Chapter 168

A flicker of realization passed through Lyralei's eyes as she acknowledged her earlier loss of composure. Her expression hardened, regaining its usual poise.

"The seniors from the Demon Sealing Cave are indeed following her in secret to provide protection... That makes sense," she admitted softly. The weight of responsibility still hung heavy on her, but her calm tone reassured those gathered.

She then continued with measured gravity, "Everyone present must have heard of the Myriad Treasures Pavilion. It is a mysterious and formidable force within the Oceanreach Continent—a vast organization dedicated to the trade and auctioning of cultivation resources. Once again, they will hold their Treasure Appraisal Conference in our Skyreach Territory."

"This conference is not merely a grand market but an event of immense prestige—an auction where rare, precious treasures are unveiled. There have even been sightings of Mahayana pills and other extraordinary items offered. Naturally, our Azure Origin Dao Sect cannot afford to miss such an occasion."

Her voice dropped slightly as she added a note of caution. "However, in recent years, the Black Demon Sect has cast an envious eye upon us. The Wisteria Cloud Valley acts like a jackal coveting the heritage left by our sect. If we dispatch too many representatives to Noble Sun City this time, it risks an attack from the Wisteria Cloud Valley in our absence."

Lyralei's gaze swept across the peak masters and elders assembled. "Therefore, I pose this question to you—how many and which among us should be sent to Noble Sun City to participate in this Treasure Appraisal Conference?"

A low murmur of discussions began as the elders exchanged opinions, their voices rising in speculative debate. None could settle on the perfect answer.

Suddenly, a chilling voice cut through the room's clamor.

"Master, allow this disciple to attend!"

All eyes turned toward the entrance.

There stood Seraphina.

Draped in a long blue gown, her delicate and flawless features shone under the light, her cold brows furrowed slightly.

While the fierce aura that once hardened her like an iceberg remained, the countless hardships she endured had softened her pride.

Now, Seraphina radiated a refreshed and approachable spirit—a beacon of progress and resilience that rejuvenated those around her.

"She has truly perfected her Ice Spirit Soul Body and has ascended to the Tribulation Transcendence realm!" one elder whispered in awe.

"A rapid surge in cultivation, indeed," another remarked.

"The Saintess has awoken her potential. Together with Ethan, the Azure Origin Dao Sect will rise as the dominant force among the Four Great Sects—perhaps even becoming a super giant. The moment is near!"

A restless whisper flickered across the hall. "But... why hasn't Ethan come?"

Lyralei eyed Seraphina, noting the profound changes in her apprentice.

Not only had she reached the perfect state of the Ice Spirit Soul Body, but her Tribulation Transcendence cultivation attained the threshold of the Sword Intent.

It was clear that Seraphina had overcome her inner demons, and her cultivation, along with her Heart Sutra, had undergone a majestic sublimation.

With such momentum sustained, Ethan's lead was not insurmountable, and the hope of surpassing him in future remained alive.

"Seraphina," Lyralei remarked, her smile tinged with satisfaction, "your teacher is proud of your achievements."

"Since my last retreat, Master, I have gained many insights," Seraphina replied, bowing respectfully. "The timing of the Treasure Appraisal Conference is fortuitous; I wish to attend."

"There will be a gathering of outstanding geniuses, and the disciples eagerly yearn to witness the world beyond," she added earnestly.

Lyralei turned her gaze back to the elders. "What are your opinions for Seraphina's participation?"

A chorus of "I think it's appropriate" arose.

"Considering Her Majesty's strength, she stands no weaker than the Sixth Prince of Vernal Dawn from that time. She is fit to represent our sect at the conference."

"But merely sending Seraphina is insufficient," a voice cautioned.

"Ethan must accompany her. We should dispatch at least fifteen cultivators—two of whom must be cultivators of the Mahayana Realm."

"The conference will be saturated with powerful sects and formidable individuals. Sending only juniors would be folly."

The Peak Master of Crimson Fire Peak voiced this with conviction.

Lyralei's voice interrupted the debate sharply. "Ethan is to be excluded."

"Why?" a puzzled elder questioned.

"Without the sect's permission, Ethan has left. His whereabouts are unknown," Lyralei replied coldly.

A hush fell. Even Seraphina's eyes widened briefly at this unexpected news.

She couldn't understand why Ethan would depart during such a critical time.

Despite killing Adyr without the sect's consent and causing turmoil, no reprimand followed. So why would he leave without word?

Edwin, spoke. "I'm unsure when or if Ethan will return."

"The treasure conference is nearly half a year away. There's no need to rush our decisions. Perhaps we should wait until Ethan's return."

Having recently passed his first Mahayana Tribulation and entering the Mahayana Realm, Edwin's counsel carried weight.

Lyralei's expression darkened. "He probably won't come back."

"Wh-what?!" Shock rippled through the assembly.

Confusion and disbelief were etched across every face.

Whispers gave way to accusations.

"Hmph! Ethan is an ungrateful white-eyed wolf!"

An unknown voice scolded harshly.

"The sect treated Ethan with kindness. The Supreme Elder accepted him personally and granted him the Purple Dragon Token. The Empress even allowed him access to the inheritance place."

"And yesterday, he killed Adyr without permission. Yet no one criticized him."

"Now, he runs away with the sect's ultimate inheritance! What kind of game is this?"

"I say we dispatch forces to capture Ethan immediately and imprison him in the Serene Mirror Lake to reflect on his actions!"

One voice after another echoed in agreement.

The elders debated fiercely, their disdain for Ethan unanimous.

Amid the tumult, Edwin's voice called for order. "Ethan has left the Azure Origin Dao Sect. We all bear responsibility."

Peak Master Crimson Pine remarked grimly, "He was confined for fifty years. Its not strange that his heart remains so cold."

"Is all this talk meaningful now?"

"Rather than gossip, wouldn't capturing Ethan be the best course? After all, he carries the Ultimate inheritance of our sect!"

"Catch Ethan?"

"Do you even know where he is?"

"Adyr was powerless against Ethan. Do you truly believe you can subdue him?"

"Enough!"

Lyralei's voice boomed, anger flaring at the mere mention of Ethan.

"But what can we do?"

"As Edwin said, even I doubt I could retrieve Ethan with my own strength."

She scoffed disdainfully. "Let him go if he wishes. Can the Azure Origin Dao Sect not thrive without him?"

A heavy silence fell.

Seraphina clutched her fists, frustration bubbling beneath her composed exterior.

"This... that brat!"
