Chapter 19: Chapter 19: the Forgotten
The days following the sealing of the Veiled Hollow were marked by an uneasy calm. Hogwarts Castle, once again bathed in the golden light of autumn, seemed to exhale a collective sigh of relief. Yet, beneath the surface, a subtle tension lingered, as if the very walls sensed the darkness that had been kept at bay.
Arlen Blackthorn stood at the edge of the Forbidden Forest, his gaze fixed on the now dormant archway of the Veiled Hollow. The events of the past weeks played over in his mind—the confrontation with the dark figure, the merging of the Codex and the Orb, and the sealing of the portal. Despite the victory, a gnawing unease settled in his chest. He couldn't shake the feeling that the battle was far from over.
"Thinking about the Hollow?" Hermione Granger's voice broke through his thoughts. She approached, her expression thoughtful. "I understand. It's hard to believe it's over."
Arlen nodded, his eyes still fixed on the clearing. "It doesn't feel over. There's something we're missing."
Hermione joined him, her gaze following his. "Perhaps. But we've done what we can. For now, we need to focus on our studies and prepare for the upcoming exams."
Arlen turned to face her, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "Always the scholar, Hermione."
She chuckled softly. "Someone has to keep you grounded."
As they walked back toward the castle, Fred and George Weasley approached, their faces alight with mischief. "Oi, Arlen!" Fred called. "Fancy a bit of fun?"
George grinned. "We were thinking of testing out some new products in the Forbidden Forest. What do you say?"
Arlen raised an eyebrow. "The Forbidden Forest? After everything that's happened?"
Fred shrugged. "It's the perfect place for a bit of experimentation. What could possibly go wrong?"
George added, "Besides, it's not like we haven't faced worse."
Arlen chuckled. "You two are incorrigible."
Hermione shook her head. "I swear, you two are a bad influence on him."
Fred winked. "We prefer to think of it as broadening his horizons."
George nodded. "Exactly. Expanding his experiences."
Arlen laughed. "Alright, alright. Lead the way."
The four friends made their way to the edge of the Forbidden Forest, where Fred and George unveiled a collection of their latest inventions. There were fireworks that shot up and exploded into dazzling displays, smoke bombs that created swirling mists, and enchanted creatures that scurried about, adding to the chaos.
As they reveled in their antics, a sudden chill swept through the forest. The leaves rustled, and the ground trembled slightly. Arlen's smile faded as he felt a familiar, unsettling presence.
"Did you feel that?" he asked, his voice tense.
Hermione nodded, her brow furrowed. "Something's not right."
Fred and George exchanged a glance. "Maybe it's just the wind," Fred suggested, though his voice lacked conviction.
George added, "Or a wild animal."
But Arlen wasn't convinced. He stepped forward, his hand instinctively reaching for his wand. "Stay close," he murmured.
The group ventured deeper into the forest, the playful atmosphere replaced by a palpable sense of unease. The trees seemed to close in around them, their branches creaking and groaning as if whispering secrets.
Suddenly, a shadow darted between the trees, too quick to be seen clearly. Arlen's heart raced. "Did you see that?"
Hermione nodded, her face pale. "We need to get out of here."
But before they could turn back, a figure emerged from the shadows—a tall, cloaked figure with glowing red eyes. The air grew colder, and a low, menacing laugh echoed through the forest.
"Did you really think you could seal the portal and be done with it?" the figure sneered. "The Shadow Realm's influence is far-reaching. You cannot escape it so easily."
Arlen stepped forward, his wand raised. "Who are you?"
The figure chuckled darkly. "I am the one who was cast aside, the one who was forgotten. But I have returned, and this time, I will not be so easily defeated."
The ground beneath them began to crack, and tendrils of dark energy emerged, swirling around the group. Arlen's heart pounded as he realized the battle was far from over. The true test of their strength and unity was just beginning.
"Stay together," he commanded, his voice steady despite the fear coursing through him. "We can do this. Together."
The four friends stood firm, their wands raised, ready to face the darkness once more.
