Selling a house would take too long, and it would also leave transaction records. For Qin Siyang, this was not a good option.

So, what Qian Wenzhao had actually given him was a single-choice question.

Qin Siyang returned home, wrapped up the few hundred copper coins he had, placed them in a cloth bag, then grabbed a lunchbox and his residence permit.

After that, he set his house on fire.

Qin Siyang's residence was at the very edge of the Safe Zone, where few people lived. No developers would come to this remote area to build large-scale factories after the apocalypse.

So, the houses here were all single-story cottages, and there was some distance between each one.

The fire that burned down Qin Siyang's house didn't affect anyone else's safety. It didn't even wake up the neighbors who were sound asleep.

'This should be enough.'

Since Qin Siyang's house had "accidentally" burned down, he had truly become a homeless drifter.

But even as a drifter, he still needed a place to sleep.

He wandered around for a long time, but with nowhere else to go, he ended up at Wang Defa's internet café.

When Wang Defa saw Qin Siyang again, he no longer felt the initial fear, nor the later excitement—only helplessness and endless complaints.

Muttering under his breath, he grumbled, "How is this a boss? He's basically a harbinger of doom. Ugh, why did I even get involved with him in the first place?"

Though he was full of complaints, when he stepped out of the internet café to speak with Qin Siyang, he still put on a smile and resumed his polite demeanor.

"Boss, what can I do for you this time?"

"Oh, I need to stay in your internet café's storage room for a while. Should only be a few days. Once I finish registering my Sequence ability, getting a house shouldn't be too difficult."

"Huh? What?", Wang Defa shuddered from head to toe, his eyes widening.

"I said, I need to stay here for a while."

"No, wait… Boss, if the police conduct another surprise inspection, what am I supposed to say?"

"Just say the same thing you did last time."

Wang Defa waved his hands frantically, "No way! Boss, this really won't work. Last time was an emergency—I had a reason to help. But you can't… you can't keep doing this. I have a wife and kids! If they find out about… whatever this is between us, how am I supposed to be a husband? A father?"

Qin Siyang gave him a sidelong glance, "You think I want this? Don't tell me you actually believe that if people spread rumors about us, I'm the one benefitting while you're the one losing out?"

Wang Defa's face twisted like a rag that had been used to wipe floors for ten years, "I… I didn't mean you're benefitting… We both lose, right? This is a lose-lose situation!"

"Cut the crap. If you won't let me sleep here, I'll just sleep at your house."

"Huh? You—this… this is unreasonable…"

"Don't talk to me about reason."

Qin Siyang couldn't be bothered to argue with Wang Defa any longer. He walked straight to the storage room, opened the door, shook off the dust from the carpet, and lay down, preparing to rest.

Wang Defa had no words for his frustration. He could only sigh quietly and close the door for Qin Siyang.

"What the hell is this nonsense?", Cursing under his breath, Wang Defa walked away.

Lying on the warehouse floor, Qin Siyang also felt somewhat helpless. Right now, he really missed his bed.

"Hopefully, Qian Wenzhao can get things sorted out soon. Spending even a single day in this place is unbearable."

He made do for the night, but by around six the next morning, he woke up with a sore back from the cold, hard ground.

Even with his strong physique, he still wasn't used to sleeping on the floor.

'Damn… even killing someone wouldn't feel this bad.'

Qin Siyang, still groggy from waking up, rubbed his face and opened his phone, only to see an unread message.

["It's done. Sunday, 8 AM, bring your residence permit to Sequence Ability Management Bureau No. 14121."]

He checked the sender: [Uncle!]

'Damn, Director Qian, you're amazing!'

Qin Siyang was so happy he almost jumped up.

Qian Wenzhao was truly reliable—he had taken care of everything in just one day.

Without hesitation, Qin Siyang immediately turned on the nearby computer used for surveillance and searched for directions to the Sequence Ability Management Bureau.

'Looks like it's about six stops away. I'd better head out now.'

After memorizing the route, he cleared the browser history, placed his belongings inside the desk drawer beside the computer, took only his residence permit, and left the storage room.

He walked along the main road for four stops, then turned into a small alley, followed it for ten minutes, turned onto another main road, and continued walking for half an hour.

'Sequence Ability Management Bureau No. 14121… this should be the place.'

The management bureau was a square, three-story building with gray-painted walls. The streetlights cast a dim, nearly black glow on the exterior.

Qin Siyang had no idea how such a dark color could emit light, but it undoubtedly made the already solemn-looking building even more intimidating.

To him, however, it was just amusing.

'Who would've thought? The place I used to be too scared to even glance at—now I'm stepping in for the first time, in such a playful manner.'

He looked at the empty street, then at the gray-walled, boxy management bureau, feeling somewhat sentimental.

There were no guards at the entrance of the Sequence Ability Management Bureau.

Because every staff member inside had awakened a Sequence Ability, no thief or criminal would be stupid enough to cause trouble here.

Let alone stepping inside—even getting close to the building required immense courage for an ordinary person.

Otherwise, if a Sequence Ability user mistakenly killed you, there wouldn't even be a place to seek justice.

According to the United Government's law, if a Sequence Ability user killed an ordinary person, the regular police, prosecution office, and courts had no jurisdiction over the case.

All cases had to be transferred to the Sequence Ability Management Bureau for judgment. And the verdict usually resulted in increasing the ability user's god hunt quota, under the guise of "continuing to contribute to the Safe Zone as atonement."

But in reality, everyone knew that Sequence Ability users had to hunt gods in the Safe Zone regardless of punishment. This was just a disguised way to protect them.

Even so, no one dared to complain about the privileges of Sequence Ability users.

First, the awakening of a Sequence Ability was entirely random—no one was born with it. In other words, the path to joining this privileged class was completely transparent.

Second, Sequence Ability users could kill gods—they were humanity's last hope. If you tried to strip them of their privileges, you were essentially taking away humanity's chance of leaving the Safe Zone. No one could afford to bear that blame.

Thus, in the outskirts of the Safe Zone, Sequence Ability users were practically divine beings—revered and avoided by all.

Of course, the United Government did not grant them unlimited privileges.

Killing an ordinary person? That could be lightly punished or even overlooked. But a Sequence Ability user could not kill students or active government officials.

Students were the future nurtured by the United Government, and government officials were the foundation that upheld its rule. If a Sequence Ability user killed either, they would be strictly prosecuted.

With such restrictions in place, hostility toward Sequence Ability users had greatly diminished over time.

And so, in this apocalyptic world, an eerily stable yet distorted social structure had taken shape.

Qin Siyang climbed the steps and pushed open the black wooden doors of the management bureau.
