Chapter 12: Scabbers and Mouse Tonic
For Kyle, who used to travel by plane and train, riding an old-fashioned steam train like the Hogwarts Express was simply torture.
Especially after you sit for a few hours, the novelty of Hogwarts gradually wears off. Its shortcomings will be infinitely magnified.
First of all, it is slow. It is really too slow. Kyle feels this train can only reach eighty at most, which is not even as good as some cars with better performance.
Moreover, the comfort level was also very poor. It was so shaky that Kyle was so shaken he almost spit out his breakfast.
In this situation, passing the time by reading is impossible.
Fortunately, Cedric, who was in the same carriage with him, was very talkative, so this trip was not too bad.
After talking about the Professor, Kyle asked some other questions. Cedric also knew everything and took the initiative to share some interesting places in Hogwarts, such as interesting portraits.
There were many things Kyle didn't know about, which made him very interested. In return, Kyle waved his hand and offered Cedric snacks along the way.
There are plenty of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, Chocolate Frogs, and Cauldron Cake.
Only one thing left Kyle speechless. Cedric continued the wizards' bad taste as expected and did not tell the truth.
"You have to catch the Golden Snitch in the Great Hall within ten minutes to be sorted?"
Kyle twitched his lips politely and did not answer.
Come on, Quidditch is at least more reliable than Dragon, and that's very Cedric.
"By the way Kyle, have you ever thought about which House you will be assigned to?" Cedric threw a multi-flavor bean into his mouth and said. "It would be great if you could be admitted to Hufflepuff. Still you, a smart little wizard, probably want to go to Ravenclaw."
Before he finished speaking, the corners of Cedric's mouth twitched sharply, and his whole face wrinkled up unconsciously, looking extremely funny.
"Oh damn, it's the beef liver smell I hate the most."
Although he said this, Cedric still swallowed it hard.
"I have thought about it, but I don't necessarily have to go to which Houses." Kyle also picked up Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans. "And my ability to catch the Golden Snitch is average. I may not be able to catch the Golden Snitch in ten minutes."
Hmm... it's the new black pepper steak flavor, which is pretty good.
"Don't worry, you can definitely do it." Cedric laughed and said, "It's not that difficult."
Just as he was talking, the carriage door was suddenly opened from the outside.
Kyle and Cedric turned their heads at the same time.
A familiar redhead, but instead of a twin, it was another Weasley.
Percy walked into the carriage and said. "Kyle, Fred told me you were here...oh, you are Cedric Diggory, I am Percy Weasley, nice to meet you."
Cedric, who was still curious, suddenly heard his name and nodded quickly in response. "Me too, nice to meet you, Percy Weasley."
The other party's serious look made Cedric think he was on some formal occasion rather than the Hogwarts Express.
All in all, he looked confused but very polite.
Kyle suppressed his laughter and waited until they finished their greetings before saying. "Percy, what do you want from me?"
He is familiar with all seven Weasley children, and Percy is no exception. Still, they usually communicate less with each other.
"I'm sorry to bother you, but I do have something going on." Percy put his hand into his pocket and pulled out a big mouse.
"Scabbers hasn't been feeling energetic lately, so I just wanted to ask you if you still have the Mouse Tonic that you fed him before. I'd like to buy some if possible. "
"Mouse tonic?"
Kyle looked at the gray Mouse in Percy's hand, which was missing a front paw, narrowed his eyes and smiled. "Of course it is, just wait a moment."
After saying that, Kyle found a bottle filled with red liquid from his Suitcase, turned around and stuffed it into Percy's hand.
"You know, three drops once a week, the amount here should last you a long time."
"Thank you." Percy quickly took the bottle of red Mouse Tonic, then hesitantly took out three Sickle and blushed, "I know this may not be enough, but that's all I have now. I will pay you back the rest as soon as possible."
"There's no need for so many." Kyle only took one Sickle, and he pushed back the remaining two. "It's just a rat tonic, not a good thing. It's not that expensive. One Sickle is enough." "
Percy looked at Scabbers in his hand, and his face looked brooding. After a long time, he sighed softly and said. "Thank you, Kyle."
Kyle said. "No, I collect money, normal transaction."
"No, I know everything."
Percy also smiled, but it was just a bitter smile. "If it was an ordinary Mouse Tonic, how could it make Scabbers live for eleven years? This should be made by Mr. Scamander. After all, only that kind of legendary figure can make Scabbers live for eleven years."
"How long does a common field mouse live? If this kind of tonic were on the market, it would probably cost at least ten Galleons. "
Kyle rubbed his forehead. He actually wanted to tell Percy.
Scabbers's ability to live so long has nothing to do with the Mouse Tonic. In addition, this is indeed his own work and is not worth ten Galleons.
But Peter Pettigrew was too troublesome. Kyle was only eleven years old and didn't want to attract Dumbledore's attention.
However, he did not do nothing.
In addition to the Mouse Tonic, he had told Percy long ago that Mouse differed from other pets. If they were stained with too much wizard's smell, their kind would reject him.
At first, Percy was still skeptical, but after Kyle covered this sentence with the banner of Scamander, he believed it and regarded it as a classic.
Percy really cared about his only pet.
Not only did he make a special nest for Scabbers in the room, but he also had less physical contact with him in normal times. Except for special situations like now, when he had to carry him with him, he basically let him roam freely at other times.
On the other side, seeing that Kyle had not responded, Percy did not plan to stay any longer.
"Anyway, thank you, Kyle. If you have any academic questions in the future, you can come and ask me, and after graduation, I will also give you these Galleons."
After that, Percy hurriedly left the carriage, leaving Kyle and Cedric staring at each other.
Finally, it was Cedric who broke the deadlock first. "Um... can you get Mouse Tonic from Mr. Scamander?"
"I can make it, not just Mouse Tonic, but basically all pet tonics." Kyle was too lazy to explain so much, shrugged and said. "It's not that difficult, it's just a little troublesome, so few people will go out of their way to learn it."
