God of Destruction: Living Among Mortals

Chapter 55: Elesch: Part II

"Elesch," he suddenly spoke, his voice echoing throughout the void. Then, everything returned to silence as if the echo never existed to begin with.

She went towards him, softly, like a breeze, touching his cheeks, somewhat caressing them. Her touch was divine, as if every softness of a star was caressing Nova's mortal body.

"Welcome, big brother," Elesch spoke suddenly. The void didn't dim the echo that she had released; instead, it further amplified it, since it was her domain. "I have missed you!"

Nova's face softened, as if he hadn't seen Elesch in a long time, which was less than a month on Earth. Elesch had been living inside of Nova's chamber in the Inner Heaven, adjacent to Freya, for as long as she had existed.

Elesch would occasionally go to Freya's room, acting like her little sister, and Freya paid no attention to it, since she always liked Elesch's childish behavior. Since Freya didn't have a little brother or sister, Elesch was her way to feel the weight of being an older sister.

"I was watching you from Inner Heaven, in Freya's chamber, and saw how badly you were being thrashed by those low... um... bugs? No, even worse! You looked like a soggy potato being kicked around by a hungry donkey!" Elesch exclaimed proudly; her words carried the weight of wisdom, of elite observation.

Nova froze. His veins in his forehead twitched, his expression contorting as though he'd just been stabbed, not just by a sword, but by the cruel blade of his little sisters, acute observation.

"A... soggy potato?!" he gasped, as he stumbled back cartoonishly in horror, which was beyond exaggerated, clutching his chest like the words had physically wounded his soul. "Thank you, Elesch... for that wonderful observation. I truly appreciate it."

"Anytime, brother!" She looked proud as she said her dialogue, raising her chest mightily.

"Anyways," Nova tried to forget her teasing insult, and moved on to the question he was curious about. "I told you not to leave my chamber or Freya's, so why are you here? How did none of the gods suspect you?"

Elesch thought for a moment, her fingers touching her lower lip, as her eyes darted up, comprehending how she was going to answer him.

Then, she spoke up with enthusiasm: "Oh! I just snuck past them. I turned myself invisible, then teleported to my domain, which I created in the Void, and then I brought you here."

"Oh, Elesch. Why did you do that?" Nova rested his head back, closing his eyes as he knew he might get in trouble. "You aren't allowed to leave my chamber or Freya's. You know why, right?"

Elesch looked as though she was going to cry, taking quick breaths, as if doing yoga, but instead, she started to lightly cry. No tears shed, but she dulled. She looked away from Nova, mad at him, and he understood that he had made a mistake.

"Aw, Elesch, I'm sorry," Nova said, going towards her. "You know I didn't mean it like that. It's just after the Great Celestial War; the Eldritch were cast out, and you were framed as one, and I didn't want you to leave me, so I had to put you in my chamber. It's for your own safety."

During the Great Celestial War, Apollo was jealous of Nova and Freya's relationship, so with the help of the other two Supreme Gods, Orin and Chronos, he devised a plan to frame Elesch, the ruler of the Void, as being one of the Eldritch.

During the war, when Nova had to confront Elesch, he lightly tapped her head, so then created a sound wave that rippled through time and space, ensuring that Elesch was "died." Who, in reality, was just chilling in his chambers.

"Are you going to hit me like you did before?" She said, voice low with sadness, her cheeks puffed like a gumball. She was referencing when Nova hit her during the war.

Nova shook his head side-to-side, his heart feeling like it was tightening at her words, his chest burning as though her sadness had branded itself into his very soul.

He immediately bent down to her level, his soft eyes smiled at her, with his hands rising to brush against her cheek, but stopping just short, as though they were hesitant, afraid she might pull back.

"No, Elesch," he lightly whispered, his voice shaking like a candle in the wind. "Never again. I promise you, I won't hit you ever again. I could never truly raise my hand against you, not now, not ever."

Elesch peeked at him from the corner of her watery eyes, cheeks still puffed, lips curled into the smallest pout. "You promise?" Her tone was a fragile string, stretched thin, ready to snap.

"I swear on my existence," Nova said, kneeling fully, lowering his head before her as though she were the one worthy of worship. "I will never hurt you again. I'd sooner let the universe collapse into dust than let my hand bring you pain."

Her lips quivered, then slowly curved upward. With a little sniffle, she suddenly lunged forward, wrapping her arms around his neck, pressing her forehead to his shoulder.

"Then I forgive you," she said, her voice muffled against him. She went back to her usual playful self.

Nova let out a long, quiet breath, relief washing over him. He embraced her fully, his hand resting protectively on her back. For a moment, it was just them, suspended in the stillness of the Void.

But Elesch, being Elesch, was quick to shift tones. She pulled back, her eyes shining once more, not with tears, but with mischievous intent. "Big brother... can I come with you? Please? I don't want to stay hidden anymore. I want to see the mortal realm myself. I want to fight alongside you, like we did before the Great Celestial War."

Nova's expression wavered, torn between the danger and his soft spot for her. He opened his mouth to protest, but the determination in her gaze silenced him. He knew that look. He had seen it when she first created her domain, when she first declared herself ruler of the Void, when she first stood by his side during the war despite her being weak. Being a liability.
