Godfire: The Split Soul

Chapter 146: It's B.B.C

"Have my number. I will be there whenever your call comes," Jinx said, smiling.

"You mean anytime?" the driver asked, tilting his head slightly, and squeezing his face into an unsure expression.

"Yeah, anytime," Jinx responded, then relaxed herself in the seat.

Different brands and sizes of cars rolled by the window like shooting stars. The tires of the car rumbled on a slightly dusty road when it reached the western part of the central city, the Nurses Estate.

Jinx exhaled sharply, then dropped down from the car. "Thank you very much." She turned, then stopped. 'What's his name?' she thought, then turned back.

Surprisingly, the car was still there. "Sorry, what name will come when your call comes?" Jinx asked, leaning on the rolled-down window.

"It's B.B.C," the driver said, smiling.

'B.B.C?' Jinx thought, blushing. A soft laugh escaped from her. "B.B.C?" She squeezed her face.

"Yeah. You will know why I'm called that when you come over after I give you the call," the driver said, his thirty-two pure white teeth glistening.

"O-Okay, oooookay," Jinx said, her face reddening. She moved back from the car, watched it leave, then turned.

"B.B.C? I have to know what that name is about." She turned back, glanced at the car now at a far distance, then back at the black door in front of her.

Ding!!!

A bell rang from the inside as she pressed the door alarm button.

Din!!!

She pressed again two consecutive times, then sighed. "Are they asleep, or am I late today too?" She pulled out her S22 from her handbag.

The dark screen lit up when she pressed the power button. "Oh shit! I'm home early." She turned to the road, then once again to the door.

"At least I can rest for a while before they return." She giggled. "I've forgotten Kai doesn't have anywhere to go."

While she waited, footsteps echoed from the other side of the gate. "Who is disturbing my peace?" A security man wearing a blue-and-black uniform walked sluggishly toward the gate, ranting.

His swollen mouth softened the moment he opened the door. "Miss Jinx," he screamed the name aloud, his eyes widening.

"Miss Jinx, why have you forgotten something?" He stood by the door, almost as if he wasn't ready to allow her inside.

"Nah. I am done for the day," Jinx said, tiredness filling her voice.

The security moved aside, allowing her to enter, then went out and back inside in a flash. "But where is the Jeep Madam Lena gifted you?"

Jinx sighed, then brushed a hand on the security's chest. "Two tires got punctured on the way to the Vamus College, so I left it on the roadside."

"Ohh, you should have called me. You know I will do anything for you. Only if it doesn't include death," the security said, then smiled.

His eyes rolled in their sockets as Jinx's finger leaped from his chest.

"I will send you the location where I left it. Call some of your mechanic friends and let them fix it for me, okay?" Jinx brushed her hand once more on the man's chest, then moved away from him.

The inside of the main white-painted mansion was like heaven when she entered. Long couches were arranged like a king's garden.

Jinx walked directly to the kitchen door, neared the fridge, and pulled out a bottle of banana juice.

Glop. Glop. Glop.

She emptied it within a second, then bent down, her fingers wrapping around the bottle.

"Leave that one for me, please."

She stopped, straightened herself, then stared at the owner of the voice. "You want that?" she asked, staring at the blue-and-black-haired boy.

"Yeah, I wanted to grab it, but since the fridge was occupied by you, I decided to wait till you're done," Kai said, sleep dressing his face and voice.

"You mean you were here the whole time, watching me?" Jinx asked, shocked.

"Yeah," Kai answered. He closed in on the fridge as soon as Jinx moved away from it, then grabbed the last banana juice and held it tightly.

'Should I leave it for her? Nah, I made it, so at least I have to have a taste of some.' he thought, then smiled.

"So, what's the schooling, I'm—"

"You've even brought my mind back to it."

'Wait, did she really go there. Fuck, I'm doomed.' Kai's expression collapsed into a depressed one.

"You have been granted admission," she said, extending the envelope to Kai. "And…" She paused, then moved to the electric cooking stove.

She lit the stove and placed a silver bowl on it. "They said you can join there…" 'What's the name the receptionist said?' she thought for a while, then smiled.

"I have forgotten the name, but they said you can join their hunter something-something if you want to." Jinx poured a bottle of water into the now-heated silver bowl.

Piiissssh

The water evaporated the moment it landed in the silver. "Oooooouch." She drew back quickly, her face squeezed.

"Is it the hunter training system for the newly awakened?" Kai asked, feeling dissatisfied.

"Yeah," Jinx confirmed. "Wait." She looked at him with a clinical gaze. "…how did you get to know about that?"

"Don't tell me you've been sneaking out!" She turned off the stove, then folded her arms across her chest.

Kai giggled, scratching his hair with his fingers. 'Should I tell her the other things I got to know from the black market zone? Nah, she will notify Aunty Lena when she returns.'

Kai stood there for a while, thoughts reeling in his head. "Nah, I heard it from today's afternoon news."

"Wow, so you've started watching TV, especially the news. Interesting." Jinx turned back to the stove and turned it on.

Her smiling face turned into a grin. 'You think I'm a fool. We shall see.'

Her grin widened when a car horn sounded from outside. Yellowish tree leaves floated in the air, following the direction of the black BMW as the security guard opened the door.
