Chapter 22: C Iron monster should be killed in one go
The horde of monsters trampled trees and raised dust, but gradually, they thinned and then stopped; Litha couldn't help but looked at their retreating form in frustration; that's her money running away. What in the hell is going on in the forest.
She removed the shield around them, and the smell of dust and the musty smell of different monsters enveloped them. "Let's be careful. Whatever can make monsters run like that shouldn't be taken lightly."
"I will take the lead since I have the best eyesight and hearing." Jael said, then he activated his 'sword,' his right hand cracked, the flesh shifted, and then fangs started to grow upward, the tip sharp and deadly, forming wing like, but instead of feathers, they were all long fangs.
He then started to lead them through the undergrowth, their steps made soft by the trampled ground. The forest was now silent, too silent; even the winds stopped, quite shifting.
Jael suddenly caught a distant woosh, a brushing of leaves against flesh. "Something is coming!" He raised his weapon in readiness as they stopped moving and put their backs against each other.
A crack, like the splitting of tree and this time they heard as whatever it was got closer. Then it busted out of the clearing, a mass of scales and sharper claws. The monster is shaped like a kangaroo, but its body is all red scales with long claws and long snout filled with fangs.
It crouched in front them its eyes taking them on.
Their first thought was, "This is not the monster that shook the forest' and they felt relief. Jael's second thought was that the monster didn't look strong enough to think it was the same height as him.
The monster growled softly, almost in confusion as it looked Jael, its eyes dilated as it sniffed him. Smelling the chaos in him but seeing a soft flesh human. Then the monster's mouth opened and a long tongue darted out, tasting the air.
Jael also felt familiar with it, Hermit sent it through their connection. "It's a chaos monster," more images and emotions were sent through their links. "Be careful, their claws and fangs are covered in a substance that can rot the blood."
The others didn't question where he heard that, they just nodded. Thankfully, it seems like a rank C Iron monster. One of them should have no problem dealing with it. Temur and Litha slowly but steadily gave Jael space.
The monster finally decided that Jael was food and leaped at him; its speed was surprising, an explosive power that tore into the ground and propelled it like a bullet.
It brought its two hands down, clawing at his face, and Jael easily held it back with his big sword, pushing it back as the claws bounced aimlessly against his transformed hand. That made Jael relax, 'The monster can not penetrate my sword,' so he made the second move; he uncoiled forward like a spring.
The monster moved to meet him and the two rammed into each other, then they began to fight. The monster had no chance. Jael's every slash felt like thirty blades hitting as one, and the strength in it drove the monster back rapidly.
'Woosh!' The monster dodged one of his slash, and it hit a tree instead; it tore it away, cutting the whole thing down in one go.
Temur watched them go at it. At first, Jael wasn't sure about his power against the monster, but now he's realizing just how powerful he is. It won't last long.
Jael did as if he was going to slash again, and the monster brought its hands together in a defensive posture. Instead, it was kicked solidly and sent back, allowing Jael to thrust into its skull with a crunch.
The monster collapsed.
Jael looked at it 'I was even out of breath' The essence rose from the monster like an invisible smoke in the air and settled into him.
He flickered his hand. "That was easy."
"It could be far more easily. A single C Iron monster like that should be brought down in one hit. You don't have time to waste. Don't try to fight it. Just kill it in one powerful strike." Litha said as she went to the monster and put it into her ring.
"But he's here to train, fighting like that can help him..." Temur began.
Litha shook her head. "I can feel the flow of the mana here, something is wrong in this zone."
"Then let's go. Well, see what it is soon enough." Jael said.
They began to move forward; this time, they didn't try to be silent; they increased their speed. Another of the monsters appeared, and this time, Jael didn't try to fight it.
He waited until the monster was close, and then he used his sword; he sent it out like a whip, tearing the monster into two while it was in midair, getting them all sprayed in blood.
His 'sword,' which was his right hand, could be extended forward a few feet since the Hermit could make his hand longer. So that was what he was doing. Each time a monster appeared, he would kill it so fast the monster didn't know what hit them.
The combination of his natural speed and strength. It's like a quick draw technique that Jael sees in old vantage comics before the global Awakening.
Then Temur stopped suddenly after Jael killed the sixth rank C monster. "This is wrong. It's like they are testing us by sending out weak monsters. You see the way they come one at a time when they could all just rush us?"
"Monsters setting traps? There must be an S ra...." Litha suddenly put her hand up and constructed a hasty shield around them; just in time, as something struck them with such force they were swept backward, and Litha's shield broke like a mirror.
Then something strode casually into the clearing.
