Chapter 260: Chapter 260: Clash of Battle
The sky was dark and oppressive, as if the stars could be plucked by an outstretched hand. In the space around them, dark elements had overtaken all others, saturating the atmosphere. High above, streams of black star-like clusters floated slowly, settling into the horizon.
"If it's a fight you want, then let it be a fight. What's the need for all this pretense?" Thor's lips curled into a faint, disdainful smile. His deep blue eyes, as vast as the ocean, flickered with streaks of lightning. The energy emanating from the opposing demon forces glimmered in his gaze, especially the demon general standing at the center—a radiant focal point of power. Beneath the demon's slender frame, torrents of dark energy surged and solidified. Nearby, the demon sorcerer leaned lightly on his staff outside the altar, the black flames beneath his crimson robe blazing ominously.
"I'll handle the demon general and the goat demons. You take care of the rest. Fair division, wouldn't you say?" Thor said quietly to Loki, standing beside him.
"Oh?" Loki smiled faintly. "It does seem like I'm getting the short end of the stick. But that demon general doesn't look like an easy opponent. Are you sure?"
"Stop with the chatter," Thor said, shaking his head. From within his sea-blue robe, he drew his wand and pointed it directly at the demon general in the center. His eyes shone with an icy blue bolt of lightning. "Come and meet your end."
With a deafening roar, a massive thunderbolt split the air, streaking toward the demon general.
A pale finger rose and pressed against the air. The ferocious lightning dissipated, unraveling as if submerged in invisible water. "A lightning affinity, I see," the demon general mused with a faintly amused smile. "No wonder you've reached the level of a mid-tier mage at such a young age. A physique so attuned to lightning magic is truly rare. Here's a proposal: join us. In the name of Lord Mammon, I offer you pardon. And should Lord Agares hear of your talents, eternal life and ascension to legend might not be out of reach. What do you say? My time is limited, so decide quickly."
Thor's handsome face remained calm, though his black wand began to crackle with strands of fire and lightning. "You talk too much. I suggest you go back to Hell and transfer to the Demon Hospitality Department. The battlefield doesn't suit you."
"Stars of the firmament, core of thunder, converge in the binding force of elemental contracts! Lightning elements of the astral plane, heed my will through this plane! Descend!"
With a deft flick of his wand, Thor summoned a four-point star array. The sky ignited with dazzling streaks of lightning, and with a tremendous roar, ten colossal lightning elementals materialized from the void and entered the battlefield.
All eyes turned to the towering figures. Cloaked in crackling plasma, these giants moved with thunderous steps, leaving scorched ground in their wake. Their sheer presence and the sound of their movements lifted the spirits of the group.
Ron, emboldened, raised his chin and drew his wand with exaggerated confidence, clearly eager to try his new elemental spell.
"Truly a testament to your lightning affinity," the demon general remarked, his gaze lingering appreciatively on Thor. "To summon this many elementals at mid-tier strength—my offer still stands."
"Thor, dear student," Lilian interjected with a teasing tone, "seeing how much they value you, maybe you should oblige them."
Thor gave her a wry smile and raised his wand toward the central battlefield. "Thunder Fortress, Celestial Order! By the power of Northern Star elements, I command the lightning realm to purify and vanquish!"
A deep blue seven-star array slowly formed in midair. Blinding currents of electricity descended, creating a massive web of lightning that ensnared the demon general. Within this electrified cage, lightning orbs and bolts crisscrossed, pressing in from all directions.
The demon general's expression darkened slightly. Wisps of dark energy seeped from his form as he calmly slipped on white military gloves. Drawing a slender rapier from his waist, he turned to his forces and gave a simple command: "Attack."
With a blood-red glint in their eyes, the demon army launched their assault, led by a charging formation of minotaurs. The ten lightning elementals roared to life, their glowing eyes sparking with power as they marched forth with synchronized, thunderous steps.
Loki's amber eyes narrowed slightly. The darkened sky above began to fill with snowflakes. Delicate and pure, the flakes drifted downward, silently blanketing the battlefield.
Pointing his wand, Loki murmured, "Spirits of snow born under the aurora, freeze and bind the world in frost! By the covenant of ice, descend!"
The snow swirled into vortexes, coalescing into medium-sized snow elementals that resembled snowmen. There were roughly thirty of them, standing in still formation. Loki directed his wand toward the heart of the storm, where a large snowflake gently landed on the metallic ground. The seemingly ordinary snowflake acted as a catalyst, activating the elementals. Their eyes glowed with a brilliant white light as they floated silently, focusing on the approaching minotaurs.
Inside the lightning cage, the demon general parried the lightning strikes with his rapier. His dark eyes flickered with caution. He hadn't expected the second mid-tier mage to be just as formidable. It seemed the treant elder had played a clever hand by betting on this group of humans.
The battlefield was chaotic. Lightning elementals struck the goat demons with plasma-infused punches, their attacks illuminating the scene with blinding flashes. The minotaurs charged into the fray, their massive axes meeting the icy blows of snow elementals. Blizzards erupted as ice shards struck and froze their hulking bodies.
Meanwhile, the scythe demons attempted to flank the battlefield, targeting the mage apprentices in the rear. Yet even the apprentices proved unexpectedly effective. Their spells, while rudimentary, frequently caused delays in the movements of the minotaurs and goat demons. These brief moments of hesitation were enough for the elementals to exploit, leading to decisive victories.
To the demons' dismay, some of the apprentices' spells even disarmed them. Axes and scythes were forcibly stripped from their wielders, further tipping the scales of battle.
