Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Revelations
POV Grace Potter, just after they split away from Hagrid, Daphne and Erik.
"How have you been recently?" Harry said glancing towards me as we walked along the path. He seemed to be worried about something but I couldn't place why, "I am good. Classes have been alright but the Homework is a bit of a pain. Nothing else has happened since we last spoke, what about you?
Harry took a moment to think before responding, "I have been having a lot of fun. Ron's brothers have been versing me in a prank war since they found out Dad was someone they looked up to. So what did you lot do to get into trouble?" I thought about whether I should tell him about the dragon and decided to share, "Hagrid had gotten his hands on a dragon egg and had decided in his infinite wisdom to hatch it"
I told the boys how we had gone to visit Hagrid on my suggestion and caught him heating the egg, I then told them how I had scolded him. "So that's why you wanted to speak with my brother?" Ron asked before stepping into a tiny pool of silver blood he had missed and slipped onto his ass.
Harry helped his mate up onto his feet after having a good chuckle at his expense, "So you're saying that you got caught along with Hagrid as he tried to raise a dragon?" Harry asked after checking to see if Ron was fine. I shook my head since I was interrupted by Ron's fall, "No, we successfully raised the dragon until it could be transported and managed to sneak it to the astronomy tower but were caught by Professor Snape when we reached the common room."
"Look, the trail of blood splats seems to be getting more frequent," Ron said while pointing towards the next set of splatters as well as a large diagonal spray covering a tree trunk. "Looks like the unicorn has lost a lot of blood we should hurry," I said while quickening my pace while the boys nodded and did the same.
We walked down the path keeping an eye out for movement, that was until we heard a whine in the clearing nearby. We ran towards the clearing to find a black mass crawling along the ground, heading to the body of a unicorn which was bleeding from its neck. Harry reacted first and shot a stunning charm towards the black mass which caused it to recoil out of the way of the spell.
The mass stood and turned towards us as it did so both Harry and Ron shot another volley of spells at it. Those spells were dealt with easily as the thing batted them to the side with his off-hand, following that powerful display he threw two spell chains at the boys. The boys nimbly dodged the first two spells but were still hit with the 3rd spell causing the loud sound of breaking bone to fill the air, their shrill screams of pain grated at my ears while being harmonised by a haunting laugh.
My body stiffened as it remembered this laugh from my deep subconscious memories started to stir as I lifted my wand ready to cast a spell. I launched a quick combo of spells Mum had taught me before dodging into the tree line behind me, my spells were ineffectual as he did the same he did to the boy's spells and batted them away without any trouble.
I took the quick reprieve my new cover provided for me to glance towards the downed bodied of Harry and Ron to see them passed out due to the pain of their bones breaking. I knew nothing I would be able to cast would make the thing do anything but laugh so my mind drifted back to what Hagrid had told us earlier.
I threw my wand arm into the air before casting the signalling spell, it was at this point as my spell flew into the air a black-gloved hand grasped my throat before a piercing scream rang through the air and I was thrown at the tree.
From the darkness my memories swam towards my eyes, I could see what was just out of reach in my subconscious. I saw the faces of my grandparents who smiled at Harry and me in our crib, I saw the day darken and wane as they played with the both of us. However, I also saw how I was woken by an explosion before hearing the shouting of my grandfather followed by the rushed footfalls of my grandma towards us.
The memory grew patchy and shadowed as a high-pitched laugh echoed through the stairs before being abruptly broken by a blinding green light. When the dream broke I sat up sharply in the bed I was in, looking around at the white walls and sterile environment that denoted the Hospital wing of the school.
"What happened?" My voice croaked out to no one in particular expecting no answer but was shocked when the matron answered from nearby, "You were attacked in the forest and left with a concussion. You were bleeding but that was sorted out."
She moved over to the table next to me where a large black bottle was sitting before pouring a measured portion into a glass and handing it to me, "Drink. It will help with the headache. It is currently 2 am and you will be staying in here until tomorrow afternoon to make sure you have no other injuries. Your brother and Mr Weasley shall be here along with you as they are similarly under watch since their wounds were infected with dark magic." When she finished her face flashed with disgust at the mention of dark magic before turning and walking back to her office area.
