Chapter 80: Chapter 80 Promise

Half a month ago, the first impression Kenda left on Law was arrogance. But now, despite his injured arms, Kenda knelt in the rain, bowing his head and begging Law for help.

This stark contrast in demeanor reflected the desperation that adversity often brings, but it also demonstrated genuine sincerity.

In fact, Kenda did not need to go to such an extent. He only needed to mention it casually and Law would readily agree to it.

However, the fact that Kenda resorted to this level of humility showed that he truly had no other options but to turn to Law.

While Law had a vague sense that this situation wasn't so simple, he couldn't find a reason to refuse. No matter what Kenda asked him to do, he would just regard it as the compensation for the 128 collections.

Furthermore, Kenda's reaction was so exaggerated that Law thought about the situation Ellie might be facing, giving him even less reason to decline.

Repaying kindness, no matter how subtle or overt, has always been Law's principle.

"I'm very curious about what kind of difficulties have made you kneel down and kowtow to seek help, but I will help, not for you, but for Ellie." Law looked at Kenda, who was kneeling in front of him, and did not take the initiative to help him up.

Hearing Law agreed, Kenda lifted his head abruptly and his face is filled with elation.

"Let me make this clear first. If you're asking me to use my abilities to maintain your drug business, then I'm sorry, you've definitely found the wrong person." Law said coldly.

Drugs had always been a scourge, the root of breakup of countless families. Considering Barney's identity, if Kenda's request was related to that, Law wouldn't hesitate to shut him down.

"No, you misunderstand."

Kenda quickly shook his head, and even used a formal and respectful tone after Law agreed.

"To me, Young Lady's safety is the most important thing."

Hearing Kenda's earnest and solemn response, Law couldn't help but remain silent. After Barney's death, such words carried little weight, but he decided to give Kenda the benefit of the doubt.

"Let's get on board. Go take care of your injuries first, and then tell me the details of the matter." Law took the initiative and stepped directly onto the stairs to board the airship.

Although he has the appearance and physique of a twelve or thirteen-year-old, his mental age is twenty-one. His speech and behavior are not those of a teenager, and when he interacts with others, it is easy for people to overlook his age.

And what happened tonight really made it impossible for Kenda to regard Law as a just a thirteen-years old boy. He didn't even find it strange to use a respectful tone while talking to Law.

Suppressing the joy in his heart, Kenda stood up and followed Law up the stairs to board the airship.

Although it was the first time for him and Barney to cooperate with Meteor City, Kenda wasn't ignorant of its workings. On the contrary, he had a good understanding of the place. Otherwise, they would not have been so confident in cooperating with Meteor City. But they hadn't expected their first partnership to end in disaster.

Based on Kenda's understanding of Meteor City, he felt that Law was truly an anomaly on Meteor City. Whether it was his performance during the test on the airship, but also his actions in compensating residents for property damage, Law's behavior contradicted the typical image of someone from Meteor City.

Kenda didn't know that Law was actually not from Meteor City. Kenda's faith in him stemmed from the way Law had cared for Ellie and, most importantly, his displayed strength.

After all, no matter what the opinion is, strength is the main factor that is valued.

After they boarded the airship, the airship took off in the rain.

Kenda immediately went for treatment, while Law opted for a hot shower and change of clothes before heading to check on Ellie.

The private airship has an independent medical room and wards, which are quite similar to the hospital environment, and it also spares no expense in utilizing space.

Ellie was lying on a comfortable hospital bed, receiving an IV drip because of her high fever.

Law sat by her bedside, looking at Ellie quietly.

Her little face was pale and bloodless, and she shivered from time to time. Her deeply furrowed brows stirred a pang of sympathy.

'Although Vogt was tasked with taking the collections back to the Elder, the Elder ordered Kuri and Vogt to kill them all. Not only me, but even the spiky-haired man and the horse-faced man were not spared.'

'The news of Barney's death back would certainly dispel the Elder's doubts, but Ellie is not dead. That will be impossible to hide upon our return. Moreover, if I stay with Ellie, it is only a matter of time before I am exposed.'

'If the Elder knew about this, he would realize that Vogt was lying...' As Law pondered, he realized the flaw in the plan of faking his death.

Law mistakenly believed the Elder's orders were to eliminate Barney's group entirely, based on Kuri and Vogt's attempts to kill everyone. He wasn't aware that the primary directive was simply to secure all the collections, with Barney and his people being expendable extras.

Law was not clear about the relationship between the Mafia and Meteor City or the methods of information exchange, so Law knew he needed to discuss this situation with Kenda. He also had to consider how the Elder would react to the fact that he or Ellie was not dead.

As for Meteor City, Law only cared about the safety of Machi and the others. If it weren't for concern over the Elder causing trouble for them, Law wouldn't have even handed over a single piece of the collection to the Elder.

Machi and the others were rapidly growing stronger. Give them a few more months, and not even the Elders would pose a threat. But for now, they were still vulnerable.

The more Law thought about it, the more headache he felt. If his strength were greater, he wouldn't need to deal with all this overthinking. He could just go back to Meteor City, and he believed the Elder wouldn't dare to do anything.

In fact, the Elder only cared about the collections. It doesn't matter whether Law is dead or not. Even if Ellie survives, the elders won't care about it because Barney is already dead.

As long as Barney dies, there will be no one to put pressure on him, and the Mafia in Barney's territory will become a group of jackals, madly dividing the piece of meat left by him. How could anyone be willing to avenge Barney?

The key point is that before going to Yorknew City, Barney's core subordinates had been wiped out in a united attack by old enemies. How could he have the energy to take revenge? This is also why Kenda had turned to Law for help.

Because Law didn't have enough detailed information, his initial assumptions had been misplaced. Dwelling on these issues only created unnecessary complications for himself.

He had even thought about asking Kenda if he had a human skin mask or something, because assassins were so prevalent in this world, it shouldn't be surprising to have a human skin mask as a disguise tool.

Just as Law was lost in these chaotic thoughts, Ellie woke up. She turned her head and looked at Law, who was sitting beside the bed, with mist brewing quietly in her eyes.

Noticing Ellie's gaze, Law snapped out of his reverie and met Ellie's pitiful eyes.

"Law, wouldn't it be better if I just died? That way, fewer people would have to die because of me." Ellie said, her voice trembling with tears.

Law's face darkened when he heard that. He didn't understand why she'd say such a thing. So without hesitation, he stretched out his finger and flicked it hard on Ellie's forehead.

Ellie whimpered in pain, and the tears in her eyes could not be held back and fell.

"Say that again, and I won't be so polite." Law withdrew his hand unhappily.

"But…"

Ellie covered her forehead with her left hand, large tears streaming down her eyes.

"Mom, Kenda, Barney… They're all gone..."

Law sighed in his heart and was about to tell Ellie that Kenda was not dead when the door was opened.

Kenda, who was almost bandaged like a mummy, walked in. He looked at Ellie on the bed, and said, "Miss, I'm still here."

Ellie stared at Kenda blankly, and after a moment, she broke into loud sobs.

The more things of value disappeared from her life, the more precious what remained became. Therefore, the feeling of losing and regaining them is even more indescribable.

There is no fairness from the moment a person is born, and this is especially true in this world.
