Chapter 57: Chapter 57: The Champion Of The Empire, Baishen Comes To His Door

A bad review during the trial ended Wang Zihao's chances of attending a top-tier institution. Expelled from the exam, his prospects were dim. Not only would top universities be out of reach, but even the top 100 would likely reject him. Despite his family's connections and even ties to a powerful guild, Wang Zihao was powerless against the competitive nature of higher education institutions. His future was all but sealed—his best hope now was to attend a standard university.

As the rankings were announced one by one, Marsh's peers from Xihai No. 1 Middle School fared decently. Kevin was ranked 61st, placing in the middle tier, while the others weren't as fortunate but could still be accepted into colleges.

After the results were officially revealed, the examiner's voice echoed again.

"Combat career, this year's provincial champion of Jiangning Province, Marsh."

The examiner's announcement sent another shockwave through the crowd, sparking a commotion.

Then, thunderous applause filled the air.

Everyone around Marsh congratulated him. Becoming the number one scholar in a province wasn't a small achievement, and with his immense point total, it was even more remarkable. In fact, the points of the other four who entered the battle space together didn't even come close to Marsh's score. The contrast was impossible to ignore.

Amid the applause, the examiner's voice rang out once more.

"An order from the empire: Marsh has become the national champion in this year's big exam."

The room went wild.

David jumped up again, his excitement causing him to momentarily lose control of his emotions.

"National... national champion?" David stuttered. "Marsh is the number one scholar in the country…"

For a while, he couldn't even speak clearly. He couldn't believe his own ears.

"David, are you alright?" someone asked, concerned.

"Don't get too excited. Calm down."

"Really, Marsh is the national top pick."

"You heard it right. Now you have a reason to boast for the rest of your life."

"Your school can be renamed Champion High School now. It's incredible to have a national champion."

The others were envious, their voices mixed with admiration. David's excitement was palpable, his joy evident in every word.

Outside the trial tower, the applause was like thunder.

"National champion! Our Jiangning Province has a national champion."

"Oh my god, how many years has it been since we had a national champion in Jiangning Province?"

"Marsh is so talented, becoming the number one in the entire country."

Marsh, however, remained calm and composed. By the time he had claimed the provincial champion title, he had already predicted that the national title might be his too. And as expected, it was.

Jeny, with a surprised expression, said, "You've become the national champion. Why aren't you happier?"

"I'm happy," Marsh responded softly.

Jeny pouted. "You don't even know how to smile when you're happy."

Marsh remained nonchalant, "I smiled, in my heart."

"You're an idiot," Jeny muttered under her breath. "But still, congratulations, Marsh."

Zuo Mei and Feng Xiu approached him.

"Marsh, congratulations," Zuo Mei said, her tone cooler than usual, which suited her temperament.

Feng Xiu smiled and extended his hand. "Thanks this time. If it weren't for you, we'd have been in big trouble."

Zuo Mei also nodded, adding her congratulations.

Marsh shook hands with both of them. "It's nothing."

Feng Xiu asked, "You're planning to take the entrance exam for Xiajing Academy?"

Marsh nodded.

"Alright, I'll see you at Xiajing Academy. I'll treat you to dinner then."

"Sure," Marsh responded, his tone calm as always.

Although Marsh was cold, his teammates found him more intriguing the more they got to know him. Despite his silence, there was something about him that made him fun to be around.

After the final exam, they returned to school.

David, however, did not come back with them, as the major exams for auxiliary careers were still taking place. He needed to stay and accompany the others.

Marsh returned home to rest. The registration for universities would begin the following day, and his goal was clear: Xiajing Academy. As the national champion, he was certain to be accepted. If even he couldn't make it in, no one else would.

He silently summoned four skeleton warriors and placed them into the summoning space. His skeleton warriors had become his reliable allies in battle. After their injuries sustained during the fight against the Ferlin orc warriors, they had quickly recovered in the summoning space. Marsh now had a total of 104 skeleton warriors.

Suddenly, a knock at the door broke his concentration.

David's exuberance had finally died down, but the excitement on his face still hadn't faded. The older man, in his sixties, had never been as excited as he was today.

"Why are you here?" Marsh asked, opening the door.

It was late at night, and David's unexpected arrival in the dead of night raised a question—there was certainly something important at hand. But it wasn't just David who had come. Another figure stood in the doorway, someone Marsh didn't recognize. The man had an overwhelming presence, and Marsh felt a weight in the air as though his very breath was being stifled.

Before Marsh could react, the figure's aura had already filled the room, and the skeleton warriors appeared, instinctively protecting him.

"Good reflexes," came the voice from the man.

Marsh immediately relaxed upon hearing the voice. He had recognized it instantly.

Marsh stood at attention and respectfully bowed, "I've met Lord Baishen."

The man stepped forward, releasing the suffocating aura. The shadows parted to reveal Bai Yiyuan, the man from the battle space back when they had faced the backlash.

"How did you know it was me?" Bai Yiyuan asked, his tone amused.

"I recognized your voice," Marsh replied, still standing respectfully.

Bai Yiyuan chuckled. "Good answer."

Marsh was calm and composed, even in the presence of the intimidating Bai Yiyuan. His instinctive reaction to protect himself had earned him Bai Yiyuan's approval.

"I'm here for a reason," Bai Yiyuan continued. "I'd like to talk to you about Xiajing Academy."
