Chapter 226: The Strong Enemy Reappears
And in the eastern part of the city, the peril surrounding the trio of the Six-Eared Macaque was increasing, especially for Lin Xi, who had almost fallen into collapse. If the spatial chains from before were barely acceptable, the current scene was something Lin Xi simply could not fathom. It was as incredible as suddenly seeing someone who looked exactly like oneself.
The sight before Lin Xi now was a hundred, no, a thousand times more shocking. Just as he used his unique skill, which he had comprehended after a millennium of study with the Dong Tian Chi, to kill the black bug for the second time, he didn't even have time to rest before he saw a complex and intricate pattern appear around his body.
Upon seeing the pattern, Lin Xi felt a chill run down his spine. The pattern formed quickly, and with one glance, Lin Xi knew it was the unique skill he had realized through the Dong Tian Chi—Life and Death Decay. Everything surrounded by this pattern would wither and crumble to dust in the blink of an eye.
Understanding the terror of this pattern, Lin Xi had no time to ponder how it had come to be or why the skill he used to kill the black bug had inexplicably appeared again. As soon as he saw the pattern, he was already holding the Tongtian Ruler, chanting something rapidly under his breath.
Just as the pattern that had appeared around Lin Xi's body was about to close in, his hands slammed together in a palm seal, and he formed the Lotus Dharma Seal while countless new patterns emerged on the Dong Tian Chi, more than before. As these patterns began to spin around Lin Xi, they spread out slowly with the increasing speed of their rotation.
Since the newly formed patterns started from the center where Lin Xi was encircled, they soon collided fiercely with the previous ring of patterns. The collisions became more and more intense until the two sets of patterns began to consume each other and slowly canceled out.
Five breaths later, the spinning patterns stopped. The patterns that had appeared out of nowhere and attacked Lin Xi had all vanished, leaving only seven or eight lonely patterns circling around him. Lin Xi's face was ashen, and even a few strands of his hair had turned to silver.
Although he managed to neutralize the withering power of the patterns with the same technique, a part of his life force was still drained, turning his hair to silver threads.
Ignoring his appearance, he sat directly on the ground, planting the Tongtian Ruler into the earth beside him, and took deep breaths. Lin Xi was pale, even his hands trembling slightly. This was the aftermath of overexertion of both physical and spiritual power, compounded by the life force taken by the pattern, leaving Lin Xi extremely weak.
Nobody would have thought that the strongest contender of the Six Kingdoms War, the top-level master hidden within the Genesis Divine Realm, who had single-handedly obtained thirty Domain Beads, would be brought to such a desperate state by a black bug.
As Lin Xi sat on the ground due to severe exhaustion, Six-Eared Macaque and King of Qin glanced back at the bisected Tongtian Worm and noticed it was dead. They breathed a sigh of relief and walked towards Lin Xi.
Just as they had taken less than five steps forward, they suddenly saw Lin Xi wildly flailing his arms and then, as if mustering all his strength, he yelled, "Quick, get out of the way, don't look back, hurry!" Hearing Lin Xi's shout, Six-Eared Macaque and King of Qin seemed to sense something amiss, as a shadow seemed to loom overhead, dimming the light around them.
But without any hesitation or doubt, they pushed off powerfully with their legs and moved sideways in opposite directions. The instant they did, two colossal pillar-like objects fell from the sky, smashing a huge hole where they had just been standing. Yes, a hole, not a pit.
The windstorm raised by the astonishing speed of the falling columns caused Six-Eared Macaque to tumble, but he quickly stood up somewhat awkwardly and looked up. He saw that a pitch-black pillar-like object had plunged into the sand at the exact spot where he had just stood. If it hadn't been for Lin Xi's warning, he would have certainly met with disaster.
But what was this thing? Could it be a stone column? Seeing the black column stuck in the sand motionless, it really did appear to be just an ordinary black column, which made Six-Eared Macaque cautiously approach with the Crimson Blood Roaming Dragon Staff in hand, poking it to gauge that it was neither wood nor metal.
Just as he was about to ask King of Qin if he was alright, Six-Eared Macaque suddenly felt a vibration under the sand and without thinking, he leaped backwards. At the same moment, a gigantic maw lined with sharp, vicious fangs emerged from beneath the sand.
Luckily, Six-Eared Macaque was quick enough to avoid it, for if the creature had gotten a hold of him, death or disability would have been certain.
Some were still unsettled when they looked again at that black pillar, only to see that the huge maw, after burrowing out of the sand, continued to climb upwards, and as the maw rose, the half-section of the pillar that was stuck in the sand sank a little bit further into the ground.
It was then, even the slow-witted Six-Eared Macaque realized that the pillar that had descended from the sky was actually just another form of the Tongtian Worm.
By this time, King of Qin had also reached Lin Xi's side and after inspecting his wounds, his brow furrowed tightly. He, too, heard the noise behind him and turned around just in time to see that the black pillar which had assaulted him had transformed into a pitch-black Tongtian Worm, full of sharp teeth, and was seemingly searching for something in his direction.
Six-Eared Macaque noticed that the black monster worm that had emerged from the ground didn't continue to attack him, but was instead twisting in the same spot, apparently afflicted with some issue. So while remaining vigilant, he approached Lin Xi's side and inquired about his condition from King of Qin.
However, King of Qin didn't respond, but instead stared at the two black monster worms with a particularly ugly expression, lost in thought.
Seeing that King of Qin was ignoring him, Six-Eared Macaque simply squatted down and checked Lin Xi's condition using his Divine Sense as his eyes. But the result also made his brow crease. Lin Xi was not only extremely exhausted in terms of strength and Spiritual Power, but even his Life Force had been damaged. Though the damage wasn't severe, it left Lin Xi extremely weak.
Furthermore, the weakness caused by the loss of Life Force could not be recovered in a short amount of time.

If there weren't any Heaven and Earth Treasures to replenish his Life Force, Lin Xi could only recover slowly on his own. If that were the case, he would be completely out of the Six Kingdoms War. But even so, even if they failed to obtain the Primordial Earth Pearl, the Genesis Divine Nation would likely still come out in first place.
Though if Lin Xi were abandoned here, given the current situation, it was feared he wouldn't survive a Chinese Hour. If the last participant of the Genesis Divine Nation died, they would certainly be ranked last. In that case, the standing of the Netherworld World would rise, and the benefits gained would be entirely different.
It would also bring immense benefits to those participating in the Patrolling Celestial World trial.
Shaking his head, Six-Eared Macaque turned and glanced at the two black worms before saying, "I'll carry Lin Xi on my back. You stay on guard. Let's hurry and leave. There's something wrong with those two worms." After saying this, Six-Eared Macaque turned and hoisted Lin Xi onto his back, grabbing the Crimson Blood Roaming Dragon Staff with one hand and was about to hurry King of Qin along.
But then he turned his head and found King of Qin staring intently at the black worms, his face very pale.
A chill went through Six-Eared Macaque's heart before he urged in a low voice, "King of Qin, what are you spacing out for? Let's go!" After that, he tugged at King of Qin. King of Qin, being pulled by Six-Eared Macaque, seemed to snap back to reality, then turned with a look of utter despair and said to Six-Eared Macaque, "It's too late. We can't leave now. They're coming out!"
As if to confirm King of Qin's words, the two black worms began to thrash violently, and suddenly, their backs bulged as if something inside was struggling to get out. Then, under Six-Eared Macaque's shocked gaze, the protrusions on the backs of the black worms were torn open by whatever was inside, and shockingly, two people crawled out from the bodies of the black worms.
Though called people, that was only because these two emerging beings had human limbs. However, their skin was similar to the black monster worms—a wrinkled black. Furthermore, these two persons had a pair of almost transparent wings on their backs, while the sharp teeth at the corners of their mouths glinted coldly, sticking out.
Witnessing this eerie scene, just as Six-Eared Macaque was about to ask King of Qin something, he suddenly saw a flash of black before his eyes, followed by a violent pain in his abdomen. The next moment, he was hit by a tremendous force and sent flying backward.
The impact was so strong that Six-Eared Macaque couldn't control his body in midair and ended up crash-landing back-first onto a sand dune.
Although landing on the dune meant that it didn't cause much pain, the intense agony in his abdomen was very strong—it felt like his internal organs had been shattered. Lin Xi, who had been on his back, was now nowhere to be seen, and whether he was alive or dead was a mystery.
Struggling to rise, just as he prepared to stand up, he suddenly felt a pain in his back, and his body violently hit the sand. The person clad in black armor was now stepping on Six-Eared Macaque's back and slowly began to move his arms and neck.
