Chapter 306
No matter how many treasures a man possessed, no matter how many immortal weapons glittered in his storage ring, there was one thing Zeon believed he could never afford—the heart of a beautiful woman.
Solara, standing right beside Ethan, sniffed softly. She could smell the gentle fragrance clinging to the woman still wrapped around her father.
Her bright eyes widened, forming a perfect round "O" as shock overtook her tiny face. She stared at the scene as though she had just witnessed a phoenix drinking tea with a dragon.
Rain, however, was not shocked.
Rain was angry.
Her expression became stern, her voice silent but her aura roaring. She stared daggers at the woman embracing Ethan, her fingers curling into tight fists. Her nostrils flared—ever so slightly, yet full of suppressed fury.
What does this woman think she's doing?
Rain had not even brushed Ethan's fingertips, yet this newcomer dared pounce upon him like a long-lost wife returning from war.
Did she believe Rain was invisible? Insignificant? Replaceable?
The more Rain thought about it, the angrier she became. Her nostrils flared wider.
"She's pretty, yes, but I'm not lacking," Rain muttered internally.
A phrase drifted through her mind:
When I was young, I didn't know how good my sister was, and I mistook a random girl for a treasure.
Her eyes narrowed sharply.
"Brother Ethan, once you taste the sweetness of your sister, you will never miss this woman again," Rain thought, confidence flooding her heart.
Rain was not afraid of rivals. The more women desired Ethan, the more valuable her taste appeared.
Meanwhile, Ethan and Althea remained locked in an embrace that lasted far too long for Rain's comfort. Neither moved. Neither blinked. Neither released the other.
Rain could take no more.
"Cough! Cough! Cough!"
"Everyone, it's getting late. It's time to attend the Treasure Appraisal Conference!"
Her voice sliced through the moment like a sword.
Ethan blinked and Althea slowly loosened her hold. The blush on her cheeks faded slightly, yet her expression remained flushed and dreamy. She looked like a budding flower brushed by spring wind—fragile, fragrant, alluring.
"Yes… yes, I'm participating in the treasure appraisal conference," Althea murmured, still dazed.
"Let's go," Roan agreed hastily, his ears red.
The others coughed awkwardly, eyes drifting away.
Magnus walked past Zeon and whispered without emotion, "Stop looking. Envy won't help."
"You—!" Zeon nearly exploded.
"I am furious!"
He stamped his foot and chased Magnus. "Big guy! Don't leave! See if I don't suppress you without needing an immortal weapon!"
One by one, everyone drifted out, leaving Ethan and Althea in a strangely intimate silence.
Everyone—except Rain.
Rain refused to leave.
She stood firmly at Ethan's side, expression unreadable but eyes sharp. This pair looked like lovers reunited after years apart. If Rain left them alone...
A spark could ignite into a wildfire.
Rain would never allow it.
She crossed her arms and asked with a cool tone:
"Althea, do you know the shopkeeper's name?"
Althea finally looked at Rain properly and understood—this woman was a rival.
"Rain," she corrected gently. "Just call me Sister Rain."
Rain lifted her chin proudly.
"Okay, Shopkeeper Rain."
Althea smiled sweetly.
Rain's eyebrow twitched.
The air thickened with feminine hostility.
At that moment, Solara suddenly spoke up.
"Dad, who is this beautiful sister?"
"Dad?"
"(ΩДΩ)!"
Althea froze like someone struck by a heavenly thunder. Her pupils dilated, and her breath caught.
Only after several moments did she recover, patting her chest to steady herself. She crouched to examine Solara closely.
This girl looked thirteen or fourteen. Ethan had not been gone from the sect for even a full year. How could he have such a grown daughter?
Not only that—Althea sensed a blazing fire attribute rolling through Solara's body. This was no ordinary girl. This was a Mahayana realm existence.
A terrifying realization.
"Little sister, who is your mother?" Althea asked, smiling gently.
"I don't have a mother. I only have a father," Solara answered sweetly, glancing proudly at Ethan.
Althea slowly raised her head to stare at Ethan.
Her eyes demanded answers.
Why did her Junior Brother Ethan have a full-grown daughter?
"Senior sister, Solara is my adopted spiritual pet," Ethan explained through voice transmission.
"Spiritual pet?"
Althea blinked.
She examined Solara again—this time with new understanding.
Yes. She was a ninth-level monster, newly advanced. Even newly ascended, she possessed strength enough to crush a typical Fifth-Turn Mahayana cultivator. As Ethan's companion, she was an extraordinary helper.
Before Althea could speak again, Solara clasped her hands and declared boldly:
"Sister, please be my mother."
Ethan, Althea, and Rain froze.
Three pairs of eyes widened like lanterns.
Althea pressed a hand over her mouth, a soft laugh slipping out. She rubbed Solara's head affectionately—then glanced at Ethan, her eyes carrying meanings words could not hold.
Ethan did not speak.
He only smiled.
That was enough.
Rain, on the other hand, nearly combusted.
For so long she had fed Solara delicacies, pampered her, spoiled her—only for the girl to turn and choose someone else as "mother"?
Unacceptable!
"Solara, have you forgotten about Aunt Rain?" she asked, tightening her arms.
"No," Solara replied innocently. "You are my aunt. She is my mother. And this is my father."
"…."
Rain's eyelid twitched. She did not want to be an aunt!
Rain forced a smile and asked stiffly:
"I don't know where Miss Althea was born. How did she just enter Mahayana?"
Althea smiled. "I am from the Azure Origin Dao Sect, and I am Ethan's senior sister. We have known each other for a long time, and I can't remember how many years."
Rain staggered internally.
Azure Origin Dao Sect — the closest in proximity.
Senior sister and junior brother — daily familiarity.
Known each other for many years — childhood sweethearts.
This information crashed down upon Rain like collapsing mountains. For a moment, she could not breathe. She nearly retreated—nearly surrendered.
But then, Rain shook her head fiercely and cast the weakness away.
She liked challenges.
A man too easy to win was worthless.
"I see. Since you are very young, just call me Sister Rain."
"Okay, Shopkeeper Rain," Althea replied with a smile.
"…."
Rain's jaw tensed.
Tension crackled again.
Ethan quickly intervened.
"It's getting late. It's time to attend the treasure appraisal conference."
He glanced outside—the sky was darkening.
The conference would begin soon. Late arrivals would find no seats.
"Okay, Brother Ethan, let's go," Rain said quickly, stepping to his side and smiling triumphantly at Althea.
Her gaze clearly said, Look, I have a close relationship with Ethan.
Althea frowned slightly when she heard Rain's tone.
But her expression immediately returned to calm.
