Haikyuu - I Am A Different Hinata!

Chapter 25: Chapter 25 -Karasuno's Guardian Deity

"Hey, you're really tall and seem pretty good too! So you're one of our first-years," said Nishinoya, standing beside him.

"Oh, you must be the genius libero I've heard about!" Hinata said with a smile.

"Genius?!" Nishinoya exclaimed as he heard the gym door open, followed by some volleyball club members entering.

"Hey! Noya, you're here!" Tanaka said excitedly.

"Hey, Ryuu!" Nishinoya cheerfully greeted the rest of the members.

"Alright, let me introduce... This is Yu Nishinoya, second year!" said Daichi.

"Hey, this first-year called me a genius! He seems to know what he's talking about!" Nishinoya said.

"Huh? Has Hinata started flattering you already?" Tanaka said while looking at Hinata with his threatening face.

"Looks like you haven't learned your lesson from yesterday's fencing match. Want a rematch?" Hinata said while getting into position with an imaginary sword.

Then, Nishinoya walked past them and went to Kageyama, who was standing a bit behind.

"Hey, you with the evil look who was serving before... which school did you come from?" Nishinoya asked while pointing his index finger at Kageyama.

"Kitagawa Daiichi," Kageyama answered.

"Seriously? Wait, that's right! I remember playing against you and your team. We lost 2-1, and your serve was already incredible," Nishinoya said energetically.

"...and which school were you at before high school?" Kageyama asked.

"I was at Chidoriyama," he said proudly.

"That's a strong school... why did you come to Karasuno?"

"I came... I came for the uniforms!" said Nishinoya.

"What?" Kageyama said, confused by the answer.

"THE GIRLS' UNIFORMS ARE ON ANOTHER LEVEL, NOT TO MENTION OURS ARE PRETTY STYLISH!" he said excitedly.

"Speaking of which, what about you? Which school were you from?" Nishinoya said while pointing at Hinata.

"I was from Yukigaoka," Hinata said.

"Hm... Yukigaoka, never heard of it!" Nishinoya observed.

"Last year he managed to take that unknown school to the quarter-finals and only lost to Kageyama's Kitagawa Daiichi," Sugawara said.

"WHAT? SERIOUSLY? Then you must have incredible skills!" Nishinoya said excitedly.

"That's right, Noya. You haven't seen it yet, but this first-year has one of the most powerful serves in the whole prefecture!... although he's a bit cocky..." Tanaka said.

"STRONGER THAN THIS OTHER GUY?" Nishinoya said.

"I have to admit it is..." Kageyama said.

"COOL! I WANT TO TRY TO STOP IT, LET'S DO A QUICK TRAIN..." Nishinoya was saying until he heard the gym door opening, revealing Shimizu entering the place.

"KIYOKO! I CAME TO SEE YOU!" Nishinoya shouted while running frantically towards Shimizu, who skillfully dodged his hug and delivered a slap to his face.

"Alright, let's do our little practice!" Nishinoya said with a visible handprint on his face.

"Okay, I'll go to the other side of the court to serve!" Hinata said while positioning himself and starting his ritual.

"Bring it on!" Nishinoya said, already prepared. Hinata throws the ball up and jumps, then hits the ball with all his strength, making it land beside Nishinoya, who couldn't react because he wasn't expecting something of that level.

"MY GOODNESS! IT'S REALLY NOT AN EXAGGERATION TO SAY IT'S ONE OF THE BEST SERVES IN THE PREFECTURE!" Nishinoya said while preparing again for the next serve.

"Here it comes!" Hinata said while making another serve that this time went at high speed to the back left of the court.

"ROLLING THUNDER," Nishinoya shouted while running and diving to the ground, stretching his arms to get the ball and managing to set it high.

"He's really incredible... it took only one serve for him to adapt," Hinata thought.

"Nice receive!" Sugawara said.

"Hey! Your serve is really powerful! It'll be great to have someone of this level to practice my receives with!" Nishinoya said excitedly.

"Thanks! I've been working hard on it!" Hinata thanked him.

"Wait... where's Asahi? Has he still not come back?" Nishinoya asked.

"No..." Daichi said reluctantly.

"TSK!... THAT COWARD!" Nishinoya shouted.

"DON'T TALK ABOUT YOUR SENIOR LIKE THAT!" Tanaka responded.

"IF HE HASN'T COME BACK YET... I WON'T COME BACK EITHER!" Nishinoya shouted, leaving the gym afterward.

"Hey, Nishinoya!" Hinata called out while heading towards Nishinoya, who was sitting on a bench.

"What is it?" he said.

"I know you're a libero, so... I'd like you to help us improve our receives... I think I have a lot to polish in my defense, and there's another guy who's horrible at receives! It would be an honor to train with the Guardian Deity," Hinata said.

"What an exaggeration! Who told you that?!" Nishinoya said, embarrassed.

"Well, what do you say... can I count on my... Senpai!" Hinata said, leaving Nishinoya practically frozen.

"... You can count on me, and after practice... I'll buy you ice cream... because I'm your SENPAI!" he said smugly.

"But remember, I'm just going to teach you guys, I won't return to the club," Nishinoya warned.

"Alright!" Hinata said.

Back in the gym, receive practice had begun with Nishinoya trying to explain his methods.

"So, basically... you do Zip," he said while making the position with open arms.

"Upa," he said when joining his elbows.

"Pow," he said for when to make the receive.

"This isn't going to work, he can't explain because he acts on instinct!" Tanaka said.

"I completely understand," Kageyama said.

"That's because you're the same species of living being," Tanaka said.

"Wait, let me try to explain..." Hinata said, taking the lead.

"You should overlap one hand on top of the other and join your thumbs and align your fingers, and when the ball is coming, you stretch your arms and let it hit above your wrist... Like this," Hinata said while showing the posture to Tsukishima and Yamaguchi who were trying to replicate the formula.

"Hinata, you're actually a good teacher!" Daichi said.

"True, have you taught receives at any children's school or something like that?" Sugawara asked.

"Well, kind of. At Yukigaoka, the club members at the beginning were either amateurs or beginners, so it kind of became my responsibility as captain to teach them this kind of thing," Hinata said.

"You... the guy who only wants to train and mess around, as captain?" Tsukishima provoked.

"Well, I was the most experienced... at least here I don't have that kind of responsibility anymore and can just 'mess around and train,'" Hinata said, looking at Tsukishima with a mocking face.

"But wait, if you already had this level in receiving and were good at teaching, why didn't you help those two from the beginning?" Tanaka asked.

"Because they never asked me, and there's no way I'd help this petty guy on my own!" Hinata said while pointing at Tsukishima, who just turned his face away when he heard Hinata's criticism.

"Hey, Hinata, you're incredible! You have that powerful serve, you're tall, and you still have solid receives. What position do you play?" Nishinoya asked.

"Recently since joining Karasuno, I've been playing as a middle blocker, but before I played as a wing spiker as the Ace of my team," Hinata said.

"Ace... well, you must have been a much more incredible Ace than that softie we had," Nishinoya said while going to drink water.

"He talks like that but he's the one who trusts Asahi the most," Sugawara said.

"I see," Hinata said.

After practice ended, Nishinoya really bought ice cream as promised, and everyone went home.

Note: Do you think I should start using suffixes like San, Senpai, etc...?
