Chapter 76: Slaughter Game (Part Five)【Thank You Yinyang, Lifes Wish of Wearing Green】_1
Gu Mian wasn't far from the police station to begin with, so he found the South City Police Station in no time.
Of course, there was also a North City Police Station in this city, but it was quite a bit further away from him.
Gu Mian initially planned to scour the police station for any firearms. Even though ordinary people were not adept at using guns, he was different.
He had practiced target shooting during military training.
At that time, he was given a nickname—the Sharpshooter.
Not because Gu Mian had excellent aim, but because the gun misfired as soon as it got into his hand, astonishingly blasting a target more than twenty meters away into two halves.
His peers in the next class were so startled that their faces turned pale and they dropped their hats.
After that, Gu Mian never touched guns again. Now that he finally had a chance to handle one, he wasn't about to let the opportunity pass by.
However, he didn't find any firearms in the police station. This reality show had gone for more than a hundred seasons, so any guns that might have been there were probably taken by participants of earlier seasons.
After combing through the entire station, he only found a half-dome helmet, a chair leg taken from a broken chair, and a three-wheeler that was almost out of battery.
He sat on the tricycle, wearing the dusty helmet and driving around, looking like a Japanese soldier entering a village in a war movie—if only he had a small flag.
But before Gu Mian could determine his next target, he heard a loud shout from the library up ahead—"Fuck!"
This vigorous, roguishly arrogant voice, tinged with a hint of comedy, clearly belonged to a Fatty who had encountered danger.
Gu Mian immediately drove towards the library.
He hadn't been driving for long when he saw a figure running out from the library. It was Fatty.
Hot on Fatty's heels was a white, twisted, gruesome figure.
Gu Mian watched as Fatty ran frantically onto the road.
He picked up the chair leg from the front of the tricycle with one hand and slammed on the brakes, intending to get out and save Fatty.
But to his surprise, the world had conspired against him again, as the brakes failed.
Exasperated, Gu Mian looked up and yelled at the approaching Fatty, "Get out of my way! The brakes are failing again!"
Fatty may look cumbersome, but he was actually quite agile.
Upon hearing the yell, he looked up and saw Gu Mian driving the tricycle straight towards him, and the tricycle was just about to hit him.
In the blink of an eye, Fatty took off his coat and rolled to the side, hastily rolling himself into a patch of weeds.
Meanwhile, he heard the sound of the tricycle speeding past his ear, followed by a "BAM."
Fatty spat out the weeds from his mouth and turned to look at the road, only to see the tricycle carrying a white object at a high speed, and then fiercely crashing into the wall of a building up ahead.
The buildings here already looked like they were about to collapse, so the crash stirred up quite a lot of dust.
"PTUI! PTUI!" Gu Mian alighted from the tricycle, chair leg in hand, and spat out the dirt from his mouth.
At this moment, Fatty scrambled over. "Doctor…"
With a wave of his hand to dispel the dust in front of him, Gu Mian looked at the front of the tricycle.
The thing that had been following Fatty was almost split into two by the collision. It was nearly amputated at the waist. It wasn't particularly attractive to begin with; now it was even more hideous.
However, one could still barely make out that it might once have been a human.
It had the standard human features: two eyes, a nose, and a mouth.
Its whole body seemed to be devoid of bones, stretched to a length of two meters. Its skin was deathly pale, like the hosts and cameramen Gu Mian had seen before—as if it too, had rolled in flour.
"An Upper Class Person?" Gu Mian kicked the lifeless thing. "You can't call it a person anymore, right? It's actually a ghost?"
It was wearing a white lab coat, which is why at first glance, it appeared to be a white monster.
There seemed to be an ID badge pinned to the front of the lab coat.
Gu Mian bent over to take off the badge and saw—"Kuangcheng Central Hospital, Deputy Head of Respiratory Department, Frandy."
"It looks like this thing was indeed a person and even had a quite pretentious name," Gu Mian thought for a moment before pocketing the badge. "And it was a doctor."
In the livestream room, Mr. Slaughter stared at the large screen with a strange expression.
He seemed to find it hard to understand how that white monster died. After a while, he managed a fitting smile. "Long time no see, Frandy. I didn't expect you to be humiliated by a Lower Class Person like this. And it seems like he's a smuggled Lower Class Person..."
As he said this, he glanced at the cameraman. "Inform the Order Guard. Tell them it seems like they can clean up the restricted zone now."
"As you have all seen," Mr. Slaughter looked at the camera, "for decades, we've been incapable of dealing with the monsters inside the restricted zone. But now, their survival ability seems to have suddenly weakened.
"This is a great opportunity. Next, we will send an Order Guard team to the restricted zone for clean-up. Please treasure this episode, as it may be the last episode of Slaughter Game."
"Doctor," Fatty sidled up to Gu Mian, "is it... dead?"
Gu Mian kicked the thing on the ground again. "It should be as dead as dead can be."
Only then did Fatty feel relief. He stretched his neck to look around. "By the way, Doctor, have you not encountered Brother Chu?"
Gu Mian shook his head. "The first person I met here is you."
"Ah…" Fatty nodded a bit slowly. "So, should we go look for Brother Chu?"
Though they had to find Brother Chu, they also had other objectives for entering this instance.
"I'm going to go in and look around the library first," Gu Mian put his hand in his pocket. "I have a general idea of the city map, but the library probably has even more detailed ones."
He might even find a map showing where "Jin Hu's Redemption" is.
"Do you want to come in too?" Gu Mian asked Fatty while heading towards the library, wielding the chair leg.
Fatty seemed a bit reluctant because he had just narrowly escaped from the library.
But he also felt that staying alone on the street would be even more dangerous. So, without much hesitation, he followed Gu Mian into the library.
In the darkness, Fatty lit the surroundings with his flashlight.
Gu Mian stood at the entrance of the library and scanned his surroundings.
Libraries like this usually have a small rack near the entrance with booklets introducing the city, detailing tourist spots and its history.
As expected, he spotted a small rack not far from the entrance, displaying several thin booklets.
"I think we should first get clear about the history of this city. For example, why it became like this, why it was designated a restricted zone, and where these monsters came from," Gu Mian said, picking up one of the booklets from the rack and glancing through it.
He hadn't expected to find much useful information in the booklet, but on closer inspection, it contained more information than he had anticipated.
