Harry Potter: Becoming a Study God

Chapter 138: Chapter 138: The Marauder’s Map

The Weasley twins snuck into the Forbidden Forest, hoping to get up close and personal with a dragon.

According to them, they wanted to collect some dragon scales that had fallen off, or even dragon dung would do.

However, they were caught by Hagrid, who was furious and punished them by making them clean out the pigsty for two weeks straight.

"Cleaning up pig dung, scrubbing the pens, and even giving the piglets a bath…"

Fred laughed and said, "That's what we'll be doing for the next two weeks."

"Percy was furious and said we've disgraced the Weasley name."

As George spoke, he hosed down the floor and even gave a little piglet a quick rinse.

Fred asked, "Wade, what brings you here to find us?"

"Remember last term, when you told me about the secret passage out of Hogwarts?" Wade asked.

"Of course!" Fred said. "Don't tell me you're only now putting it to use."

"Yeah, I left the school a few days ago. The passage is even longer than I'd imagined."

"Hogsmeade is interesting, isn't it?" Fred leaned on his shovel with both hands, rested his chin on the wooden handle, and then blinked. "You didn't get caught by Flume, did you?"

"Flume?"

"The owner of Honeydukes," George explained.

"Oh, no, I didn't," Wade said. "But there's something that's been puzzling me…"

He looked at the twins and said, "You mentioned seeing me come out of the corridor where the mirror is, and then we ran into each other in front of Paracelsus's portrait…"

"Huh? Did we?" Fred couldn't quite remember and scratched his head. "Probably, yeah."

"But I double-checked when I left the corridor with the mirror; there were no other students around."

Wade continued, "Later, someone told me that at that time, you two should've just come out from the Gryffindor common room."

The person who told him, of course, was Zoe.

There isn't much in this castle that house-elves and the omnipresent portraits don't know about.

"Hmm…" George tilted his head and asked, "So?"

"You two must have some kind of magical item that shows everyone's location, right? Something like a piece of parchment?"

Wade sincerely asked, "Could I borrow it to study the alchemy on it? I promise not to damage it! I'll even pay a Galleon a day as rental. How about it?"

"A Galleon? That's not a cheap price!" Fred remarked, then shook his head. "But no."

Wade paused, then raised the offer: "Alright… two Galleons?"

"It's not about the money," Fred said solemnly. "The Marauder's Map is a precious gift passed down from our predecessors to future generations…"

George nodded in agreement, adding, "We owe them so much… How could we possibly use it to make money?"

"You can study the Marauder's Map for free," Fred said firmly, "but there's a condition…"

"Don't let anyone else see it, especially the professors and Filch…"

"And… we also need to follow in the spirit of our predecessors and help a new generation of rule-breakers…"

The twins burst into laughter.

Then Fred pulled out a square piece of parchment. It looked very old and was completely blank.

"We stole this from Filch's office. He had it locked in a drawer labeled Confiscated and Highly Dangerous."

George added, "Filch has taught us more than all the teachers in the school combined."

"Remember the incantation." Fred took out his wand, touched the parchment lightly, and said, "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good!"

Thin lines of ink spread across the parchment like a spider web, and a few lines of green text began to appear—

[Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs]

[Purveyors of Aids to Magical Mischief-Makers]

[are proud to present]

[THE MARAUDER'S MAP]

In no time, the parchment transformed into a complete map of Hogwarts, down to each corridor and every room.

Tiny black dots moved across the map, with small letters forming names beside each one.

The letters were much smaller than they appeared in the movies.

In busy areas like the Great Hall, common rooms, and classrooms, it looked like a swarm of ants clustered together, making it nearly impossible to make out individual names.

However, the Weasley twins weren't concerned with the students in crowded places. They were mostly interested in tracking where the professors and Filch were patrolling during their night escapades.

"When you're done, just tap it lightly and say, 'Mischief managed,' and it will return to being a blank piece of parchment," George explained.

Wade looked at the twins and noticed their slightly goofy smiles, as if they had no idea just how valuable the item they had just handed over really was.

Wade folded up the parchment and smiled. "Would you mind if I invited you both to join in the research? I remember you two are also studying alchemy?"

At this, the Weasley twins perked up. "Of course! But the magic on the Marauder's Map is very complicated!"

"We've been working on some prank candies lately, though… they're a bit too potent…"

George hadn't finished his sentence when Hagrid's voice came from nearby: "Hey, I hope you've finished cleaning the pigsty while you're chatting!"

The twins stuck out their tongues and quickly got back to scrubbing the pigsty.

"Wade, don't go picking up their habits and treat your life as if it's just a game," Hagrid said as he approached, carrying a huge bucket of feed. He gently nudged the piglets gathered around the trough before pouring in the feed.

Wade asked him, "Is the dragon in the Forbidden Forest safe?"

"No worries. None of the creatures in the forest can harm Norberta."

Hagrid spoke affectionately, "Luckily, Dumbledore allowed her to stay… To Norberta, humans are by far the most dangerous creatures in the world… Her original habitat was swarming with people…"

As he spoke, Hagrid lifted a few larger piglets, inspected them, and placed them in the adjacent pigpen.

"So… she won't harm the animals in the Forbidden Forest?" Wade asked.

"Dumbledore reached an agreement with the centaur tribe," Hagrid replied. "Norberta also lives quite far away. She's promised not to hunt near the school and won't harm any intelligent creatures. She really is a good girl, don't you think?"

Wade looked at the burn scars on Hagrid's arm and couldn't bring himself to nod in agreement.

Hagrid offered, "How about coming by my hut for a cup of tea? I just made some rock cakes."

"No, but thank you," Wade declined politely. "I've got homework to finish."

After saying goodbye to Hagrid and the Weasley twins, Wade returned to the Room of Requirement. The first thing he did was spread out the Marauder's Map and look towards the Gryffindor common room.

As expected, there was an extra name there—

Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail)

One of the Marauders, a former friend of James Potter and Lupin, and the true traitor all those years ago.
