks and grabbed their wands as they moved to the back of the room.
To their astonishment, there were suddenly three Professor Fawleys in the room.
Triple the fun?
Once they were all in position, Tver explained to them.
"After yesterday's lesson, I realized that you all still have a lot of room for improvement. If I were to be your opponent, you wouldn't be able to unleash your full potential."
Pointing his wand at the other two identical "him," they immediately sprung to life, assuming combat stances.
"You will be divided into two teams, each protecting one of me, and then you'll try to defeat the other me as much as possible!"
