Chapter 251: Invitation Letter
On this day, Chen Guan had just arrived at the riverside when he suddenly felt someone's gaze on him. He frowned slightly but ignored it, continuing to fish.
Before long, he heard footsteps approaching, and two people came to a stop not far behind him.
"Chen Guan."
Hearing his name called by the people who stopped behind him, Chen Guan finally turned his head to look.
He saw a man and a woman. The man was handsome but had a somewhat aloof demeanor, making him seem difficult to approach.
The woman wore a purple robe, and her waist-to-hip ratio was such that any man would find it hard to resist taking a few more glances.
So Chen Guan also took a couple of extra looks, internally admiring, "Purple is still the best color."
"Do you like it?" The purple-robed woman subtly shifted her long legs, revealing glimpses of her white thighs from under the robe, making it even harder to look away.
"Have we met before?" Chen Guan shifted his gaze to the woman's face.
It's fine to notice someone's appearance at first, but staring too long could come off as impolite.
Purple Robe exchanged a glance with Gu Shan, and Gu Shan spoke, "Nice observation. We also participated in the betting game of the Eight Kings."
"What do you want with me?" Chen Guan asked.
"We are disciples of the Dushan Sect; I am Gu Shan and she is Purple Robe. We are here to invite you to visit our sect and attend a grand gathering," Gu Shan said.
"Dushan Sect? King of Du's Dushan Sect?" Chen Guan frowned slightly.
The King of Du was quite an outlier among the Ten Celestial Kings. While others built families and armies, establishing their own domains,
he, despite having his own influence, didn't establish a family or an army but instead founded a sect, namely the Dushan Sect.
Dushan Sect accepts people of all types, regardless of their background, but fits them if they seem pleasing to the eye.
If you catch their fancy, it doesn't matter what your background or talent is; if the elder likes you, you can join the Dushan Sect.
If you don't catch their fancy, even if you're the child of a Celestial King or a Chief Judge's daughter, you still can't join the Dushan Sect.
Yet, those who manage to seem pleasing to the Dushan Sect are indeed few.
Therefore, the Dushan Sect's people are few, and they don't have an exclusive secret realm; they've merely established their mountain gate within some public secret realms.
Those accepted into the Dushan Sect can enjoy the resources of the Independent Sect, which naturally are brought in by the King of Du.
For an ordinary person, joining the Dushan Sect is like having ancestral blessings.
It's just that the average person really can't capture the attention of the Dushan Sect, yet most of the disciples they accept tend to be ordinary people, a true contradiction.
Chen Guan had even considered in the past that if he had no development opportunities, he might try his luck with the Dushan Sect.
Later, he gained the favor of Ji Nanhong and the chance to join the Celestial Court Army, so he never considered the Dushan Sect again.
"What is this gathering about? Why do you want me to attend?" Chen Guan was even more puzzled.
Purple Robe smiled and said, "You should know about the existence of the Secret God's descendant, right?"
"Yes, I am aware." Chen Guan nodded.
"Our sect has a pet descended from a Secret God that needs an inheritor. Hence, we have organized a pet inheritance gathering, inviting young geniuses with sufficient talent and fortune. We aim to choose someone from among them to inherit the Secret God's descendant pet," Purple Robe explained.
Chen Guan looked at Purple Robe, wondering if she was joking with him or speaking of something utterly unbelievable.
They have a pet descended from a Secret God within their sect, and instead of keeping it well or passing it to their disciples, they seek someone outside for the inheritance. Where would you find such people and such situations in the world?
Chen Guan felt that something was definitely off here; how could fortune just fall from the sky? And even if it did, it would likely be someone using it as a weapon; you wouldn't end up with the fortune but might get hit by it.
"I appreciate the invitation, but I'm not interested in pet care. I even let my own pet run wild," Chen Guan said, pointing to Warring States, who was merrily rolling around on the muddy ground nearby.
Gu Shan and Purple Robe exchanged glances, and Gu Shan spoke, "I know you don't believe us, but you should have heard about the King of Du's disposition, right? His Majesty always keeps his word. If he says it's an inheritance pet, then it's an inheritance pet. There are absolutely no other intentions."
After a pause, Gu Shan continued, "The reason we're choosing someone outside to inherit the Secret God's descendant pet is that this pet is quite peculiar. Most people can't keep it alive. If we keep trying, this pet will soon perish. Our sect doesn't want to see it die, so we want to find someone who can keep it alive."
"A pet at the Secret God Level, but you can't keep it alive? How does that make sense?" Chen Guan thought their story was becoming more and more far-fetched; how could a Secret God pet not be kept alive?
Let alone a Secret God pet, even the most ordinary pets usually don't die from being kept; they usually fall in battle.
"This Secret God pet has a special state known as 'Short-Lived Beauty.' Without the protection of someone with great fortune, it's difficult for it to survive. Our sect has tried every method, exhausted every means, and yet we've only kept it alive for less than two years. It is now on its last breath and could die at any moment, so reluctantly, we've opted for this last resort," Gu Shan said. "I believe you are someone of great fortune. If you could adopt this pet, it would certainly be mutually beneficial, enhancing each other. Under your strong protection, it would surely be revitalized, and you would gain a powerful pet to assist you, greatly aiding your future endeavors."
"Aside from me, who else have you invited to attend?" Chen Guan, half-doubtful, still found it hard to believe.
"Your acquaintances Jiang Qiemo, Duan Shulin, Ji Nanhong, Xiu Jie Ming, and others are on our invitation list. Whether they'll actually attend is uncertain," Purple Robe said.
"Also, many talents from the Ten Celestial Kings and the Ancestral Court, as well as other young geniuses with ordinary backgrounds but outstanding talent and fortune, are among those invited…" Gu Shan added.
Chen Guan inquired about the location and time of the Dushan Sect's gathering, accepted the invitation letter, but didn't commit to going.
"The place itself is not somewhere unsavory, but is the Dushan Sect truly that generous? With other people, even if their pet were to die, they wouldn't possibly transfer it to others. But with the Dushan Sect and King of Du, you really can't be sure," Chen Guan pondered to himself.
When Chen Guan returned to the camp, he saw his soldiers spontaneously saluting him; now, Chen Guan's reputation even surpassed that of Ji Nanhong, the Corps Commander, making him almost the spiritual leader of the Qilin Corps.
Back in his temporary tent, he hadn't even settled in yet when Duan Shulin came over, as he had also received the invitation from the Dushan Sect.
