Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Too Much, They Are Going to Eat Sweet Potatoes for You
Jeny's performance in the exam was unanimously approved by all the examiners.
Wang Zihao, with his two-handed sword in hand, chopped off the wolf head of the wolf warrior in front of him. His face was filled with bloodlust, and the corners of his mouth curled into a confident, almost arrogant smile.
A Berserker, as the name suggested, thrived in combat. During fights, their sanity often decreased, and they became wild and unpredictable. Wang Zihao hadn't gone berserk yet, but once he did, he might lose all control.
"I gave it my all at the start, but I'm afraid my efficiency will drop significantly later," Wang Zihao muttered to himself. "I need to work on better managing my stamina."
Comparing his performance to Jeny's, Wang Zihao couldn't help but acknowledge that she was performing better than him.
The examiners weren't as concerned with how many monsters you killed. They were more focused on how you adapted to the battle, how long you could keep fighting, and how your combat power fluctuated from the beginning to the end of the round.
In a real battle, it wouldn't be possible to go all-out from the start; you'd need to pace yourself and find ways to maintain your power. After watching Wang Zihao and Jeny, the examiners had already formed their conclusions.
Jeny was clearly the stronger contender in terms of strategy and stamina.
Meanwhile, Zuo Mei, like Wang Zihao, had chosen Hell difficulty.
Where Wang Zihao relied on his brute force, Zuo Mei, as a Stalker, used her agility and speed to the fullest. She danced around the Worf wolf warriors, her movements fluid and precise, like a shadow. Each strike from her dagger was swift and deadly.
Every movement was calculated—no wasted effort, no unnecessary flair. She knew exactly when to use her skills, and when to dodge or parry. She played with the Worf wolf warriors as if they were puppets.
The examiners nodded approvingly at her performance. After a round of observation, they knew exactly what to make of each candidate.
Then, they returned their attention to Marsh.
The examiners could hardly believe their eyes.
"This kid… he's a bit too much."
"I agree, it's ridiculous."
"Is he really just eating sweet potatoes right now?"
"Is the sweet potato that good? Watching him eat is making me hungry."
Marsh was casually eating a sweet potato, his gaze fixed on the battlefield as he chewed. He had pulled the sweet potato out of his pocket before entering the exam room. Since storage space couldn't be used during the exam, he had made sure to bring something to snack on just in case he got hungry.
With nothing else to do, Marsh continued eating as his skeleton warriors did all the work.
"Eating during a major exam… this is a first."
"Someone make a note of this. We'll have to remember his name for the record."
"I think the exam is too easy for him. Should we make it harder?"
The examiner was frustrated to see Marsh so relaxed while others struggled to keep up. Still, the results spoke for themselves—Marsh was far ahead of everyone else.
"No, no. We can't change the difficulty now. The exam must remain fair."
Ning Xuanfeng, who had been silent since the exam began, observed Marsh with growing interest.
"This little guy is quite something."
As the 30 minutes dragged on, many candidates began to falter. Some were injured and dropped out, while others simply couldn't continue. The endurance test was wearing everyone down.
This wasn't like a dungeon raid, where you could take breaks when needed. Here, it was all about enduring the pressure.
Only Marsh seemed unaffected, even managing to doze off as his skeleton warriors continued to fight.
Eventually, after 30 minutes, all the monsters vanished simultaneously.
"It's finally over," one student sighed, slumping to the ground.
"I can't take it anymore," another groaned, sweat dripping down his face. "I'm more exhausted than when I finished a dungeon raid."
The majority of the students collapsed in exhaustion, having drained almost all of their physical and mental energy over the course of the exam.
Jeny, too, looked pale. She had fought hard, carefully managing her magical skills to conserve her energy. But after 30 minutes of battle, even she was feeling the strain.
The storage space was blocked during the exam, so there was no way to restore mental energy using potions. It made the test even harder than expected.
"I'm done," Jeny murmured, wiping sweat from her forehead.
"I killed over 200 of them," Wang Zihao proudly announced, though he was also lying flat on the ground. "That's over 200 points for me."
By the end of the test, Wang Zihao's efficiency had plummeted. The physical exhaustion had taken a toll, and his skills were on cooldown, leaving him with little left to give.
"I killed about 50. This Hell difficulty isn't easy at all," he admitted with a grimace.
Among all the candidates, only Marsh seemed unaffected. He had spent the entire exam as though it were a leisurely stroll.
"This round of exams is over," the announcer's voice echoed. "A total of 522 candidates participated in this round, with 278 disqualified due to injuries or voluntary abandonment."
The remaining 244 candidates had made it through, though they were now faced with a decision: continue to the next round or give up.
The examiners had been watching closely.
"How many will choose to give up this time?" one of the examiners asked with a smirk.
"Based on past years, at least a third of them will give up," another examiner predicted.
"This year's elimination rate is similar to last year's. About 60% of the participants have already been cut," a third examiner added.
Out of 632 combat professionals, only 244 were left standing.
"It's clear that they're struggling with this decision," the examiner noted. "Let's give them one final push."
A booming voice filled the room once more.
"Even if you choose to abandon the exam now, your scores are enough to get you into higher learning institutions."
"You have 60 seconds to decide. If you don't make a choice in time, you will automatically be considered to continue."
The pressure of this final announcement broke many students.
"I choose to give up."
"I quit. I can't go on."
"I'm done, if I keep going, I'll end up dead."
One by one, the students began to give up, unable to handle the thought of the more difficult and life-threatening challenges ahead.
But there were still others who chose to continue.
Having come this far, they didn't want to quit now. The thought of abandoning the exam after enduring so much was unthinkable to them.
The number of students who chose to continue steadily increased as the seconds ticked away, while the rest began to leave the stage, defeated but proud to have made it this far.
