God of Destruction: Living Among Mortals

Chapter 207: Episode 207

Before either could relax further, a low rumble echoed through the ruins, and the ground cracked beneath their feet. Both of them froze, instincts kicking in again. From the smoke and molten rock, a shadow emerged, larger than before, its outline jagged and trembling with barely contained power.

Elesch whispered, more to herself than to Adam, "Looks like we just woke the real one."

Adam's claws flexed automatically. "Guess we're not done yet," he said.

The new presence radiated an oppressive energy, blacker and hotter than anything they had faced. Flames licked the edges of the battlefield, and the air seemed to warp around it. The shadow moved closer, and in its wake, the ruins trembled as if bowing to its power.

Elesch tightened her grip on her rapier, void energy flaring wildly. Adam crouched low, spikes bristling along his back, wings flexing, tail coiled like a spring.

Neither spoke. They didn't need to. They both knew what was coming next: a fight that would test every ounce of strength, every adaptation, every skill they possessed.

And this time, it wasn't just a bet. It was survival.

The shadow loomed larger, pulsing with energy so dense it warped the air. The battlefield, already a scene of destruction, seemed to shrink under its presence. Adam and Elesch exchanged a brief nod, the unspoken promise clear: whatever this was, they would face it together.

Then, with a guttural roar that shook the very sky, the shadow lunged. The shadow descended like a collapsing mountain, molten energy radiating in waves that made the air shimmer and burn.

Adam reacted instantly, coiling his tail and pushing off the cracked ground. Chimera Shell activated instinctively, stone-hardened skin, reinforced claws, and lightning-fast reflexive muscles.

He soared upward, narrowly avoiding the first crushing blow that shattered an entire street in an instant. Elesch followed without hesitation, rapier slicing the air, void energy spiraling around her.

She extended a hand toward the approaching shadow, summoning multiple void pockets at precise points to destabilize the creature's trajectory.

When the shadow's arm struck, it passed through one of her void spheres, which imploded violently, collapsing a chunk of its power back onto itself. Sparks erupted along its jagged outline, smoke curling from the void's touch.

Adam landed on a fractured rooftop, claws digging deep into the concrete to steady himself. He flexed, adaptive hide shimmering as he grew temporary spikes along his shoulders and arms.

The shadow lashed out again, a wave of molten energy that surged forward like a tidal wall. Adam braced, body reacting instinctively, muscles stiffened, spikes locked into defensive positions, and his claws tore a trench in the hardened ground, grounding himself against the force.

Elesch didn't wait. She darted forward, void spheres flaring into implosions that absorbed the wave of molten energy, creating vacuum pockets that siphoned away chunks of the shadow's power. A flare of anti-energy tore through its side, leaving a gaping weakness Adam could exploit.

"Now!" Elesch shouted.

Adam leapt with explosive force, claws extended like twin spears of obsidian. He drove them into the weakened flank, digging deep into the jagged, molten skin.

The shadow bellowed in rage, twisting violently to dislodge him. Adaptive hide reacted instantly, morphing into hybrid plating along his arms and legs to resist the intense heat and force.

Elesch moved with a blur, rapier spinning in a lethal dance, void pockets threading through the shadow's body like needles.

She collapsed its elemental energy in localized bursts, erasing fiery attacks before they could erupt fully, cutting off its ability to fight effectively.

The shadow staggered, its hulking form wobbling as Adam's claws tore deeper and Elesch's void spheres imploded repeatedly against it.

The battlefield trembled under each movement of the colossal demon, molten rock spraying in all directions. Lesser demons, sensing the overwhelming power, fled or melted under stray pulses of heat and void energy.

Adam's tail lashed out, sweeping away debris and sending chunks of broken buildings into the shadow's path, distracting it further while Elesch created additional void spheres at the joints of its wings, collapsing them inward.

Adam roared and pounded his fists into the shadow's chest, spikes bristling to anchor himself against its thrashing. Each strike dug into the jagged surface, cracking molten plates and destabilizing the creature.

Elesch twirled, launching a series of void spheres that collided with the demon's head and neck, erasing some of its energy reserves in bright flashes of imploding darkness. The combined assault forced the shadow to stagger backward, molten lava dripping from cracks in its form.

Adam used the momentum to spring onto the creature's back, claws piercing molten layers while his wings unfurled to balance him on the uneven, shifting surface.

Elesch jumped onto an adjacent rubble pile, void energy flaring, as she summoned a massive pocket of vacuum directly beneath the demon. The implosion yanked at its molten body, creating an unstable center of gravity.

"Hold it steady!" Adam shouted, claws digging in.

Elesch nodded, void energy intensifying around her. She directed the implosion upward, slicing through the core of the shadow's energy while Adam's claws tore open the outer shell, exposing raw, molten veins that pulsed like living fire.

The shadow bellowed, a sound that split the air, but the pressure of their combined attack was too much.

Adam's tail coiled tightly, smashing against the creature's wing to prevent escape, while Elesch focused every ounce of her Void II evolution into one final sphere, expanding it with precise control around the shadow's chest.

The void sphere pulsed, imploding with a force that sucked away molten energy and destabilized the creature from within.

Adam braced himself, claws driving deeper, spikes anchoring him, and with a synchronized command, Elesch triggered the void explosion. The sphere collapsed, ripping through the shadow's core. Molten rock and energy twisted violently inward, pulling the massive creature apart from the inside.

It roared, louder and longer than before, before shattering into fragments of molten stone and disappearing in a final burst of void energy. The battlefield went silent.

Smoke and steam rose from the cooling molten ground, debris settling slowly. Adam collapsed onto the cracked pavement, claws retracting as his Chimera Shell adaptations faded.

Elesch landed beside him, rapier lowering as the last traces of void energy dissipated into the air. For a moment, neither moved.

The sheer scale of what they had accomplished pressed down on them, the destruction, the fury, the almost insurmountable power they had faced and overcome together.

Adam let out a slow, hoarse laugh, wiping a streak of soot from his face. "That was insane."

Elesch smirked, though her breathing was heavy, void energy still faintly shimmering at her fingertips. "Told you I wasn't going to lose that easily. But I have to admit we make a good team."

Adam glanced at her, a rare, tired smile forming. "Yeah, team. Not bad for a bet, huh?"

Elesch's grin widened. "Not bad at all. But next week? You're still going to be my servant."

Adam groaned dramatically but laughed, tail flicking in amusement. "Fine, fine. Just don't get used to this cooperation thing."

They both glanced at the battlefield, scattered with debris, cooling molten rivers, and the shattered remnants of the shadow. The lesser demons had fled or been annihilated.

Elesch finally lowered her rapier completely and dusted off her coat. "Well, Adam, I'd say we survived. And we won."

Adam flexed his claws, glancing at the smoking horizon. "Yeah, we won. Together."
