Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle

Chapter 886: Bomber

The first strike of his Double Thrust glanced off the bone plating. However, the second pierced through.

The zombie screeched, and its flight was destabilizing.

Shane didn't stop. He spun mid-air, triggering Vortex Spin… Just like that, his Eon Edge carved a wide arc that slashed across the wing membrane, spraying black blood and flesh everywhere…

The zombie shrieked, its flight faltering for a moment before it twisted unnaturally, kicking off a burst of wind pressure that sent Shane drifting sideways.

Shane gritted his teeth. This wasn't just a mindless flying zombie… It was maneuvering with a plan in its head.

However, he was sure that he didn't get the Zombie Lord notification. It means that the strength of this Winged Zombie was most likely Zombie King or Zombie General level.

Shane shot forward, with his armor still thrumming with power.

He followed the flying Zombie and slashed at the underside of the zombie's wing. His blade tore through the thin flesh, cutting deep into the muscles that kept it airborne.

The zombie jerked away, just barely avoiding a full tear. Its wing faltered, wobbling in the air, but it didn't fall.

However, it was close to falling, and Shane was sure of it!

Shane let out a shout and released a shockwave from his Titan's Roar!

The blast hit the creature head-on, making it stumble in the air. Its wings stretched wide, trying to steady itself.

Shane didn't give it another chance.

He closed in again and drove his blade into the joint where the wing met the body. The impact was solid this time and he felt the bone crack under the force. The wing bent awkwardly, no longer moving right.

The zombie screamed, then suddenly turned and dove.

It was heading straight for the Eclipse Domain.

He wasn't sure if it was a suicide but he couldn't let it happen after recalling the Zombies could explode…

Perhaps it was actually planning to dive bomb or something in the first place.

"Not happening." Shane muttered.

He activated his blink skill and shot forward in a blur, catching up in seconds. He aimed for the same joint and struck again. It was hard and fast. The blade sank deep, and the wing folded unnaturally. One side went limp, the other flapped wildly, trying to keep balance.

The zombie started spinning, losing control.

Shane raised his hand and activated Energy Wave, releasing a burst of force that slammed into the zombie's back…

The zombie flailed and it was unable to recover.

Shane followed it down as he pushed for one last attack to send it away from the barrier…

He slashed across the wing again and the tendon snapped as the wing gave out completely.

The zombie dropped like a rock…

Boom!

The explosion echoed through the forest, sending a shockwave that rippled across the treetops. Smoke curled upward from the crater, and the stench of scorched flesh and bone hung in the air.

'That…' Shane was shocked after seeing the explosion… He was indeed correct to push that zombie away from the shelter!

Shane then got the notification he needed to see…

[ You have eliminated a Winged Bomber Zombie. ]

"So you're called Winged Bomber… That's new…" He muttered.

[ Congratulations! You are the first to eliminate Winged Bomber Zombie, a high-tier zombie! ]

[ Hint: Only the first elimination of each Mid-Tier and High-Tier zombie can provide special rewards! ]

[ You can select one reward:

- 1 Advanced Evolution Core

- 1 Uncommon Talent Awakening Scroll

- 1 Random High-Rarity Equipment Crate ]

Shane didn't select anything yet. He closed the prompt and opened his comms.

"Cloud. Status?"

[ Shelter perimeter is still under attack. No breaches. Barrier holding at 82%. Casualties: zero. Ammunition reserves at 61%. Estimated survival probability: stable. ]

Shane nodded. "Good. Keep the outer cannons focused on the northeast flank. I can see from here that's where the main concentration of zombies…."

[ Confirmed. ]

This time, Shane noticed that only 8 seconds were left on his Flight Skill, so he adjusted his descent and dropped toward the crater, landing with a heavy thud at the edge.

The ground was scorched, the soil cracked from the impact. At the center, the remains of the Winged Bomber Zombie sizzled. It was half-vaporized, but still intact enough for a system scan.

He stepped closer.

[ Do you want to retrieve the loot? ]

"Yes."

[ You have earned 500 Experience Points. ]

[ You have earned 250 Reputation Points. ]

[ Loots obtained:

Zombie Cores x120

Reinforced Wingbone x30

Detonation Gland (Stable) x1

Agility Enhancement Bottle x15

Vitality Enhancement Bottle x15

Skybreaker Dive Skill Scroll x1

100mL of Winged Bomber Zombie Blood

Bomber-Type Mutation Sample x1 ]

Shane checked his inventory and saw the Detonation Gland…

With a quick view of its description, he confirmed that it was built to explode on impact…

Just like that, Shane obtained a bomb he might use later against the Zombie Horde.

He glanced at the Skill Scroll and narrowed his eyes.

"Skybreaker Dive…"

It seemed like a good ability, and he was tempted to use it since he felt that there might be more Winged Zombies to come…

For now, Shane turned his gaze back toward the Eclipse Domain.

He activated Veiled Step, cloaking his presence as he sprinted back toward the fortress perimeter. His boots kicked up dust and ash, but his form was nearly invisible to the eye.

By the time he reached the outer wall, the defenders were already in motion. Auto-turrets rotated, a squad of riflemen was repositioning behind a barricade, and a pair of engineers were dragging some Warden Units back to be repaired.

Well, they do have various tokens or items to protect themselves, so they were quite brave…

"Status?" Shane called out.

One of the officers turned. "Northeast is holding, but barely. We've got a cluster of armored types pushing through. No Lords yet, but something's coordinating them. They're not charging blindly."

Shane's eyes narrowed. "Then we're not dealing with a normal wave."

He then turned to his watch…

"Cloud… Mark any abnormal movement patterns. If something's directing this wave, I want to know and point out its location to me."

[ Understood. Scanning for command-type behavior. ]
