Chapter 140

"Haha! Where's Ethan? Does he even have the guts to face me?" Kai shouted, his laughter echoing across the skies. The sound carried his arrogance like a wave, sharp enough to agitate the protective barriers around the Azure Origin Dao Sect.

Althea's cold gaze cut through his boasting like a blade. Her fingers twitched in restraint; were it not for her position controlling the defensive formation, that boy's arrogance would have been silenced permanently.

She simply frowned, saying nothing, though her suppressed spiritual energy surged faintly—the air shivered around her like a drawn bow ready to release.

Kai sneered, mistaking her silence for fear. "Haha, look at that! Even the great Althea is terrified! Your precious Ethan must be a coward if he won't show his face. I'm not even at the Void Amalgamation Realm yet, and he dares not challenge me?"

He spread his arms wide, voice dripping with disdain. "Where is he? Or is he still licking his wounds from fighting Bram yesterday?"

Obsidian Howl, stroking his long white beard, narrowed his gaze toward the inheritance valley. A glint of cunning flashed in his eyes. "Ah… the tremors, the golden beam piercing the heavens… could it be Ethan himself causing such disturbance?"

Cold winds rustled through Lyralei's crimson robes as she inhaled deeply. Her patience slipped away like melting frost.

"So what if it is?" Her tone was flat, but killing intent seeped beneath her words. "And even if it's not, what of it?"

Before Obsidian could respond, Lyralei's aura erupted violently, surging upward like a volcano long held dormant. A crimson radiance bathed the ground. The power of a nearing seventh-turn Mahayana realm surged out, shaking the clouds.

Sensing her murderous intent, Obsidian chuckled darkly. "So it's true then. He's inside, isn't he? That boy who just entered your inheritance..." His lips curved into a sinister smile.

"Then as his trial unfolds, allow me to provide... complications."

As he spread his hands, the spiritual pressure from his body deepened—a signal flare for trouble yet to come.

Suddenly, two streaks of light shot across the horizon from the east, bursting through the mist like twin meteors.

They landed beside Obsidian, revealing a man and a woman in elegant purple garments.

The woman's beauty was striking, her figure graceful, her presence commanding. Her golden eyes gleamed with hidden calculation. Her name—the infamous _Wisteria Veil_, Valley Master of Wisteria Cloud Valley. A Mahayana expert of three turns, known for her cold ruthlessness.

Beside her stood a handsome man, his features sharp yet cold, carrying the same regal bearing—Wisteria Gale, her brother and right hand, a powerful cultivator of the two-turn Mahayana realm.

Seeing them arrive, Lyralei's expression hardened like the surface of tempered glass. "So, Wisteria Cloud Valley sends its Lord and her brother. Tell me," her voice cut through the still air, "are you declaring war upon my Azure Origin Dao Sect today?"

"It's not war," Wisteria Veil replied coldly, her noble demeanor like ice on steel. "We simply came to cause... a little trouble."

The tension between the two women ignited instantly, even before their auras collided. These two had been rivals since youth—beauty, talent, leadership, all reasons for comparison.

But Lyralei had always stood one step higher. The burn of envy still lingered in Wisteria Veil's proud heart.

"You dare?" Lyralei's fingers twitched, the edge of her aura rippling.

"You think you're still unchallenged?" Wisteria Veil snapped back, flickers of violet energy sparking around her body. Beside her, her brother crossed his arms, his smirk mirroring her confidence.

But before any spell could manifest, a voice snapped through the air like the crack of thunder.

"Do you really think our Azure Origin Dao Sect has no one?!"

In an instant, a figure appeared beside Lyralei. His back was slightly hunched, his face shadowed by age, but the light in his eyes was sharp enough to pierce the heavens.

"Mr. Stone!" Lyralei exhaled in relief, stepping aside as the ancient elder of their sect emerged, his aura surging forward with a terrifying presence.

Even Obsidian's mocking grin faltered. The centuries-old master of the Azure Origin Dao sect and spiritual might—thought dead after the battle with the Black Demon Sect—still lived. And still burned with unimaginable strength.

"Obsidian Howl," Mr. Stone said evenly, every syllable resonating with contained fury, "since you came so arrogantly to my doorstep… then stay."

Before Obsidian could conjure a retort, waves of killing intent poured from the old man like a crashing tide. The ground cracked beneath his feet, space itself trembling.

"Mr. Stone, that boy," Lyralei said through spiritual transmission, "he bears the Pure Spirit body."

Mr. Stone's gaze turned toward Kai; his eyes sharpened like drawn blades. His tone deepened.

"Pure Spirit Body…" His whisper turned to a growl. "The first of the Ten Ancient Physiques. Comparable even to the Saint Bodies itself."

This revelation changed the air entirely. Even Lyralei, strong as she was, frowned grimly.

The Pure Spirit Body was legendary—the pinnacle of Ancient Spiritual bodies. Such beings transformed the world's spiritual energy into pure essence, cultivating faster and more efficiently than anyone else alive.

Once awakened, their spiritual power could leap realms in battle, sometimes advancing entire stages at once. legends told of cultivators with this body who, at the Tribulation Realm, jumped directly into Great Perfection, defying natural limits themselves.

Kai felt the chill of Mr. Stone's stare slide down his spine.

But before he could respond, his master—ever pragmatic—caught the danger immediately.

Obsidian's experienced instincts screamed. _No victory could come from provoking this man._

He glanced sideways, and in the subtlest flick of his gaze, signaled to his companions.

Wisteria Veil and Wisteria Gale understood immediately.

Their mission today was already accomplished.

They had achieved two things—testing the Azure Origin Dao Sect's strength and forcing its hidden experts to emerge.

Now, escape was essential.

"Retreat!" Obsidian barked sharply.

He bit the tip of his tongue, spitting two drops of blood essence that ignited into blue flames. In the blink of an eye, both he and Kai turned into twin streaks of azure light and shot into the sky, disappearing before Mr. Stone's aura could fully lock onto them.

At the same moment, Wisteria Veil and her brother, equally decisive, performed the same escape art. Their figures blurred, dissolving into violet lines before vanishing over the horizon.

Lyralei cursed softly, frustration evident. "Those snakes were ready for this from the start."

Her expression darkened. "They didn't come to fight—they came to gauge our defenses."

Mr. Stone, his aura slowly retracting, nodded. "Indeed. They've achieved their goal. Once Wisteria Cloud Valley fully assesses our strength, they'll move. War will follow soon."

His aged voice carried a quiet gravity. "Lyralei… the Skyreach Territory has slept in peace for a century. But the winds are shifting. Storms are brewing once more."

His gaze turned distant, falling on the horizon, where the golden pillar of energy from the inheritance ground continued to burn bright.

"There are threats from three major sects ahead," he muttered. "Wisteria Cloud Valley to our flank. And behind us, the Black Demon Sect festers still in Blackspire Mountain. Azure Origin stands surrounded by predators."

Pausing, he cast a long look at the inheritance place where Ethan continued his trial. A hint of solace flickered in his eyes.

"But from this point forward," he said softly, "whether the Dao Sect ascends again or vanishes forever… depends entirely on _that_ one man."

Lyralei followed his gaze, expression calm yet resolute. She knew exactly to whom he referred.

"I see."
