GREEN RAGE AND RED RAGE

Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Fires of Retaliation

The Resistance base was a hive of activity as the fleet prepared for their next mission. Every corner of the hangar buzzed with engineers tweaking ships, strategists analyzing data, and soldiers sharpening their skills. The recent victory over the Vanguard's factory had given them momentum, but everyone knew the Vanguard wouldn't let the attack go unanswered.

The leader stood at the center of the command room, a massive table displaying a holographic map of the galaxy. Around them were key officers, including Luther, Jester, and Iris, all ready to hear the next plan.

"Our scouts have confirmed increased Vanguard activity near the Rim colonies," the leader began, pointing to a cluster of stars on the map. "They're regrouping and consolidating forces here, likely to launch a counterattack."

Iris leaned closer, studying the map. "If they secure the Rim colonies, they'll have a stronghold to launch further offensives. We can't let that happen."

Luther grunted. "Agreed. But attacking now would be risky. We're still recovering from the last battle."

Jester smirked. "Since when do we play it safe? Risks are kind of our thing."

The leader raised a hand to quiet the room. "We won't rush in blind. Our first priority is reconnaissance. We need to know what we're up against before making any moves."

---

Hours later, a small team of scouts launched from the base in stealth ships designed to evade detection. Their mission was simple: infiltrate the Rim colonies and gather intelligence on the Vanguard's movements.

Jester volunteered to lead the operation, his knack for improvisation making him an ideal choice. As his team approached the Rim, they activated cloaking systems and drifted silently through the void.

"Keep your eyes peeled," Jester said, his voice low. "We're in their backyard now."

The ships slipped past Vanguard patrols, their stealth systems holding steady. As they reached the outskirts of the first colony, the sight before them was chilling.

The colony, once a thriving hub of trade and culture, was now a fortress. Massive Vanguard warships orbited the planet, their shadows casting an ominous pall over the surface. Below, factories churned out weapons and drones, while legions of Vanguard soldiers patrolled the streets.

"Looks like they're getting ready for something big," one of the scouts whispered.

"Take all the readings you can," Jester ordered. "We need every scrap of intel if we're going to take this place down."

---

Back at the base, the leader and their team awaited the scouts' return. The tension in the room was palpable, every passing moment a reminder of the danger their comrades faced.

Luther paced by the viewport, his massive frame radiating unease. "They should've reported back by now."

"They'll make it," the leader said firmly, though their own nerves were stretched thin.

Finally, the comms crackled to life. "This is Jester," came the familiar voice. "We've got visuals, data, and a whole lot of bad news."

The leader exhaled, relief washing over them. "Bring it in. We'll debrief as soon as you land."

---

Jester's team returned with a wealth of information, but the picture it painted was grim. In the briefing room, holograms of the colony's defenses flickered to life.

"The Vanguard's turning the Rim colonies into a fortress," Jester explained. "They've got factories, fleets, and enough firepower to wipe us out if we're not careful."

Iris frowned. "Attacking them head-on would be suicide."

"Which is why we won't," the leader said. "We'll use sabotage to weaken their defenses before launching a full-scale assault. Hit them where it hurts, then strike hard."

Luther nodded. "Smart. But it'll take precision. One misstep, and they'll be on us."

"We'll need our best people for this," the leader said, glancing around the room. "Jester, Luther, Iris—you're leading the teams."

---

As preparations began, the base was alive with determination. Fighters suited up, ships were armed, and plans were finalized.

Luther's team focused on targeting the factories, their goal to disrupt the Vanguard's production lines. Iris would lead an infiltration unit to disable the planetary shield generator, while Jester's team created chaos to draw enemy attention.

Jester couldn't resist a quip as they geared up. "Looks like I get to be the distraction. Again."

"You're good at it," Iris shot back, smirking.

"Too good," Jester replied with a mock sigh.

---

The mission launched under the cover of darkness, the Resistance teams splitting off to their respective targets.

Luther's assault on the factories was swift and brutal. His team used explosives to cripple key machinery, the ensuing chaos halting production.

Iris's infiltration was equally effective. Despite heavy resistance, her team reached the shield generator and planted charges at critical points. The generator's destruction would leave the colony vulnerable to the fleet's assault.

Jester's team, true to form, created a spectacle. They hit multiple targets in rapid succession, keeping the Vanguard's forces scattered and disoriented.

"Keep them guessing!" Jester shouted, lobbing a grenade into a group of pursuing drones. "We're just getting started!"

---

As the teams regrouped, the colony was in disarray. Fires burned across the surface, and Vanguard communications were in shambles.

The Resistance fleet, waiting on the outskirts of the system, received the signal to attack. Ships surged forward, their weapons blazing as they tore through the Vanguard's scattered defenses.

On the ground, the leader joined the final push, their presence rallying the fighters.

"Today, we take back the Rim!" the leader shouted, their voice carrying over the battlefield.

The Resistance surged forward, their determination unyielding. Against all odds, they were winning.

---

By dawn, the colony was theirs. The Vanguard's forces had been driven out, their once-imposing stronghold reduced to smoldering ruins.

As the Resistance fighters celebrated their victory, the leader stood with Luther and Jester, their gazes fixed on the horizon.

"This was just the beginning," the leader said. "The Vanguard will strike back. Hard."

"Let them," Luther rumbled. "We'll be ready."

Jester grinned, his energy undiminished. "And we'll make sure they regret it."

The leader nodded. "One step at a time."
