Chapter 465 – Good Story
Max ran as fast as he could. His Tarot Card glowed as energy balls fired ahead of him to blow the rocks away.
Your next chapter awaits on empire
However, the explosion caused a small cave in. Rocks fell behind him, creating obstacles. Max jumped over the obstacles and kept running.
He was almost out of the mine! All he had to do was run through the tunnel and jump out of the hole. Then, he would be safe.
Just when he thought that...
Boom!
The tunnel collapsed, blocking his path. Max gritted his teeth as he fired Tarot Card. It did nothing but create an explosion.
Then, he grabbed his tong and swung it.
Energy surged as it formed a large tong that could grab the rocks ahead. Max tried to lift it but was unable to. He was trapped.
Thankfully, the shaking ended, but now the mine looked like a mess.
"I survived!" He sighed in relief before looking around. "Now this is a problem. How do I continue the mission? Do I need to dig my way out of here?"
— Dig your way out lol
— Breeze is doomed.
— Look at Breeze's desperation. I really like it.
— Tong is power! Grab those rocks!
— He just did it and it's useless. He's trapped here until he find the way out
— I wish I could help him lol
— True. Just like what others said, Breeze is doomed.
Max was annoyed by those guys' comments. He wielded the tong and swung it again. It was still useless.
"Well, it looks like I have to find another way out."
Sighing, he began to walk. This game's progression was wonderful. He was immersed in the story and felt as if he was the exorcist.
However, this also meant he might die easily.
Max explored the mine while listening to the chat's opinion. Some guys knew this game but didn't tell him anything. However, some wild guess was that the corpse was still in this place.
He agreed with that kind of thinking. Taking out a corpse from the mine wouldn't be easy unless you had dexterity and tools. And the evil spirit definitely couldn't do that since it was controlling the zombie villagers.
Those zombies were stupid and couldn't do any complicated work.
Max looked around while thinking like that. Then, he found a hole that was hidden behind a boulder. It was small, he wouldn't discover it if he wasn't looking for it.
"Is this where the evil spirit hid the corpse? Or whoever took it? But why would they hide it here?" He wondered as he approached the hole.
Then, he saw something.
"Footprint!"
— Footprint!
— We're getting close now
— Damn, all this investigation is just to find a corpse
Crouching, he looked into the hole and found that it led to somewhere. His gut feelings told him that he had to go through this tiny hole to continue the story.
Max crawled through the hole carefully. It was difficult, but he managed to do it. He had no idea how he could bring the corpse out from this place if he found it later, though.
His objective was, after all, to give a proper burial to the corpse.
After crawling for a while, Max arrived at another room inside the mine. He stood up and looked around.
"What is this place?" He wondered as he looked at the chat.
— This looks like a secret passage
— Damn, there is a secret room in the mine.
— Is that a bookshelf? And a table? This room looks like an office. There is even a lantern on the table!
Max's eyes brightened as he walked toward the shelf.
There were books on the shelf, but one of them was glowing. It was clearly something he had to read.
Taking it, he looked at the cover. It was a journal.
"Secret Journal #2." Max muttered as he opened it. "Let's see... Author is unknown, owner is also unknown... The content is..."
Suddenly, a cutscene started. He became a half-transparent entity as his character read the journal loudly.
It was to make sure the player was able to listen to the story without having to read anything. Some people hated to read, after all.
"August 24th. Today, we found an evil spirit near our village. It was hiding in a dark place while avoiding human. The children found it first and told their parents about it. They told me as well, so I went to investigate. My findings were... interesting. The evil spirit is dangerous. It bit a dog when we caught it and killed it instantly. I buried it and went back to report to the village chief. He gave us money as a reward for finding it."
"August 25th. The evil spirit escaped and attacked the village last night. It bit two children before escaping into the forest. We're preparing for a hunt. The village chief said we will have to hunt it ourselves. If we report afterward, we will be given money from the Exorcist Headquarters. The hunting group consists of me, the blacksmith, the stable master, and other strong villagers. Hopefully, this evil spirit can be captured safely."
Max frowned upon hearing it. This meant there was an evil spirit before this one.
"August 31st. We failed to capture the evil spirit. It lured us into traps and ambushed us when we were distracted. It bit the stable master and blacksmith and they turned into zombies. I hid under the hole while the rest died. The evil spirit dragged them away while mumbling something about feeding them cow meat. After it left, I returned to the village to report."
"September 2nd. I am inside the hole. I buried the corpses of the stable master and blacksmith here so that evil spirit won't eat them. I hid here while hoping that the evil spirit would leave soon. I know it was searching for me, so I am afraid to come out."
Max paused when he read the date. He glanced at the chat and knew what they were thinking.
"September 6th. The evil spirit is gone. It's been five days since it left, but I am still hiding inside this hole. The corpses are rotting already. I have to bury them somewhere else. I don't want to be eaten. Evil spirit hasn't eaten humans yet, but it might do it one day."
"September 9th. We're safe. Exorcists came and exorcised the evil spirit. They arrived in our village to ask about it. I told them everything I knew. Thankfully, they gave us gold as a reward. I plan to use it to buy a weapon to protect the village."
"September 15th. I returned to the hole and created a hidden office. It's wrong. That evil spirit wasn't a good one. It was created. Someone manipulated it. I saw it. A person appeared after the evil spirit was exorcised. It killed the exorcists before dragging the evil spirit away. I hid inside this hole while crying. What should I do?"
"November 1st. All villagers are replaced. Only I am left. I don't know why I survived. They want to replace me too, but I am hiding inside this hole. This journal is my proof. One day, someone will come and save us. Evil spirit, please... Please help us."
"November 9th. They found me. If I die, I will become an evil spirit too. I must stop them."
Max finished reading the journal. His character closed it as it disappeared from his hand.
"An evil spirit that was controlled by someone? This sounds like a conspiracy."
The chat was shocked by this revelation. He was shocked as well. The cutscene ended and he was able to control his character again.
"So, the evil spirit from before was manipulated by someone. And then this new one is the owner of this journal. An evil spirit that saved a villager? What happened to the previous one? And who is the person who manipulates it? What is their goal?"
Max asked those questions as he looked around.
"And this means the corpse is still in this place." He muttered as he walked toward the bookshelf.
There were three more journals, but none of them glowed. However, the bookshelf itself glowed as if it pointed to his next destination.
Max touched it and pushed it aside. A hidden path appeared behind it.
"A hidden path. Of course." He muttered as he walked into the path.
This game was a horror game. There was a need to have secret paths like this to create suspense.
He walked into the path quietly. The story was about to reach the climax.
