Chapter 46: Chapter 46: The Best Way Is to Deal with the Summoner Himself
Even the boss-level monsters had been instantly slain by Marsh.
His strength had clearly impressed several examiners present.
Although the monsters they had arranged were weakened, they were still formidable opponents that couldn't be killed so easily.
Didn't they see how hard others were fighting?
Jeny, while avoiding the Wolf Orc Captain's attacks, continued to unleash her skills, retaliating with force. Wang Zihao went head-to-head in hand-to-hand combat, blood splattering with each strike. The berserker's attributes, known for their battle frenzy, were on full display.
Only Zuo Mei seemed to have it easier, her movements graceful as she danced around the monsters, controlling them with her stealth and skill.
But when they looked at Marsh, it was a different story. He didn't even move. He simply ordered his two skeleton warriors to charge, and with two swift strikes, the battle was over.
"I think he could clear those low-level dungeons all on his own," one examiner remarked.
"More than that," another examiner responded. "He's qualified to solo a dungeon under level 20, even Nightmare difficulty."
"I don't think that's the full extent of his abilities," another said. "We still haven't seen his real combat power."
The group continued to discuss as they waited for the next round.
"Let's wait for the fifth round," one examiner suggested. "If he really wants to be the provincial champion—or even the national champion—he'll have to face the fifth round."
"Maybe we'll see something new then," another replied.
The examiners discussed amongst themselves, aware that the test content was determined by the empire's higher-ups. They had no authority to alter it. The only one present with that kind of power was Ning Xuanfeng, who had arrived late.
He had been silent until now, watching the events unfold with great interest. His gaze was focused mostly on Marsh, clearly fascinated by his performance.
The third round of testing concluded quickly, taking only about 10 minutes.
Jeny, Zuo Mei, and Wang Zihao had all successfully defeated their opponents, each earning 500 points. Some candidates succeeded, while others failed. A portion of candidates were eliminated either because they chose to withdraw or were forced out after suffering injuries that rendered them incapable of continuing.
Though eliminated, these candidates had performed admirably and would be able to attend good universities.
Only 120 candidates remained to proceed to the next round.
"The rankings after the third round will be announced now," the voice of the announcer echoed.
1. Marsh, total points: 2105
2. Zuo Mei, total points: 970
3. Jeny, total points: 770
4. Wang Zihao, total points: 765
5. Kevin, total points: 302
Marsh scanned the rankings and noticed Kevin's name. Ranking 67th was impressive. He had made it this far, and now his chances of entering Jiangning Academy were almost guaranteed.
Marsh also understood Kevin's character. The man was arrogant, stubborn even. He had made it this far and would definitely not give up easily.
Kevin would likely face the fourth round, no matter what.
Wang Zihao was still in 4th place, and it was clear to him now that he couldn't catch up with Marsh.
"The fourth round is starting soon," Wang Zihao muttered, gripping his saber tightly, a fierce look in his eyes.
The announcer's voice sounded once more, filling the room.
"The fourth round of exams will begin now. The difficulty will continue to increase, and so will the danger."
"You now have the option to continue or withdraw. With your current scores, you are all qualified for admission to the top 100 universities in the empire."
This time, no one chose to withdraw.
Everyone present had fought too hard to give up now.
A pure white light cascaded over them, healing their injuries, restoring their attributes to full strength, and refreshing their skills.
"In that case, I respect your decision," the announcer continued. "The rules for the fourth round of exams are as follows:"
"Each of you will face 10 batches of monster attacks. Each batch will consist of 10 monsters, for a total of 100 monsters. The interval between each batch will be 1 minute. Regardless of whether you have finished fighting the previous batch, the next group of monsters will appear after 1 minute."
"The last batch will be led by a boss-level monster."
"Defeat all of them to pass."
"Each monster you defeat will earn you 10 points. If you defeat all the monsters, your points will be doubled at the end, totaling 2000 points."
With that, a light curtain appeared in front of everyone, revealing the first wave of monsters.
The monsters were level 13 Worf Orcs, a mix of fighter monsters and a mage at the back.
The difficulty had increased.
Marsh thought to himself, the difficulty was more than just a little higher.
If the ability to clear monsters wasn't high enough, the candidates would be overwhelmed and eventually defeated by the sheer numbers.
He realized that this round was all about quickly clearing monsters.
From basic combat power, to endurance, to dueling ability, and now to the ability to eliminate monsters quickly.
This test truly covered every aspect of a professional's strength.
The examiners stood off to the side, smiling and waiting.
They knew that this round would really test Marsh.
"This time, it's up to you to see how you handle it," one examiner remarked.
"The best way to deal with a summoner is not by destroying his summons, but by taking out the summoner himself."
"I think Marsh might struggle with this one," another said with a grin.
"However, his summons are strong enough that it shouldn't be a problem for him to complete this round."
Ning Xuanfeng, who had been quiet up until now, spoke up. "I don't think this round of tests will trouble him."
The examiners turned to look at him, surprised.
Ning Xuanfeng's words carried a sense of certainty, almost as though he was completely confident.
While some examiners still weren't convinced, the difference in their positions was clear. They chose not to argue with him.
Soon, the results would reveal who was right and who was wrong.
