Global Necromantic Specialist

Chapter 42: Chapter 42: 0.1 Seconds Against the Heavens

The first round of the test aimed to evaluate the combat skills of the participants. Although the monsters were slightly higher in level, it was a manageable challenge for professionals deemed qualified. This format had been used for years without issue, providing an effective way to measure skill. Battles usually lasted ten to thirty seconds, long enough to showcase ability while short enough to maintain intensity.

But then there was Marsh.

His fight lasted less than a second. The instant kill left no room for assessing his combat skills, leaving the examiners puzzled.

"What do we do now?" one examiner asked, visibly perplexed.

All eyes turned to the middle-aged man in the mage's robes, who was in charge of the mage category. But even he was at a loss. The trial's intended goal had not been met, leaving a glaring gap in the evaluation process.

At that moment, an elderly man entered the room.

"Master Ning, you're here!" the examiners said in unison, standing and bowing respectfully.

Ning Xuanfeng, an authoritative figure among the empire's examiners, nodded and replied in a deep voice, "I heard there's a new profession this year. I came to see it for myself."

The light curtain displayed Marsh's performance, and Ning Xuanfeng's sharp eyes scanned the screen. "A promising young man," he said with interest.

The examiners quickly explained Marsh's unprecedented performance, describing how his necromancer skills had instantly obliterated the trial monster.

Ning Xuanfeng listened thoughtfully and said, "You want to measure the strength of this new necromancer profession? Based on its performance, it clearly surpasses the expectations for rare classes. If we want to test him further, we must raise the difficulty."

"Raise it to what level?" one examiner asked cautiously.

"Set it at the level of a legendary profession," Ning Xuanfeng declared.

The room fell silent. Testing a level-16 necromancer as if they were a legendary class seemed unreasonable.

"But Master Ning, that wouldn't be fair to him," one examiner objected. "How do we even score such an exam?"

Ning Xuanfeng smiled faintly. "This isn't the first time a professional has killed a monster in seconds. Here's what we'll do: he will automatically be awarded first place in this exam and given 100 points for that ranking. Then, we'll create a second test for him. If he passes it, award him an additional 1,000 points. I'll personally cover the cost of those extra points if needed."

The other examiners protested immediately. "Master Ning, you must be joking. There's no need for you to contribute points. We'll handle it as you've suggested."

The plan was set. Marsh would undergo a second test.

---

Marsh stood calmly in his enclosed space, waiting for the next challenge. A new light curtain appeared, and another monster materialized on the other side.

It looked identical to the Wolf Orc Mage he had faced earlier, but its aura was significantly stronger.

"[Candidates are required to complete a second test and kill the monster in front of them.]"

Marsh wasn't surprised by the second test. To him, it seemed logical. He had no idea, however, that he was being treated differently from the other candidates.

The moment the barrier dropped, Marsh acted. He cast Soul Flame again, and just like before, the Wolf Orc Mage let out a scream before collapsing. Dead.

Another instant kill.

---

The examiners watching from the top floor were stunned.

"Again? Another instant kill?"

"That's impossible. This time, the monster's stats were set to match a level-20 legendary-class opponent."

"There's no error. His skills are just that powerful."

They couldn't believe their eyes. The monster's strength had been four levels higher than Marsh's, yet it had fallen just as quickly as the first.

"Does he have some overpowered equipment?" one examiner speculated.

"No," another replied. "He's only level 16. Even if he had rare items, they wouldn't explain this level of power. His skill must be the key."

The examiners turned to Ning Xuanfeng for guidance.

Ning Xuanfeng shook his head. "No further tests are necessary. His abilities speak for themselves. Let's move on to the second round of exams."

---

The majestic voice echoed throughout the tower.

"Candidates in the main battle category, the first round of exams is over.

"The total number of participants was 632. Of those, 522 have passed."

Marsh glanced at the rankings that appeared before him.

1. Marsh – 0.1 seconds, Points: 100

2. Zuo Mei – 3.2 seconds, Points: 70

3. Jeny – 5.2 seconds, Points: 40

4. Wang Zihao – 5.5 seconds, Points: 10

Marsh's time of 0.1 seconds placed him firmly in first. Zuo Mei followed in second with 3.2 seconds, while Jeny took third with 5.2 seconds. Everyone else, including the notoriously arrogant Wang Zihao, trailed far behind.

Wang Zihao's face turned red with fury as he stared at the rankings. "This must be a mistake! There's no way anyone could finish in 0.1 seconds. That's absurd! The top spot should belong to me!"

Many other candidates were equally incredulous. Marsh's result seemed almost supernatural to them.

Jeny, however, wasn't upset. Smiling as she looked at the rankings, she muttered, "Not bad, Marsh. I won't let you beat me so easily next time!"

Kevin, meanwhile, couldn't hide his amazement. "Boss Marsh is on another level. This is insane!"

Marsh, standing silently, scratched his nose. "Was that too much?" he wondered.

Despite the ease with which he had passed, over 100 candidates had been eliminated in the first round, proving the difficulty of the exam for many.

---

The majestic voice continued.

"The second round of exams for the main battle category is about to begin. Candidates may choose their difficulty level.

"Be warned: there may be casualties in the second round. Candidates are advised to proceed with caution.

"If you encounter danger, you may call out to forfeit, and your exam will be terminated. Your score will be based on your performance up to that point."

The second round's rules were announced clearly.

This round resembled a dungeon, with three difficulty levels: Normal, Nightmare, and Hell. Each level offered different rewards:

Normal Difficulty: 1 point per monster killed.

Nightmare Difficulty: 3 points per monster killed.

Hell Difficulty: 5 points per monster killed.

The challenge would last 30 minutes, during which participants would earn points based on the number of monsters they defeated.

For Marsh, the real challenge was just beginning.
