Chapter 178: A lazy, but powerful man.

Drake was a peculiar student; his laziness made him always want to do the bare minimum. Even in training, he was like that.

He used to take things easy and believed that moving around a lot was a waste of energy. That's why he used to try to mediate things by talking.

That's why he's the most peculiar of the three stars, but he's really a dangerous guy.

Like the other two stars, he is a magician. But not just any magician.

He is one of the few magicians at the academy who has two main teachers. Professor Niles, who teaches him magic in general for the main elements.

And a peculiar teacher who teaches him the most peculiar and unique element: the Element of Void/Shadow.

Being someone with strong compatibility with this element, he is one of the academy's treasures in his own right, as there are few who possess it.

Louis had heard of him before, Drake, the Umbraes Follower, a member of one of the Great Noble Houses, House Jones.

Once he finished stretching, he yawned a little and then clenched his hands.

"Well, I think I'm ready," he said and looked at Louis. "I hope the Habsburg boy isn't upset about the wait."

"Go ahead. The longer you spend there, the better for me," Louis smiled.

He blinked for a moment, trying to understand what he meant, and soon realized.

"Oh, right. The recovery." He nodded. "Well, do you want to wait longer? I'm in no hurry," he suggested.

He was truly carefree.

"Although I'd like to wait longer, if the heavyweights get angry, they could disqualify us. So we'll just wait for you," Louis replied, pointing to the referee, who was also waiting for Drake to finish the strange preparations he was making.

If it weren't for the fact that this fight was important and had to be entertaining, he would have started it a while ago so that Louis would knock him out of the fight.

He had always hated refereeing fights like this because they were always so... slow, and this one was no exception.

"Oh, right. A lot of big guys came here." He nodded. "Well, go ahead. I'm ready," he said, pulling a small dark scepter from his inventory.

The referee made sure his words were true so he could start the fight.

"Begin!"

But, naturally, neither of them moved.

"You know, I thought you'd attack me right away to take me out. Everyone usually does," Drake said suddenly.

"I'm not suicidal, I can assure you," Louis said jokingly.

"Haha, so you've noticed. Very well. Then I won't hold back," he replied firmly and waved his hand with his scepter in front of him, making an arc.

The bow formed several fabrics in the air, which flashed with fire magic.

"You know, I've been too lazy to make fabrics these days. So I had to go out and buy them. They cost me more than 15,000 Jens each, so don't dodge them, it would be a waste of money," Drake said with a sigh. He was clearly serious.

These four fabrics soon unleashed the magic they were created for, one after another, but not all the same.

They were four different magical variations.

One was a fireball, another was an arrow, another was an oriental dragon-like beast, and the last one looked like a prison. All formed from fire and launched at different speeds and at different times.

They had a wide range, covering almost the entire region where Louis was when they exploded, so it seemed inevitable that they would affect him in some way.

"That's good." Louis began to run to one side.

"Tsk." Drake looked frustrated when he saw that Louis was going to dodge his magic.

"What a waste of money," he thought.

But his hand moved quickly, making a strange movement with his scepter.

This caused three of the four spells to grow in size and guided the fourth (the arrow) towards Louis.

"Are they going to explode?" Instinctively, Louis pulled out his gun, not wanting to let these level 3 spells explode.

They were powerful.

So he moved his hand sharply toward the magic and fired an accurate magic shot.

Suddenly, the expanding magic shrank and exploded backward, away from Louis, forming an arc of fire that was dispersed by the strong gale of Louis's level 3 magic.

"Could you do that?" Louis was excited to discover a new function and fired three more shots in quick succession.

Two dispersed the expanding spells that seemed to want to explode. The other collided head-on with the arrow.

The power of one pushed the other, and the arrow split in half, finally dispersing.

Drake watched this in shock. "I didn't know you could shoot magic at magic to disperse it. Isn't that very convenient? You could practically disperse all the magic aimed at you." He complained.

"Hehe, I had no idea either. But I guess there's a first time for everything." Louis smiled, running towards him and aiming at him.

PAM*

But his bullet was met with magic that Drake created immediately, which destroyed itself as soon as it made contact with the bullet. Even so, one thing stopped the other and nothing happened.

"Is that possible too? Damn, you guys are broken. I really underestimated you." Drake replied with a long sigh of complaint, but he wasted no time creating other spells and casting them.

He took the opportunity to move into a better position against Louis' barrage of shots, which continued to scatter his spells and occasionally forced him to create spells to defend himself.

"He has a lot of combat experience and too much accuracy," Louis thought.

The problem he saw was that he wasn't as fast at shooting as he thought. This guy's spell-casting ability was amazing, giving him a good advantage in this regard, even though they were both fighting with pre-made spells.

But he could cast them very quickly, faster than his bullets could fly. So he managed to intercept them all and even attack him, while if Louis didn't neglect one of the spells that tried to throw him out of the arena, he couldn't shoot him.

Even so, he was winning dramatically in terms of power. His magical power was clearly superior.

He had to take advantage of that advantage.

While looking for an alternative attack, he moved around the arena and managed to take advantage of a moment to jump to the other side. In midair, he launched several attacks at him, taking advantage of his proximity to the spells in the air to disperse them using spells created without his weapon.

Although the spells did not disperse as well as before due to their lower firing power, they still affected him.

But his spells also took Drake by surprise, who was unable to react to all of them.

Soon a strong wind hit him from behind and from the sides.

"Damn, I'm not good with wind," he complained. Among his repertoire of spells, he had to choose to create a weave for which he had no previous experience, which took him a little longer.

This fabric created an arc that went from top to bottom of pure fire to cut through the magic of the wind.

The magical explosion of fire and the strong gusts of wind collided, sending him rolling across the ground, but he quickly got to his feet and was finally out of range of the wind magic attacks.

But suddenly he felt his legs tied or slow in movement. He suddenly felt them wet.

"Water magic?" He immediately turned around and saw Louis coming in front of him, with that huge revolver pointing at his shoulder.

Louis immediately pulled the trigger, and a strong magical shot without much penetration came out of his revolver.

Due to the proximity, there was no way for Drake to dodge this bullet.

The sentence had come upon him.

Suddenly, a strange black shadow formed on Drake's body, along with a huge fabric.

It was almost instantaneous.

The bullet struck there, and Drake flew backward from the force of the impact. His body rolled across the floor, but Louis couldn't continue the attack because he had been wounded.

He looked at his side, where there was a firm wound, about the size of a bullet, and his bullet had fallen right behind him.

"Did he reflect my attack?" he thought, in shock. "No, the magic still affected him. What was that shadow and that fabric? I've never seen it before."

He looked at Drake, who got up. He wasn't in any better shape, but he had a smile on his face.

"First time I've ever had to use my shadow magic in a tournament," he said. He couldn't move his left shoulder; it was completely broken from the impact.

"Shadow magic?" Louis was amazed. "It's true, you're a follower of Umbraes."

"Hehe, I prefer you to call me a bearer of dark magic," said Drake.

"Is it your magic to reflect damage?" he asked.

"Although it may seem so, no. The bullet didn't hit you, it was my shadow."

"Your shadow?"

"Yes. What do you think shadow magic is all about?" he said ironically.

Louis nodded. "I see," he thought.

The little he knew about the Void/Shadows was that few understood what it was and that there weren't many magicians of that (or those) element(s). Although he already expected it to be a kind of enigmatic magic.

"I can't let this go on. I'm at a disadvantage since I can't kill them or cause them serious injury, so I have to get him out soon," Louis thought and looked ahead, ready to resume the fight.
