Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Why Are There So Many?
A black vortex appeared in front of Marsh, and two skeleton warriors materialized—one on the left, one on the right—just in time to block the incoming arrows.
The sharp arrows collided with the skeleton warriors with a loud metallic sound, but they didn't cause any damage.
The two skeleton warriors immediately charged toward the two archers, their bones clicking ominously as they moved.
"There's more than one summoned creature," Zhao Ji's face darkened, his expression becoming increasingly grim.
He hadn't expected Marsh to summon more than one creature. However, it wasn't entirely unheard of for summoners to have multiple summons. In fact, one of the members of their guild had four summoned creatures.
"Block them!" Zhao Ji shouted loudly, and a knight rushed to intercept the skeleton warriors, holding his shield high to protect himself from the oncoming attack.
With the knight's defense keeping him safe, Zhao Ji quickly raised his staff, pointing it at Marsh while chanting a spell under his breath.
"Killing a summoner is more difficult than killing their summoned creatures," Zhao Ji muttered, focusing on his next move.
"Dancing Fire Snake!" he called out.
A fiery serpent erupted from his staff, spiraling toward Marsh.
Behind him, a few members of the Dynasty Guild spoke in hushed tones. "Too bad, that's a skill only a level 20 mage can learn. It's one of the rarest and strongest spells before the second class advancement."
"Marsh is in trouble now."
"Not many mages can master this skill. Less than a third of them can."
Some of the onlookers from the back were growing concerned about Marsh's situation.
But Marsh didn't flinch. He remained calm, unfazed by the incoming attack. A vortex swirled in front of him again, and this time, twenty skeleton warriors emerged from the darkness.
The fiery snake swirled wildly toward them, exploding in a brilliant flash of flames.
The skeleton warriors charged forward, undeterred by the fire, and rushed toward the Dynasty Guild's members.
Zhao Ji's face twisted in disbelief. "Why are there so many?"
He had been surprised by the appearance of three skeleton warriors earlier, but now, twenty of them had appeared all at once. This number had far surpassed the size of their team.
He didn't panic, though. The Dynasty Guild had been through many battles and had experienced fighters. Their cooperation was impeccable.
"Form a team! Line up and fight!" Zhao Ji barked the orders, his voice steady despite the overwhelming odds.
The guild members quickly formed a battle line, with knights at the front to absorb the attacks, while warriors, mages, and archers positioned themselves to deal damage from the middle. Support characters positioned themselves at the back.
Zhao Ji, seeing their quick response, felt a surge of confidence. Although they were surrounded by skeleton warriors, this wasn't an uncommon situation. He was certain that they would come out on top.
Within moments, the support characters had cast various enhancement buffs on the team—strength boosts, agility boosts, spirit buffs, and even speed stimulation. Every boost was given in rapid succession, showcasing the team's tight coordination.
In less than 30 seconds, every member of the team had been buffed. Their movements and reactions were flawless.
Confidence returned to Zhao Ji's face.
Even though they were surrounded, he knew that their superior coordination would carry them through.
Meanwhile, Marsh turned to Kevin, Morkel, and the others behind him.
"You guys, fall back," he said calmly.
No one dared question his command. Everyone instantly began to retreat, quickly putting distance between themselves and the fight, and within seconds, they were several meters away.
Zhao Ji glanced over in confusion but didn't overthink it. He focused on the battle, sure that they could handle the skeleton warriors.
But then, flames burst out in front of him, followed by a scream from one of the archers.
The archer's vitality plummeted dramatically, and he was on the verge of death. However, before anyone could react, a healing spell landed on the archer, bringing him back from the brink of death.
Zhao Ji's heart skipped a beat as he remembered Marsh's class. Not only was he a summoner, but he was a necromancer.
This made things far more complicated than he had anticipated.
"Nurse, focus! You need to heal quickly; the opponent has powerful magic!" Zhao Ji barked, his voice filled with urgency.
The team grew even more nervous. No one expected one person to cause so much chaos, especially with such powerful summoned creatures.
"Focus on one target!" Marsh's calm voice rang out again.
He looked at the knight on the outermost edge of the formation, struggling to hold off multiple skeleton warriors at once. The knight was feeling the crushing pressure—facing more than ten skeleton warriors at once was no easy feat. It was far worse than any dungeon boss they had fought before.
Despite the constant healing spells falling on him, the knight was barely holding his ground, his life hanging by a thread.
Marsh's command came again. "Attack."
The skeleton warriors responded instantly, their bones clashing as they attacked the knight, unleashing a flurry of blows.
A flame erupted above the knight, and instinctively, he activated his ultimate defense.
A shimmering aura enveloped him, and the pressure on him decreased significantly.
But the soul flame from Marsh's necromancer magic ignored the knight's defense and attacked his very soul.
Even with the ultimate defense, the knight let out a horrific scream as the soul flame took its toll.
Fortunately, the team's healer was quick to respond, casting a healing spell to ease the knight's suffering.
The ultimate defense, which was meant to last for at least 40 seconds, began to fade after just 20 seconds.
At the moment it vanished, Marsh gave his next command.
"Use your skills!"
As soon as the words left his mouth, he cast the soul flame again. The attack hit the knight's soul once more, and the knight screamed in agony.
Simultaneously, the skeleton warriors landed another round of brutal blows, overwhelming the knight.
Before the healer could react, the knight was dead, his body collapsing into a heap.
The entire battlefield shifted. The gap in their defenses had been created.
"Run!" Zhao Ji yelled, his face pale as he realized the situation was dire.
But Marsh shook his head. It was already too late.
One of the skeleton warriors grabbed the knight's lifeless body and threw it into the air.
The knight's body exploded.
A loud boom echoed across the battlefield.
The explosion, fueled by the knight's considerable health, caused massive damage to anyone within a 20-meter radius, dealing 200% of the knight's health as damage.
Zhao Ji's last thought was a loud, confused noise.
"Boom!"
The knight's body detonated like a thunderclap, taking down everyone in its range.
When the smoke cleared, only the scattered corpses of the Dynasty Guild remained on the ground.
Not a single member had survived.
The battlefield was littered with the remnants of their team.
Marsh didn't even glance at the destruction. He calmly gathered the spoils and turned away.
