Chapter 17: The Guild: Part II
The line kept moving forward, and the trio kept harassing the innocent boy. Nova watched them closely, yet distantly, for every move they made. He stared at them with evil, gnawing intent. One of the boys, the leader, who was talking to the boy in the middle of their trio, took notice. He side-eyed Nova, just enough for Nova to not notice him.
On the boy's hand, his Circle of Pillars appeared, showing a faint pillar, indicating that he had the power to be an F-rank awakened. Nova took notice of the pillar, shifting his gaze ahead, as more than twenty people were ahead of him.
That boy… There seems to be something special about him, as if he were from a rich family, or maybe of a special bloodline. He thought, some veins forming at the head of his temple. Either way, all the people ignore him, like a zebra running from a lion. And the cherry on top is that he is awakened. But, he doesn't seem like the type to have sort a special ability. No… just the opposite. He may just have some basic ass elemental manipulation. Maybe air, Earth, water, fire. If he does, he won't be that strong.
The line shifted a step forward, like transforming a quadratic equation. He moved up, hearing more of the boy's laughter. It gnawed at his soul. The boy's laughter was so foul that it broke the definition of foul. It was so grim, vile, disgusting, rotten to the core. His breath even smelled, and he took notice of it, but did nothing about it, as if he didn't care. Not for himself, or others.
Nova was like that as well, not caring for others' opinions and whatever thought popped into the mortal's brain, but he did care about himself and for his kittens, which he may have been attracted to more than himself.
Then the leader muttered, catching Nova staring at them, a devilish grin popping on the leader's face as he spoke, his voice targeted mostly towards Nova: "Do you know what happens to people who don't listen, or mind their own fucking business?" He asked the boy, as if expecting the answer, even though he was going to answer it himself. "They die. They get tortured, and they shrivel like a twig. You get it, right?"
The glasses boy replied, his voice low, cold, and fearful, stuttering at the edge of panic: "I-I get it. I-I a-am sorry. I-it was a mi-mis-mistake, I-I won't dare t-to q-question you a-again."
"You fucking two-faced bitch," the leader forcefully grabbed the boy's face, squeezing his cheeks tightly. "When I tell you to do something, you better listen, got it? Otherwise, you know what will happen to your mother, don't you?"
The boy gulped, tears forming and dripping from his eyes. He nodded reluctantly. The leader let off his cheeks with a snap.
The line moved again, and this time the trio made a bigger ruckus than before. They didn't look at the innocent boy, who was almost crying like a child, probably thinking about his mom. Scratch that, he was thinking about his mom. His sweet, innocent mother.
The leader then spoke up again, his voice loud, disturbing the peace that had settled in the guild: "Yo, can we hurry up here?" Then, noticing a woman as the receptionist at his line, he added, bluntly sexist: "Like bitch," he said, as the woman looked in his direction. "Yeah, you," he pointed his finger, then continued: "Hurry the fuck up."
Whispers erupted throughout the guild. The woman was embarrassed, unable to look at anyone, as it was the first day at her job. She left the scene, tears forming, and she didn't want to cry in front of anyone. The trio just laughed.
Nova then stepped up, seeing how bluntly a couple of teenagers his age could insult a woman doing her job: "Hey, you," the leader looked at him. "What the hell is wrong with you? Can't you see it's her day at work? Or are you blind?"
There was a board, which was stationed at the counter, where everyone could see that it read: "New Receptionists in Training. First Day on Duty. Your courtesy is appreciated."
It was written in bold, clearly stating that it was the woman's first day. The leader felt offended, showing him his death stare, which Nova laughed at.
"What is that?" Nova asked, chuckling harder. "Is that your way of threatening me? Oh, your foolish little mortal. How dare you look at me with those disgusting, foolish eyes? You should be banished to the depths of the Infernal Realm."
The leader was angry; in fact, so angry that he felt like ripping the throat of Nova, in front of everyone, with his little minions. But of course, he couldn't play dirty, not in front of everyone, dissolving the family name.
"Tell you what," he said, his eyes betraying his bloodlust. "If I win, you have to be my little slave, but if you win, I'll do whatever you want. For the rest of my family. And I'll even put it on my family name."
Nova exhaled a chuckle, smiling at the foolishness of the boy. But then realized he didn't have his divinity, so the only one foolish here was he. He bit his tongue in his thoughts, then agreed to the battle, since he wanted to feel the action and adventure he had descended to Earth for.
He sweated a little at his temple, not knowing how the fight could turn out. He didn't want to think about being a slave to some snotty, rich brat. But he also didn't want to back down from a fight. Not one that upheld the start of his reputation at the guild.
Everyone shifted, stirring clear of the brawl ahead. They sensed the tension; even the guards didn't dare to intervene, since they knew who the brat of a kid was. Who his father was. And what his father was capable of doing. The leader cracked his knuckles, smirking. Think it was an easy fight. But it wasn't a fight, but a declaration. And both of them knew it.
