Chapter 317: Thunder-Powered Spear, Splintering Greatsword (Part 2)
As the silhouettes of more and more ogres appeared on the city walls, the city already engulfed in panic immediately collapsed. The streets were chaotic, with people fleeing in all directions, cries and calls for help intertwined. The entire city was shrouded in the shadow of despair, as if the apocalypse had arrived.
Rumble—
Accompanied by a deafening explosion like thunder, billowing smoke rose to the south of the city. A figure as daunting and massive as an iron tower emerged from the smoke, gripping the twisted, deformed body of a human knight. It was the ogre leader who had shattered the city gate.
Behind this gigantic ogre, drooling and eager ogres surged like a tide, ready to turn the city into their banquet table.
Although transcendents were still fighting on other city walls and even in the streets of the city, their resistance and struggle seemed like a futile last stand, only adding a bit of interest to the ogres' feast.
This was a monster calamity. As monsters that fed on humans entered the city, the entire city was transformed into purgatory. When the gate was breached, it foretold the fate of the city, yet this city was merely at the border and not isolated.
A ghostly blue light flickered in the sky, then transformed into crisscrossing brilliant lines that constructed a temporary teleportation array in the air, tearing open the space with a roar.
Roar!
A flying dragon with a cold metallic sheen extended its head from the spatial passage, and its steel-clad wings unfolded over the chaotic earth.
Roar! Roar!
One after another, steel-clad flying dragons appeared over the fallen city, their roars echoing the heavens and the earth. Even the ogres, prepared to plunder and feast, were mostly captivated by these unseen flying dragons, as their hunting instincts sensed a mortal danger threatening them.
"Another human contraption?"
The ogre leader who broke the city gate looked up at the dragons overhead. His gaze did not linger on the seemingly extravagant dragons but focused on the knights riding them.
These knights were different from any humans he had seen before; clad from head to toe in heavy armor, they were almost as large as his warriors. The flowing ghost blue light on their armor, interspersed with flickering runes, gave the ogre leader a twinge of dread, but just a twinge.
"Tch~"
Upon seeing thirty-six knights appear above, the ogre leader actually let out a disdainful snort.
Because the portal in the sky had slammed shut, it meant that only those knights above had descended. What could this number of humans do? Watch his minions feast?
The descending magic dragon knights soon demonstrated to the ogres below what they could do.
Flying dragons, covered in steel, circled the city under the knights' command, dropping muted spheres from the dragons' underbelly armor, erupting loudly just before hitting the ground.
Flower after flower of steel and fire bloomed outside the city, along with the blood flowers made of ogre flesh.
The ogres who had not yet entered the city were caught off guard by the sudden bombing and ran like rats; within mere breaths, hundreds of ogres were engulfed in flames. Their hair and skin burned rapidly at high temperatures, releasing shrieks of agony, and a pungent burnt odor filled the sky.
"Damn human contraptions!"
Amidst the dragon bombing, the ogre leader roared in fury. Hearing the wails of his kin outside the city, he grabbed bricks and stones from one side, squeezing them in his hand before hurling them into the sky violently,
"If you have the guts, come down and fight me. I will tear you apart."
"There's an ogre chieftain below provoking us."
"I'll kill it!"
A magic dragon knight gazed coldly at the ogre leader below, who seemed as tiny as an ant. With icy intent in his eyes, he raised a peculiarly shaped spear, aiming its tip downward, and a dazzling aura of energy began to flicker.
Boom—
A cerulean beam descended from the sky, piercing one of the ogre leader's arms amidst his angry roars. His muscles and bones evaporated in an instant; his proud defense and physique offered no resistance against this attack.
"Human contraptions, all you can do is attack from the sky like flying squirrels? If you're males with balls, come down and face me."
Agitated by the pain, the ogre leader grew even more furious, but such an attack barely qualified as a minor injury to him, for his flesh and bones were regenerating at a visible pace.
"Troublesome!"
The magic dragon knight, seeing that the ogre leader below was still making a ruckus, placed his Thunder Spear on the dragon's back, grabbed a great sword, and leaped off the dragon's back.
Thud~
With a heavy thud, a web of cracks spread from where the magic dragon knight landed. Without a word, he gripped a nearly human-height great sword with both hands, producing a hum and sprinted towards the ogre leader, whose expression was twisted with excitement and who was charging forward with heavy steps.
The two contrasting figures intersected in a flash, as time seemed to stand still. In the next moment, the seemingly more advantageous massive figure collapsed heavily, with fountains of rancid blood gushing out.
"Despicable human contraptions!"
In the blink of an eye, having his legs and weapon severed, the ogre leader turned his head, filled with shock and anger, and with confusion,
"Give me one more chance, I could definitely..."
At the fracture of his legs, countless fleshy sprouts writhed like worms. Given time, he could grow another pair of legs.
"So fragile!"
The magic dragon knight turned, single-handedly wielding the great sword, the blade shimmering with an imperceptible halo. It was this light that endowed the seemingly ordinary great sword with the ability to tear through anything.
Splintering Greatsword
It is said that its principle is identical to the spellcasters' Great Fragmentation Technique, hence the name. Whether this is true, the knight didn't know, but he knew it was an extremely effective sword.
Swish~
The knight charged once more, wielding the Splintering Greatsword, beheading the ogre leader as if slicing butter with a hot knife, the knight feeling no resistance.
When the menacing, grimacing head rolled on the ground, the monster was not yet dead. It opened its maw filled with fangs, trying to make a final attack.
Alas, the ogre's supreme humanoid regeneration ability was meaningless in front of this magic dragon knight. The ogre's fangs hadn't even managed to touch the knight's armor when his head was cleaved into eight segments, his body also dismembered.
This was an unequal massacre, yet compared to his kin, the ogre leader was fortunate. At least he could see who killed him; he fell in a face-to-face battle.
The ogres pouring into the city didn't even know from which direction the attacks came; their bodies either pierced or torn apart, they died in a most gruesome manner.
The roars of the flying dragons for the ogres were no different from a Death God's call. Whatever they did, it was futile, and death was inevitable.
The knights, even fewer than the number of ogres, coldly and efficiently harvested the enemies of humanity. In less than half a day, inside and outside the city were strewn with ogre corpses, blood pooling into streams, flowing through the cracks in the ground.
