Chapter 10: Survivors
The subordinate Beastman's voice crackled with rage through its Gunman's external speakers. "What did you do to the captain, you bastards?!"
With Kamina now in control of the larger Gunman and Goro piloting Lagann, the tide of the battle shifted decisively in their favor. The two coordinated their attacks with an unspoken understanding, each strike landing with precision.
"Your turn, Kamina!" Goro shouted, using Lagann's drills to immobilize the subordinate Gunman's legs.
"Got it!" Kamina replied "Mighty Kamina punch!", his newfound Gunman unleashing a powerful punch that sent the smaller enemy staggering.
The Beastman growled in frustration, trying to counter, but the duo gave it no chance. Kamina blocked its wild swings with the sheer bulk of his Gunman, while Goro darted around to attack its weak points.
"Now, Goro!" Kamina yelled, lining up the perfect opening.
Lagann's drill spun with ferocious speed as Goro launched forward. "Take this!" he shouted, piercing through the enemy Gunman's shoulder joint and rendering its arm useless.
The subordinate Gunman stumbled, sparks flying from its damaged limbs. "You'll regret this, humans!" the Beastman bellowed, but its bravado was fading.
"Regret this?" Kamina laughed, delivering the final blow with a punch that toppled the Gunman to the ground. "I think you've got it backward!"
The subordinate Gunman lay in ruins, its pilot barely managing to eject. The battlefield was silent save for the sound of Lagann's drills powering down and the hum of Kamina's new Gunman.
"We make a pretty good team, don't we?" Kamina said, grinning at Goro.
Goro nodded and turned his attention to Simon, who was cautiously approaching the now settled battlefield. "Simon, I told you to stay back," Goro said, his tone equal parts concern and frustration.
Simon clutched the small drill in his hands, his shoulders tense. "I-I couldn't just sit there! You needed help,"
Goro's expression softened as he placed a hand on Simon's shoulder. "I get it. You've got guts, Simon, and I'm proud of you for that. But you don't have to throw yourself into danger like that."
Kamina chimed in, his grin unwavering. "Hey, give the kid a break, Goro! Simon's got the heart of a warrior. And besides, he's family. We all fight together, right?"
Simon looked between the two, feeling a mixture of pride and relief. "I just... I didn't want to let you down."
"You didn't," Goro assured him. "But next time, stick to the plan, alright?"
Simon nodded, gripping the drill tightly. "Alright."
"Good," Kamina said, clapping Simon on the back. "Now let's figure out what we're gonna call my new Gunman!" He gestured dramatically at the towering machine behind him.
"How about Gurren?" Goro suggested, glancing at Kamina. His voice was casual, but inside, he couldn't help feeling a bit nostalgic. After all, it was the name of the original Gunman in the show. Although this was a different model gunman it similar colors.
"Gurren, huh?" Kamina mulled over the name, running a hand along the bright red exterior of his newly acquired Gunman. "It's got a nice ring to it. Bold, powerful… Yeah, Gurren! That's the name of a machine that'll tear through anything in its way!"
Simon tilted his head, looking up at the towering red Gunman. "It's really big... and really red."
"That's the point, Simon!" Kamina said, throwing an arm around him. "It's flashy, just like me. The name fits perfectly!"
Goro smirked, watching Kamina's enthusiasm. "Well, it's decided then. Gurren it is. Let's just hope it holds up in the next fight."
"Don't jinx it!" Kamina retorted, puffing out his chest. "With me at the controls, this bad boy's unstoppable!"
Simon hesitated for a moment before asking, "So... what's next?"
Goro crossed his arms, glancing at the horizon. "We keep moving. If these Beastmen were looking for humans, that means there are more of us out here somewhere. We'll find them and make sure they're safe."
"And we'll smash any Beastmen who get in our way!" Kamina declared, punching his fist into the air.

Teppelin the capital of the beastmen
As Lordgenome relaxed atop his spiral throne, his thoughts drifted to the past, the time before his rule, when the Spiral Warrior race was a force of nature, and the battle for survival was far more intense. He had created the Beastmen to serve his will, a means to maintain order and prevent the resurgence of the Spiral Energy that had once threatened to consume the world.
However, despite his power and dominion over Teppelin, a deep, quiet weariness settled in Lordgenome's bones. The endless cycle of ruling, crushing resistance, and maintaining control over the Beastmen had lost its spark. The humans had been a threat long ago, and though their numbers dwindled underground, they still posed a risk to the future of the Spiral Energy. Yet, over the years, the war against them had become monotonous, leaving Lordgenome with a sense of detachment. The world outside his throne room no longer stirred excitement within him.
"The core drill," he muttered again, this time more sharply. It had been found. The very artifact that symbolized the potential return of the Spiral Energy, the energy that had once threatened to bring about a war of untold destruction. The Core Drill was a tool of power, power that he, and only he, had once controlled.
Lordgenome's eyes narrowed. While part of him wished to let the humans continue their pitiful existence, another part recognized the potential dangers. The core drill could empower these humans. They were no longer the helpless creatures they once were.

"Finding humans up here is easier said than done," Kamina grumbled, his voice carrying over the empty landscape. "Hey, where is everybody?" He shouted again, his voice echoing through the vast, barren terrain.
The trio had been traveling for days, pushing through the desolate stretches of the surface. They were running low on food and water, and despite their hopes, they had yet to find any sign of human life. They had left behind the green areas and moved deeper into the wasteland, but the landscape was just as empty as the last.
"We might need to turn back and stock up at the base. We're running low on supplies."
Simon, keeping his eyes peeled for any signs of life, suddenly shouted. "Hey, look over there! Water! And a lot of it!"
The trio's attention snapped to the distant sight. In the midst of the barren land, there was a shimmering oasis, a stark contrast to the dry, cracked earth surrounding it. The sight was almost too good to be true.
"Water!" Kamina shouted, his spirits lifting at the sight of the oasis. "Finally, some good news!" He pushed Gurren forward with renewed energy, eager to reach the water.
Goro kept a cautious eye on their surroundings as they approached, staying alert for any signs of danger. The surface was unpredictable
As they got closer, Kamina jumped out of the cockpit and ran toward the water, splashing his face with it. "Ahh, this feels amazing!" He grinned, completely carefree. "What a find, huh?"
Simon, following behind, dipped his hands into the water and took a drink. "This is exactly what we needed."
Goro nodded but his eyes remained fixed on the horizon, scanning for any movement.
Kamina, always the optimist, sat down by the water with a carefree smile. "Come on, Goro! You've been all serious all day. We've got water, food, what's the worst that could happen?"
Simon, finished with his drink, stood up and stretched, looking around. "Yeah, but we've gotta make sure we're not in enemy territory. I don't like how quiet it is around here."
Kamina stood up, brushing the sand off his clothes. "What, you too now? The place looks peaceful. We're good."
Before Goro could respond, the ground trembled lightly, and distant sounds of explosions echoed from the west.
"That sounds like a fight," Goro muttered, eyes narrowing. "Kamina, Simon, get in Gurren. We need to check it out."
The trio quickly made their way to their Gunmen. Simon, as usual, was with Kamina, both of them hopping into the cockpit of Gurren. Goro took the controls of Lagann, and with swift coordination, they made their way toward the source of the sounds, carefully avoiding detection.
As they crested a hill, the sight before them was chaotic: a group of humans were fighting for their lives, outnumbered and surrounded by three Gunmen. The humans were bravely defending themselves with makeshift weapons, but they were clearly at a disadvantage against the heavily armed machines.
"We've got to help them," Simon said, his voice filled with urgency.
"We will, don't worry," Goro replied as he gripped the controls. "Kamina, we'll hit them hard and fast."
Kamina nodded, grinning. "I've been waiting for this!"
With a burst of speed, they closed in on the battle. Goro's Lagann moved ahead, getting in position while Kamina and Simon readied Gurren.
Goro's voice crackled over the comms. "Kamina, you take the Gunman on the left. I'll hit the one on the right. We need to clear the field."
"Got it!" Kamina responded enthusiastically, already planning his attack. Simon, ever supportive, stood by Kamina's side, waiting for the perfect moment.
The two Gunmen charged forward. Kamina launched Gurren into a fierce attack on his designated target, knocking it off balance with a powerful punch. Meanwhile, Goro was expertly handling Lagann, using its drills to carve through the other Gunman's defenses.
The humans, seeing the powerful new allies in action, quickly got out of the way, their fear turning into awe as they watched the Gunmen being taken down one by one.
"This is it!" Kamina yelled, swinging Gurren's fist toward the final Gunman.
With one final push, the battle turned in their favor. The Gunmen were destroyed, and the humans were finally safe, though they still looked nervously at Goro's team.
"We'll explain later, but for now, we need to get you to safety," Goro said over the comms.
Kamina grinned. "I think we made quite the impression."
