God of Technology: Creating the Internet in Another World

Chapter 159: War Festival

The holy army had been launching scattered battles across the Southern territories for a while now, and pretty much every lord from the other six duchies of the Kingdom of Dawn, plus the plains around the capital, had been sending aid to the South.

Maybe it was because they were charging a hefty price for that aid, but tons of lords had thrown everything they had into it, leaving their own territories kinda exposed.

Even though the Kingdom of Dawn didn't have a huge following of the God of War—most folks worshipped the God of Light—this whole situation still kicked up a massive storm.

War started spreading across the entire kingdom, and basically every territory got hit hard.

There were guardian knights betraying their own lands left and right, and sometimes you'd even see something like what happened in the Gray Fort Empire—regular believers of the God of War taking to the streets and causing trouble. Thing is, these ordinary believers couldn't really pull together much power, so they got shut down pretty quick. But that was only because those areas didn't have much of a war vibe going on, and not many people worshipped the God of War there. Once this weird wave of influence spread to the border regions and up north where they had to deal with the ice spirits, things got way more serious.

"Dammit! Where the hell did all these people come from?! If something really goes wrong and the Count comes back, how are we supposed to face him?!"

At Herrick territory—ruled by Wolf General Lucina Herrick and sitting on the front line against the ice spirits—the number of people who worshipped the God of War was, well, pretty massive.

Didn't matter if you were talking about regular folks or soldiers, it was all the same. A few minutes after that wave swept through, the whole territory went nuts.

While the guardian knights were using Magic Conductors to deal with these crazed lunatics, they were also reporting back to Lucina through the Magic Net about what was going down. But honestly, they didn't even know what to write. They couldn't figure out why things had suddenly gotten this bad, or why all these people were losing their minds!

Compared to the chaos everywhere else, the Teylir Emirates territory that Lucina had taken over was actually totally peaceful, which was kinda insane. The way the Church of Technology had grown in that area was honestly mind-blowing.

Lately, besides spreading the faith, wiping out bandits, and taking out some stubborn nobles, Lucina had spent basically all her time on missionary work. She'd give the regular people at the bottom—folks who'd been stripped clean by their "own people"—some basic food, then have them pray to the God of Technology. That was it. They didn't even have many Magic Conductors out there, so most people in that region only knew about them as those weird things that made loud booming noises and shot out flames that one time.

But even so, when that strange wave passed through this land where the God of War used to be the only faith, nothing happened. Not a damn thing.

Meanwhile, over in the western part of the Teylir Emirates that the beastmen still controlled, once that wave swept through, the whole place went wild.

It was like the entire Teylir Emirates lost it all at once. Everyone's eyes turned blood red, especially the soldiers stationed around Red Leaf Forest who were supposed to be facing off against Lucina.

Lucina looked at the messages coming in from her territory, checked out the weird stuff popping up in various group chats, and read through the Magic Space where people were guessing that something major must've changed with the Church of War. A wave of worry washed over her.

"Assemble! Watch out for a sneak attack from the Teylir Emirates!"

There's no such thing as two identical people in this world, but there sure are identical events.

Similar stuff was going down all along the border between the Gray Fort Empire and the Kingdom of Dawn.

Maybe it was because the God of War was basically the state religion of the Gray Fort Empire, but the Kingdom of Dawn's garrison didn't have a single believer of the God of War—they'd been carefully screened. Especially lately, with the missionary knight orders and holy army constantly clashing in the rear, they'd done another round of screening to make absolutely sure.

But on the Gray Fort Empire's side? Pretty much everyone was a believer.

After that weird atmosphere passed, the Northern Grand Duke of the Gray Fort Empire had already gotten a bad feeling and rushed out. "Dammit, isn't the festival supposed to be tomorrow?!"

He'd actually guessed that the Church of War would pull something on the festival day, so he'd gone to bed early, trying to rest up to deal with whatever might happen tomorrow. But he never expected the Church of War would make their move today!

"What?! Gone?! How is that possible?!"

The Northern Grand Duke had just wanted to check on his troops when he found the entire barracks completely empty. Not a single person.

Moving armies on such a massive scale, and he hadn't noticed a thing.

A bone-chilling feeling crept over him.

Deep down, he had a pretty good idea of what the Church of War was really trying to do.

Through all those blood sacrifices over this time—offering up countless clerics—the Church of War had influenced every commander who believed in the God of War, making them lose their minds. And what they were doing right now was obviously... launching an attack on the Kingdom of Dawn!

The Church of War wanted to start a massive war on festival day!

Dammit!

These lunatics!

The Northern Duke cursed in his mind, but his body didn't slow down one bit as he rushed toward the nearby hidden magic legion. The Gray Fort Emperor had recently sent most of the magic legion's forces here specifically to keep these potentially problematic armies in check. Only now... it looked like they hadn't been able to warn anyone either.

Still, no matter what, they shouldn't be affected by the Church of War, right... right?!

In the capital of the Gray Fort Empire.

Inside the palace.

The Gray Fort Emperor's expression finally showed a huge change. "The situation is beyond what we expected."

After all these years, this was the first time he'd felt pressure this massive. They'd thought about the Church of War causing trouble on festival day, figured there might be large-scale riots, maybe even war. So they'd made plenty of moves to prepare for those possibilities, including deploying the continent's only magician legion. But when reports from everywhere came streaming back through the Magic Net, he realized the situation had gone way, way beyond their estimates.

"The God of War... can actually do something like this!" His heir's face was full of shock right now too.

"We knew the Church of War had problems, knew they'd definitely cause trouble, knew some commanders had issues, but we never thought... that all the believers could be mobilized. Looks like they conducted even larger-scale blood sacrifices in places we didn't know about... Wait! The Southern territories of the Kingdom of Dawn! Damn it, they're using the South as their main blood sacrifice, and using the holy army to simulate an outbreak of war. The cleric blood sacrifices in our country were just for receiving the influence! Dammit, does the God of War really need a war this badly?!"

"So for tomorrow's festival, should we try to stop it?"
