Chapter 52: Chapter -52 Onslaught of fiery beasts.
Chapter -52..
Like a lightning bolt, frightening flames erupted through the entire office of the Incident Reversal Team, catching everyone completely off guard. In an instant, the office transformed into a fiery wasteland, a playground for fire monsters. Various magical beings made of fire rampaged through space, consuming everything in their path.
As Bernard stared at the colossal fire giant towering a few meters high, its head poised to break through the ceiling, his face turned ashen.
It was common knowledge that the Protego Diabolica wasn't one of the three Unforgivable Curses because it had a few counter-curses. However, with the situation growing more dire, Lester clearly wouldn't give Bernard a moment to cast any counter-spells!
"What a lunatic!" Bernard felt an overwhelming sense of dread in his chest, but he couldn't afford to hesitate. Faced with the raging flames, he found himself torn between two choices: risk exposing his dark magic to defeat the monster or focus all his energy on extinguishing the fire while repelling the monster's attacks.
At that moment, Bernard had never been more eager for Dumbledore's arrival. Though he usually held a scornful view of the powerful wizard who often seemed above everyone else, he now felt the wizarding world really needed him to swoop in and save the day. "Just hold him off! Once Dumbledore gets here, he'll surely be able to handle this madman!"
Deciding to tackle the fire first before confronting the monster, Bernard reminded himself that he didn't need to lower himself to scuffle with something he deemed beneath him. As a senior official in the Ministry of Magic—a position higher than thousands—how could he jeopardize everything against a mere monster?
"Accio, wand!" In a swirl of black mist, he extended his palm to the side and recited the summoning spell. Soon enough, a new silver-white wand zoomed toward him from the ground, landing smoothly in his grasp. Even though his previous wand had shattered under Lester's ferocious flames, who said a wizard could only possess one wand?
With his stature in the world, it was unthinkable for Bernard not to have a backup! Gripping his new wand with his right hand, he fiercely swung his left hand, filled with black mist, at Lester.
Boom!
A ripping sound echoed as a massive black mist knife shot toward Lester. At the same time, Bernard plunged his wand into an untouched area of the ground and shouted, "Finite Incantatem!"
This was the counter-curse perhaps capable of suppressing the Protego Diabolica, and he aimed to bring an end to the rampant curses swirling around.
Seeing Bernard attempt to use the counter-curse to extinguish his flames, Lester immediately sprang into action to thwart him.
But just as Lester took a few steps, he noticed the terrifying black mist knife flying toward him.
"Protego Diabolica!"
As the black mist knife neared to slice him in half, Lester quickly raised an almost unused wand. He swiftly brought it to his mouth, conjuring blazing flames that erupted above the wand's tip.
"Whoosh!"
With a mighty blow, Lester sent the flames spiraling from the tip of the wand, transforming them into a fierce fire creature that charged straight at the black mist knife.
For reasons unknown, all the wizards watching the duel felt a jolt at that moment, their eyes widening; this trick was something fierce! If Lester could have read their thoughts, he would have smiled knowingly.
How could it not be fierce? This was a technique that, Voldemort, would use later on; right now, Lester was the true original master of this phenomenon.
"Roar!!!"
With a thunderous roar, the fire dragon collided with the black mist knife, causing a powerful tremor throughout the underground level three.
"Whoosh!!!!"
Bernard's black mist knife could only be utilized once now; he had to concentrate on controlling the flames. Lester, on the other hand, was in blow mode, exhaling ferociously at the flames atop his wand.
"Burn his backside, and his too; it's plump!!!"
At that moment, Lester felt like a circus acrobat, performing a fire-breathing act, fiercely puffing at the flames.
The relentless flames burst forth from the wand, fueling the dragon-like creature. With Lester continuously channeling his magic and flames, the dragon-like being suddenly whipped its tail, producing a loud crack as the black mist knife dissolved into the air.
"Roar!!!"
Once the black mist knife was eliminated, the dragon-like creature immediately shifted its focus at Lester's command, charging straight for Bernard, who was still engaged in casting spells to regain control.
"You lunatic!" Bernard exclaimed, desperately dodging the fire creature's charge.
"Apparition!"
With barely a moment to spare, Bernard used Apparition again, narrowly escaping the fiery onslaught, leaving the staff still stuck in the ground behind him.
However, while Bernard evaded the attack, the protective barrier of "Finite incantatem" he'd established behind him was not so lucky. It had shown signs of stabilization under Bernard's command, but with Lester's interference, all of that evaporated.
Without the supply of magical energy, even with the staff still grounded, "Finite incantatem" was unable to be cast.
The barrier of "Finite Incantatem," already wavering due to dwindling magic and the onslaught from fire monsters, shattered in an instant when confronted by the dragon-like creature released by Lester. It couldn't withstand even a moment!
With the collapse of the barrier, a host of terrifying creatures emerged before everyone.
As these monstrous fire beings materialized, fear paralyzed the onlookers. Whether it was the frenzied prisoners or the purebloods who prided themselves on superiority, the sight of these fierce creatures radiating a sense of deadly intent made them all instinctively flee!
Watching the unleashed beasts attack indiscriminately around them, everyone fell into an eerie silence, waiting for their turn in impending doom.
