Chapter 220: New Character
In the new week, Alice excitedly rushed to the Sakura Garden Community.
It was before seven in the morning. Aika was watering the flowers and vegetables she had planted in the garden. She saw her coming, put down the teapot, and opened the door: "Alice, don't you have to go to work today?"
"Yes, that's why I came early." Alice replied: "I forgot to pick up Takumi's manuscript yesterday. Is he awake?"
"He's awake and still washing. You can go straight in."
Aika let Alice in and continued working.
Alice entered the room, and Takumi had just come out of the bathroom, wiping his head with a towel.
"Good morning, Takumi, why are you washing your hair now?"
"Huh? Alice...". Takumi turned his head and smiled at the editor: "My hair's messy after sleeping, just wash it, and it's already May."
Time flies, and May arrives before you know it. The cool weather occasionally turns hot for a few days.
"Are you here to pick up the manuscript? It's in the studio, already packed." Takumi pointed to the studio. Alice entered and saw two full file bags. Inuyasha was still the same, but Detective Conan...
"Is Conan's manuscript too thick?"
Alice thought, and she opened the bag. She took out the manuscript, but because it was too thick, one of them accidentally fell to the floor.
She bent down to pick it up, her face slightly stunned: "This picture..."
"It's a new character." Takumi went to the studio door and told Alice: "I want to use her as the cover of Weekly Shōnen."
Cover?
Alice looked at the girl in the picture. This picture was strikingly beautiful. It was more than enough to be the cover of Weekly Shōnen. Luckily, Alice had seen several similar pictures the day before. She could barely keep her composure. Stop thinking about beauty and look for other aspects.
"Is the new character an elementary school student?"
The blonde editor frowned slightly: "It's pretty, but only three characters from Detective Conan have appeared on the cover of Weekly Shōnen Magazine. Conan, Ran, and Kaito Kid are very important characters, but this new character...".
How important is this character who has never appeared before? Judging by age alone, Alice believes that elementary school students have little potential to be explored.
There's a group of young detectives in Detective Conan, which could be said to be a group of child detectives, but their roles have never been very important. Is Takumi going to increase the role of this detective group?
Isn't that putting the cart before the horse? The adult cases in Detective Conan are the key, and the young detective group is relatively easy. Their roles are fine as a change; too many can easily make readers feel disgusted.
"This new character is Haibara Ai. The original manuscript has three chapters. You can take a look."
Takumi smiled.
"Three chapters?"
Alice's expression was a little strange. It was really a coincidence. Weekly Shōnen Magazine is short, and adding three chapters of Detective Conan was exactly what she was looking for.
Furthermore, Hinotori Publishing found a new channel yesterday, and Takumi immediately added fuel to the fire. The cover image is undoubtedly attractive, if the content is also good.
"Sales will increase a lot...",
she thought. Alice no longer hesitated, took the original manuscript of "Detective Conan", and read it. She read it very carefully. It could be said that the content of these three chapters will determine whether Takumi has any chance of surpassing "The Detective Sherlock 2".
The new character prepared by Takumi is named Haibara Ai. She is an important character in the original "Detective Conan". It could even be said that she is the second most important character, after the protagonist. Sometimes, her popularity surpasses that of the heroine.
Haibara Ai's appearance once worked a miracle. She gave new life to "Detective Conan", which had been losing popularity over time. Since then, her popularity has not diminished for a long time. It is to be expected that this character possesses great charm.
Her charm comes from many factors: an exceptional and tragic past, the same experience as the protagonist, intelligent, beautiful, with a very high IQ and a calm personality.
This "elementary school student" will undoubtedly move readers.
"Why is it broken?" Alice asked, the first to be detonated, she quickly finished reading the three episodes and stood up: "Takumi, what's wrong with Haibara Ai?"
"This development is amazing! Takumi, tell me the story!"
she asked excitedly.
The content of the three episodes is excellent, but, professionally speaking, it's just a foreshadowing plot. The three episodes describe a girl with an extremely high IQ and a beautiful girl, and finally reveal her identity.
That identity is so amazing that it will undoubtedly make readers exclaim: people cannot understand why this situation happened.
But the story breaks at a critical moment...
"Chapter break!"
Alice seemed to hear the readers' curses, and she was also eager to discover the plot.
Takumi smiled slightly and didn't answer Alice's question. Instead, he asked: "Is there any problem with including these three episodes in Weekly Shōnen?"
"Problem? No! No problem!"
Alice shook her head. Although she didn't know the plot, there was no doubt that the original manuscript's story was excellent, and the new character's charm was as good as Kaito Kid's.
"Forget it, I understand!"
Suddenly, she came to her senses and extended her hand, saying: "Don't say anything. Spoilers don't matter. I'll wait for your manuscript next week!"
The plot development was too unexpected. Alice thought that reading manga would be more interesting than spoilers. She carefully organized the thick manuscript with a smile.
With these manuscripts, this week's Weekly Shōnen is worth looking forward to.
"Let's keep the Sakura Books matter a secret for now...", Alice thought so she could surprise Takumi after the launch.
She picked up the manuscript and said goodbye. Takumi walked her to the door, wanting to say something, but he stopped.
"Anything else?"
Alice noticed his strangeness and laughed: "Don't keep it to yourself, just tell me directly."
After saying this, Takumi nodded.
"I'm preparing a new work." He gave Alice a shocking answer: "I don't want to publish the new work in Weekly Shōnen or Weekly Shōnen. When you go to work, tell Genji that I want to publish a new magazine."
A new magazine, that's the only way Takumi can think of to negotiate with Weekly Boutique. If both manga are published in Weekly Shōnen, there will be no way to surpass Kanto Manga Company's sales.
Takumi wants to use the new magazine to serialize "One Piece". Although he has temporarily left Hinotori Publishing's daily work, now is the agreed deadline with Genji: he can lead the company's strategic countermeasures.
He asked Alice to convey the message as a gesture of politeness, so Genji could mentally prepare in advance.
"A new magazine?" Alice asked in surprise. "It's impossible. Weekly Boutique's model cannot be replicated. We have too few mangaka."
Hinotori Publishing's mangaka were already having difficulty serializing Weekly Shōnen and Weekly Shōjo. Alice considered launching a new magazine unrealistic.
Takumi, as expected, understood.
"The new magazine doesn't need other mangaka. I will be enough." He explained: "This magazine is published monthly, like a single volume. I don't think the pressure will be too much."
Volumes are published every two or three months, or every six months, but Takumi plans to publish four or five manga episodes a month. This new magazine will only publish One Piece, but there are many possibilities in the future.
Alice felt a little moved. She knew that Takumi was fast and that publishing a monthly magazine was not impossible. And a magazine with only Mirai-sensei's works, just thinking about it, people wanted to buy it.
"No problem." She nodded: "I'll let him know."
It was another piece of good news. Alice felt that Takumi had a better chance of beating Weekly Boutique. With some anticipation, she left the Sakura Garden Community.
Takumi watched the back of the Porsche. Aika, who had finished her work, approached.
"Alice has been diligently here these past two days. But what happened to Shiori? She didn't come during the holidays."
Aika looked at Takumi with some concern. Had the two young people fought? Before, Shiori would stay there and not want to leave whenever she had holidays.
"Shiori, haha, she missed too many classes, and the school asked her to make them up!" Takumi laughed: "Midterms are next week. She said she wants to get first place in the class."
Midterms, a bit problematic...
Takumi thought he had to go back to school, and it coincided with Thursday and Friday, a crucial time for the launch of Weekly Shōnen.
