Louis looked up, almost as if he saw his salvation arriving in person.
"Rebecca? It's you!" he said, smiling happily.
Rebecca was shocked by his behavior and took a few steps back. "What's wrong with you?" she asked defensively.
It was the first time he had mentioned her name without sounding disgusted... well, maybe one of the first times he had mentioned it, since he usually called her by her first name in a harsh tone.
But Louis jumped up and smiled. "I'm happy to see you!" he said cheerfully.
Rebecca took another step back and looked at him suspiciously. "Has he gone crazy? He wasn't even hit in these fights. What the hell is wrong with him? Does he like me and that's why he's happy to see me?" She quickly shook her head.
"No, no. How could I like him when he's always saying weird things to me and playing games with me? Even if I did like him, he's a jerk, I would never like him!" she thought.
She didn't notice when Louis approached her. "What do you want to bet and where?" he asked.
"Ah." She jumped back in fright, but her reaction immediately caught the attention of everyone around her.
"It's Miss Rebecca! It really is her!"
"Miss Rebecca?! Where is she?!"
"Look, it really is her!"
Even some fights that were being staged nearby stopped because of this commotion, and in a moment many people turned around and wanted to crowd around to greet her.
Rebecca was quick to act. 'Tsk, they're as annoying as ever,' she thought, and immediately grabbed Louis's hand and quickly dragged him away.
That naturally raised more murmurs among the crowd.
"Damn, did Miss Rebecca just hold a man's hand?"
"Who was he?"
"Nooo, my Rebecca!"
"Does anyone know who that man was? He looked like a freshman..."
"I didn't get a good look..."
The crowd began to theorize different things, and even Louis, who was listening from a distance, was stunned.
"They're good at making up nonsense," he thought.
Among the dressing rooms, he looked at Rebecca; she had already let go of him.
"You know I still have more fights, right? What are you trying to do by pulling me out of there like that?" he asked.
"Tsk, weren't you bored? That's why you talked like that, right?" she theorized.
Louis couldn't help but stare at her, but he nodded. "That's right. The fights last seconds and the waits half an hour. How could I not be bored?" He sighed.
"Then come with me. I'll introduce you to my dad," she said.
Louis froze and stared at her in shock. "Huh? Who?"
Clearly, he hadn't heard her correctly. There was no way she could have said she would introduce him to her dad...
"My dad," she confirmed. "Who else?" she asked.
Rebecca Priestley's father!
Robert Priestley himself, possibly the richest man in the empire and one of the richest in the world!
He was so shocked he couldn't move.
It wasn't good for him to meet these luminaries at this moment.
So he thought about refusing, but Rebecca stared at him.
"You're not scared, are you? You're someone who rules half a district in the largest city in the Empire. It may be wrong for me to say so, but that's something so difficult that even castles can't do it easily," she said.
Louis stared at her and sneered.
"Velharthe may be the largest city in the Empire, but I'm sure it has nothing to do with the Industrial District. Only marginalized people live there, especially in the south, where there aren't even any decent Ascended." He replied.
"Haha, whatever, no one dared to trespass on Aster Mane's property, but you did. I don't think you're afraid to meet my father now, are you?"
Louis frowned and a few seconds later shrugged. "Anyway, I have nothing else to do," he said.
Luckily for him, although Robert Priestley is powerful individually, he is not powerful enough to discover his origins from the Lockwards, so there should be no danger for him.
Honestly, he believes that if that comes to light, the Lockwards will have him killed outright and there will be no salvation.
He walked behind Rebecca to one of the VIP rooms.
During those minutes, he was naturally not chosen, and since he was given 10 minutes to report to the arena, he didn't worry about what was happening there. He would have enough time to get there.
Upon entering the room, he was stunned to see Miss Evergreen there, and next to her was a man he had seen in the newspapers.
Robert Priestley, the greatest banker, investor, businessman, and everything else you can think of that has to do with money in the entire Empire.
The newspapers portrayed him as a tyrant, but when they looked at each other, Louis could see that he was a carefree guy and not tyrannical at all.
He was a man who scrutinized him from head to toe and smiled at him in a friendly manner.
"So you're the rumored Louis von Habsburg, eh. I've wanted to meet you for a few weeks now. If fate brought us together today, it's because it has good plans for us," he said and motioned for him to sit on another of the previously prepared benches.
Louis nodded. "A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Priestley," he said and looked at Evergreen. "Long time no see, Miss Evergreen."
She smiled. "When I met you that time, I was only thinking of doing Mr. Adelbert a favor to get away from the idiotic nobles who were accompanying me for a while, but I thought you were lucky. Now it seems that I am the lucky one. A Habsburg, right?" she asked, smiling with interest.
That was impressive, in her eyes.
'Tsk, I wish I could show off my surname right now. A Habsburg? Fuck that, I was born into the most prominent family in this world!' He wanted to show off by saying that.
'Too bad they're assholes,' he thought.
The question is, why would he have to hide the surname he had on Earth? It was his main surname, the one his mother gave him at birth!
That was one of the reasons he was so resentful of the Lockwards. Not only was he expelled for reasons he considered stupid (although feasible in a family of that status and with those capabilities), but they also prevented him from using the surname, which was very unusual, but which he had used for many years on Earth and which had been given to him by his real mother.
"Forget it." He sighed inwardly. He didn't know why he had suddenly started rambling about it, but he needed to get everything off his chest, and no one could hear him because it was a complaint about a family that was too prominent.
Maybe he should tell the beasts, who wouldn't be able to understand?
He nodded to Evergreen and then sat down where they told him to.
"God, you can see the whole arena from here. I can even see clearly when someone chooses me," he thought.
"Young Lord Louis, how are your brothers?" Robert asked suddenly.
Louis had the urge to reply that he didn't even know them or who they were, but he swallowed it.
"They seem to be doing well in their businesses. Each is in their own world and avoids meeting often," he replied.
"I suppose that makes sense. The enemies of Habsburg fear that the Clan will be reborn, so they may be watching for that," he said.
Louis smiled. "Luckily, we have pretty strong protection in the empire, so they won't make a move easily."
"Haha, Mr. Dan, right? How is he? I've been so busy with work lately that I haven't been able to meet up with him for a drink."
Louis didn't respond immediately. He appeared to be very focused on watching a fight, but in reality he was deep in thought.
"There's a hint of hesitation in his voice when he asks about my uncle. This guy is trying to get information out of me, right?" he thought.
He had already forgotten how many times he had had to learn the tones of voice of businessmen when they tried to get information out of each other. As someone who had to do a lot of business with other companies to achieve the status he had before his death on Earth, he was well versed in this type of information.
"And this time it's almost the same," he thought.
That's why he had to seriously consider his response.
He didn't know what kind of information he wanted, but at least he could narrow it down to a few things: One, Dan's well-being. Two, his relationship with him.
Everything revolved around Dan.
"Did something happen to him?" he thought.
If he thought about it carefully, he had had very little contact with him lately. In fact, he hadn't seen him in a while, but he remembered that he had said he would try to regain control of the family business.
And he wasn't helping him recently, even though technically he had now taken away what little power Lockward had over the Industrial District, South Zone.
Since he took full control of that area, the presence of the guys who monitored him in the district had decreased considerably, especially since he killed the businessman from the north and threatened many other businessmen.
So he was sure he had had some influence on what the Lockwards wanted to do there. That being the case, he was indeed helping his uncle and completing the mission. But it was very little help.
He wasn't sure his uncle could do it well.
'Even though he's immensely respected in the empire. When he meets me, he usually lowers his head, so I don't know how good he is at what he does.' Somehow, Robert's question created concerns in him.
And it also made him digress without answering.
