Grand Voyage: I Start My Journey With A Ghost Ship!

chapter 41

Hu Wei’s vessel was a Level 3 ship.

Both of its expansion slots had been used to build cannons.

[Name: Standard Cannon]
[Type: Ship Equipment]
[Quality: Common]
[Description: A perfectly ordinary cannon with a range of 200 meters.]
[Fixed to the combat room, cannot be disassembled]

Yang Yi had considered trying to move the cannons over to his own ship, but after reading the info, he dropped the idea entirely.

But this Hu Wei guy was seriously loaded. A shitload of supplies, all of which were now a nice little bonus for Yang Yi.

The ship's supplies and equipment were as follows:

Timber x832, Cloth x742, Stone x935, Steel x83, Crystal x63, Sulfur x35, Fresh Water x50L, and various foodstuffs like sausages and bread—enough to feed Yang Yi and Suna for half a month.

Equipment included a common quality telescope, a simple fishing rod, and two fleece jackets.

Yang Yi did a quick calculation. These supplies were enough to upgrade the Nightmare Star to Level 3.

But he still had no clue where to get the Abyssal Demon corpses needed for the upgrade.

Dismantling this Level 3 galleon would also net him an additional Timber x600, Cloth x300, Stone x300, and Steel x20.

The total amount of resources already exceeded the Nightmare's cargo limit.

As things stood, the most efficient plan was to hold off on dismantling this ship.

Once he had the Abyssal Demon corpses and upgraded the Nightmare Star to Level 3, he could come back and scrap it.

For now, he could just use it as a floating warehouse, towing it along behind them.

After Yang Yi and Suna moved the food, water, and high-grade materials onto the Nightmare Star, they steered the ship away from the island.

When they were about two hundred nautical miles out, Yang Yi’s expression suddenly changed.

His entire body was overcome by an unbearable itch, as if countless insects were crawling on and biting him.

He immediately stopped the ship, turned around, and headed back. The itching vanished.
Now Yang Yi knew why Hu Wei had been guarding that island. The guy couldn't leave, not at all.

"What happened?" Suna asked, emerging from the cabin after sensing the change.

"The spiders in my body won't let me get far from this island," Yang Yi said, his face grim.

Suna frowned, and after a moment of thought, said, "Stop the ship. You, come with me."

She pulled Yang Yi along, all the way to the laboratory.

Inside were two large metal tables. One was covered with various instruments, alongside a pile of minced meat—the remains of Hu Wei's corpse, which Suna had collected.

"I just finished the examination. I can now confirm that this body is empty inside!" Suna's expression was more serious than he had ever seen it.

"Empty?"

"That's right! No internal organs, no bones. Just a thin layer of skin!" Suna explained, using tweezers to lift a piece of flesh.

"Didn't you notice how little meat there was? And how little he bled! At first, I thought the rest had just fallen into the sea, but after checking piece by piece, I found no traces of bones or organs! It's all just superficial skin and muscle."

Yang Yi understood instantly.

"The body is hollow. No brain, no guts, no heart! This must have happened the instant Hu Wei died. The spider ate all his bones and organs!" Suna stated her conclusion.

Hearing her explanation, a cold sweat dripped down Yang Yi's forehead.

He probably had the same kind of spiders inside him. His life was not his own. At any moment, he could be devoured by these spiders, die, and become an empty shell.

Suddenly, Yang Yi noticed a fragrance.

Once he was aware of it, the scent was impossible to ignore. It made his mouth water, forcing him to swallow his saliva.

It was the power of the Gourmet Chef's Knife, making Hu Wei's corpse delectable.

"Suna, you didn't… sneak a bite, did you?" Yang Yi asked, horrified.

Knowing her personality, he wouldn't have been surprised if she'd tried a piece just to see what it tasted like.

"What are you talking about! This is a precious sample. Why would I eat it?" Suna said, slightly annoyed.

"Oh, good," Yang Yi breathed a sigh of relief.

He had a feeling that eating anything prepared by that Gourmet Chef's Knife would be a very bad idea.

It could be addictive.

"Alright, your turn!" Suna cleared the table, putting all of Hu Wei's remains into glass containers, and gestured for Yang Yi to lie down.

"What's this for….?"

"To examine you. To see how these spiders are appearing inside your body!" Suna explained.

Yang Yi was apprehensive, but in the end, he lay down on the metal table.

Because he also wanted to know what the hell was happening to him.

Suna began her examination, probing and touching his body.

"Surface is normal. Open your mouth."

Yang Yi complied.

Suna peered inside with a magnifying glass, then scraped off some tissue from his mucous membrane, made a simple slide, and observed it under a light microscope.

The way her brows were knitted together made Yang Yi feel like he was on pins and needles.

Like a patient waiting for a doctor's verdict.

The more hesitant the doctor looks, the more the patient panics.
A few minutes later, Suna walked over, a sharp dagger now in her hand.

"What are you doing!"

Yang Yi shot up in an instant, backing away to keep his distance.

"What's got you so wound up? If you're afraid of a little pain, then pay up. I'm out of Conch Coins!" Suna said, holding the dagger with a natural air of authority.

Without hesitation, Yang Yi transferred 2000 Conch Coins to Suna.

She fiddled with her log for a moment, and soon a modern blood-drawing kit materialized in her hands.

"You're going to draw my blood?" Yang Yi asked.

"Obviously! I was just going to make a little cut, but since you seem so scared of pain, this will do!" Suna walked over with the kit.

Damn it! This woman definitely put on ◆ Nоvеlіgһt ◆ (Only on Nоvеlіgһt) that little act just to trick me out of my money!

Though Yang Yi had no proof, he felt it was highly likely.

As she drew his blood, Yang Yi asked about the laboratory.

"This lab, can it provide any kind of tool?"

"There are major limitations. It can basically only provide experimental equipment and medical tools. The more complex and larger the item, the more expensive it is."

"What about a lighter?"

"It can make a lighter, but not the fuel. Currently, the lab can only create things made of glass, metal, ceramic, plastic, and the like. It won't provide fuels like alcohol. And all equipment purchased in the lab cannot be taken out of the lab," Suna replied.

"I see!" Yang Yi nodded.

No wonder the alcohol lamp he'd seen earlier was empty.

"Then can you generate flint, or some other way to make fire?" Yang Yi asked again.

"No, but you could try rubbing two sticks together."

"Forget it!"

Yang Yi didn't think he could successfully make a fire by friction in the humid sea air.

Even if he did, it wasn't a long-term solution. Once they reached the frigid polar seas, he could probably rub sticks until the end of time and not get a single spark.

Suna drew 300cc of his blood, then made a blood smear and continued her observation.

"Just as I thought. You should come have a look." She had Yang Yi come over.

Yang Yi didn't know much about biology, but he could manage to look through a pre-focused microscope.

In the field of view, besides red blood cells, there were many tiny particles.

"See those black particles? Prepare yourself."

Suna changed the magnification and adjusted the focus. Yang Yi was immediately scared into a cold sweat by what he saw.

They were microscopic spiders, curled up into little balls. You needed to magnify them enough just to make out their outlines.

In theory, spiders much smaller than a cell shouldn't exist.

And yet, Yang Yi was seeing them under a microscope.

His body… was likely filled with these tiny spiders, all lying dormant. Once awakened… Yang Yi would suffer unimaginable torture before being devoured completely, dead.

It seemed he had no choice but to go to that island.

There had to be a solution there.

"Don't panic. Give me some time," Suna said, moving closer to reassure him.

"I can try… to kill the spiders inside you."
