Sr. Instructor Westnight failed to mention that the line sprints were more than just a warmup exercise. It was a secret selection process with the building's secondary AI running a deep analysis of their speed, stamina, stride length, and ability to reverse direction and comparing it to statistical data collected on all known foot-chased suspects in the last three years.

"Recruits, as one of our few female instructors, had a personal matter to attend to, I have asked for help from one of our top female officers. She is normally on the night shift so unless you want a very personal demonstration of how to tackle a runner, don't come between her and her coffee. After exercise mats were laid out on both ends of the gym floor's open area and a few training dummies were placed around the mats the instructors and Captain Halt started the lecture portion of the day's training.

"Now that we have gone over the various techniques of how to hit them high and low, and how to apply holds once you got them down hopefully without sustaining injuries, it is time to move on to practical training. Cadet Demonbane, I will ask you to go first as you are the platoon leader of the cycle and should strive to set a good example for your peers. I took the liberty of having a special training dummy created just for you. Try not to take offense to it when you turn around."

Zeph turned to see the lifelike training dummy that was just brought up from the industrial 3D printers of the P&A department by a few drones. He had to question who exactly was behind the idea."

"You mad, Cadet Demonbane?"

"No sir, just curious as to who came up with the idea of making a Lilin practice dummy, surely a larger more difficult to subdue Nephilim or half neph. would be a more challenging training tool."

"Our other resident administrator, and the XO. You should know the why, and you will get to be challenged later. Now demonstrate how you get a succubus in handcuffs Cadet."

Zeph let out a wicked grin as he caught the cuffs Sr. Instructor Westnight threw toward him. He certainly was going to demonstrate how to get cuffs on a daughter of Lilith. 

Walking towards where the vaguely Nixi-resembling training dummy was placed on the mats, Zeph twirled the cuffs around his finger. 

"It just a nicely shaped tackle dummy or can it move sir?"

"Training dummys have some basic AI and can reflect the movements of a real suspect to some degree, but the movement function it turned off during the first tackle and cuff practice."

"More like you demonstrated how much the main AI likes you. Go again, and change it to act less cooperative, even if a succubus might actually respond in such a way. Guessing you would know better than I about that."

"Next. Choose a dummy, and remember Mr. Black Badge there made that one able to run around the mats."

After a few rounds of practice tacking stationary and slow moving training dummies the instructors felt that was time for the next block of instruction, as the recruits at least had a basic grip on how to tackle a runner.

"Cadet Demonbane, catch your bunny, and get her in cuffs without hurting either of you, then take a break long enough to go grab me a cup of coffee out of the instructor's lounge. Don't make it easy on him Recruit Carota."

Laxana hopped to her feet and took off like a rabbit trying to escape the jaws of a wolf. Zeph instantly understood the difference between him as a slightly faster than the average adult human with his current strength and stamina stats, and Laxana as Lepus from a prestigious family.

Even with the chase being limited to the expanded area of the floor covered by mats, Zeph was at a clear disadvantage in terms of raw speed and agility. But where Laxana had fast feet, Zeph was faster at thinking on his. While she was aways five steps ahead of him, he was thinking of ten to twenty steps ahead of her fast but predictable movements.

As she spun around and changed directions for what had to be the twentieth time, Zeph waited for the moment that she would run right past him on the outer edge of the mats to make his move.

Zhep had launched himself at Laxana's right leg, cuffs in hand aiming to get one end of them around her ankle while the other end was around his wrist. It was not quite a textbook technique, but as Zeph demonstrated it was an effective solution for dealing with a faster suspect, and he and Laxana were without injuries.

"Okay, if you want to keep her in cuffs do so on your own time with your own cuffs, Cadet. I was not expecting her fo go all out an make you chase her for twenty minutes. Go get my coffee, and buy her a few carrot juices or electrolyte drinks. I am sure that you know what she would prefer."

"Hot or iced sir."

"Hot, unless the XO, or day crew made it."

"Captain, I made it personally. Only reason Commissioner Vaughn is allowed to touch that pot is because he outranks me, and the coffee is paid for out of the academy budget."

"Good. You know how to tackle more than just suspects Cadet Demonbane. I will look past the little incident yesterday, but inform the front desk of her likely return this afternoon. You already demonstrated that your VGPIINNC is not jammed by the measures installed on this floor."

"Don't blame me for all the calls you get when those who are currently on duty report a situation about their pay grade when they see those two. Most of them won't get close enough to run scans."
