Chapter 35 Like Humans
Like an illusion in a daze, as the figure moved, Watson's silhouette also faded into the air, yet the icy touch of those fingers remained on Lorenzo's cheek.
Something is about to happen...
Lorenzo's breathing gradually became heavy. He knew clearly that Watson wouldn't scare him for no reason. Although that guy was a hateful Devil, as she herself said, she had never deceived Lorenzo, merely bringing forth story after story of truth to doom the people within them.
It seemed the three talking had not yet noticed Lorenzo's anomaly, the overall atmosphere was great, and as Selyu appeared, more people gathered around, all flattering this future Duchess.
But Lorenzo couldn't blend into this atmosphere at all; his hand slowly lifted, hiding a sharp dining knife in his tight sleeve.
This was a noble ball. Lorenzo hadn't brought any weapons with him; Winchester and the Staff Sword had been left on Cork Street.
Lorenzo cursed under his breath, extremely regretful.
The old Lorenzo was not like this; he was a cold and efficient Demon Hunter, with weapons and vigilance always by his side, unlike now—a detective already plunged into danger but still unaware.
"Do you know why none of them have names?"
An ancient voice resonated in his mind, and Lorenzo couldn't figure out why he would recall these now.
That was a story from long ago; all the orphans had their names taken away by the Church, everyone was a spare weapon, a weapon needing nothing more than an optional code name.
Humans tremble, grieve, make mistakes, panic, but weapons are different; weapons are cold metal, efficient and perfect, abandoning all human flaws.
With deep breaths, when Lorenzo opened his eyes again, there was a rising glimmer beneath the grey-blue. He concealed it well, not making eye contact with anyone; no one noticed anything unusual about this man.
He was pondering, pondering the source of the crisis until he heard a conversation in the crowd.
"Duke Salicardo, your recent reputation is not very good."
Someone said.
"I heard your factory hired many Exiled People, and recently many deaths occurred, the unions are planning to investigate you."
To this, the man laughed.
"Investigate me? They protect Ingwig's workers, not Gaulunaro's, and without me, they couldn't even eat."
In his view, those Exiled People were the perfect labor, cheap and without enjoying any welfare or insurance.
Some people fell silent; after all, he was a wealth mogul controlling many people's economic lifelines, there was no need to offend him, while others seemed to have discovered something, continually echoing him.
Lorenzo stared at Duke Salicardo among the crowd, discovering the endpoint of all clues, though he didn't expect it to be in such a way.
In the crowded heap, Lorenzo directly pushed his way through, a cold aura of death emanating from him, devoid of life, like a cold staging machine, causing all to step aside upon his arrival.
"There's an anomaly."
He approached Duke Phoenix, whispering in his ear.
Duke Phoenix was just about to punish this suddenly close detective but immediately paused due to his words.
"What anomaly?"
"What do you think?"
The only thing that could make Lorenzo feel anomalous could only be a Demon.
Lorenzo didn't continue speaking with him, not even saying goodbye to Selyu, he merely took a last glance at Duke Salicardo, a man still oblivious to the encroaching danger.
Lorenzo strode into the pitch-black shadows, his muscles stretching, the tight fabric burst like a beast breaking free from its bonds, the sharp dining knife slowly slid out from his sleeve, Secret Blood began to rise.
"Did you think of it?"
In the shadows, Watson and Lorenzo walked side by side, their steps gradually hastening as if about to break into a run.
"Yes, this place is full of nobles, even three known Dukes currently. If I were him, this would absolutely be the perfect location for revenge."
"So what do you want to do now?"
Watson provocatively asked.
"Find it, kill it."
Lorenzo said emotionlessly, reaching out to tear off those fancy decorations from his clothes.
"But it's in the dark, you can't protect everyone."
Watson said again.
"Like the Night of the Holy Arrival, no one understands you, no one will help you, you're all just fighting alone."
Lorenzo abruptly stopped, then turned his head to look at her, and those sarcastic eyes filled with laughter. Yet Lorenzo didn't care this time; he was even too lazy to say anything to her.
"Then this time, I'll find a few more helpers."
He said, not knowing what he remembered, a cold smile momentarily appeared on his face.
Thus, pure white flared up in the shadows, blooming like raging flames, the Purifying Flame rising, burning, rebuking the darkness.

The large Geiger Counter deployed nearby detected changes in the indices and immediately transmitted the information. Over a dozen seconds later, within that distant Broken Dome, the Peeping Tom System issued an ear-piercing alarm, a crimson target point appearing on the map.
At this moment, Selyu in the courtyard seemed to feel something, staring in the direction Lorenzo had vanished, dazed, despite others still talking to her, she directly squeezed through the crowd, quickly following.
