Chapter 39
Yuncheng, Central Hospital.
A fluffy yellow Pomeranian walked leisurely down the corridor. It wasn’t until it reached a wall that the puppy turned its head around to make sure no one was nearby and that the surveillance had been destroyed. Then, it quickly hit the wall.
The strange thing was that it didn’t hit the wall but passed through it, entering the room inside.
The puppy stretched its limbs and transformed back into a human form. It turned out to be Huang Dabei, one of Liu Jin’an’s younger brothers.
“How’s it going? Is there any news outside?” Wang Mazi helped Huang Dabei onto a chair and asked anxiously.
Huang Dabei’s face was solemn. “I visited the entire central hospital, and the drug lords surrounded it. They locked up doctors, nurses, and patients separately. If they didn’t listen to them, they wouldn’t give them food.”
Zhang Yaoyao gritted her teeth. “These beasts.”
On the third day of the apocalypse, a group of gangsters suddenly broke into Central Hospital and sealed off the entire building. They had sophisticated equipment, powerful supernatural beings, and their combat capabilities far exceeded those of the Yuncheng police. Even if the resident troops had been dispatched, they would only have been able to surround them, not daring to act rashly.
Everyone in the hospital became their hostage.
Zhang Yaoyao and her group would have been taken prisoner if they hadn’t relied on Wang Mazi’s power to disguise their location. Although the place where Huang Dabei had come in just now looked like a wall, it had actually been Wang Mazi who used his superpower to disguise the door as a wall.
“These people are just beasts. I don’t know how many they killed when they first arrived,” Zhang Yaoyao continued.
Xu Zhaoxin coughed twice and added, “Now that they are locking people up, they must be keeping their lives as a bargaining chip to negotiate terms.”
After getting up, Zhang Yaoyao poured a glass of water and handed it to Xu Zhaoxin. “Your injury can’t be delayed any longer. Try not to talk if you can; otherwise, it will hurt even more if it affects the wound.”
“It’s a small problem, I won’t die,” Xu Zhaoxin said, putting down the glass and glancing at everyone present. “My power is brain enhancement. I’ve calculated it many times before. Although our respective powers can help us hide temporarily, the probability of us escaping on our own is zero.”
“We must get in touch with the outside world, reach cooperation, and work both internally and externally.”
Wang Mazi scratched his head. “Brother Xu, just tell me what I should do.”
Xu Zhaoxin smiled amusedly. “Aren’t you afraid that I’ll sell you out?”
Wang Mazi shook his head decisively. “Boss said that you and Brother Yang are both good people, and I have to listen to you.”
When Liu Jin’an was mentioned, everyone couldn’t help but feel worried. Hospitals protected by the military were in such a mess. How much more dangerous were other places? They didn’t know how Liu Jin’an and the others were doing now—whether they were dead or alive.
.
Liu Jin’an and his entourage, worried about the situation, also drove to the scene. Everyone got out of the car and was startled by the cordon surrounding them and the highly vigilant military personnel. Fortunately, there was an acquaintance in the crowd.
Liu Jin’an quickly waved to Zheng Chunhua.
Zheng Chunhua had been seriously injured in the last battle with the poaching group, and he had broken an arm. Although the arm had been reattached through surgery, it would still take a long time to recover, and the follow-up rehabilitation was undoubtedly a devastating blow to his career. He should have been honourably discharged to recuperate.
However, the police force was short of personnel, and major safety incidents continued. He could only continue to fight on the front line, unable to stop for even a moment.
Seeing Officer Zheng’s hand wrapped in a thick bandage, and his eyes dark blue and black, Liu Jin’an couldn’t help but feel a sense of distress.
“Officer Zheng, I haven’t seen you for a few days. Are you feeling better?” he asked with concern.
Zheng Chunhua smiled and nodded. “It’s much better. Why are you back again? It’s not safe here. Leave now.”
“It’s not safe?” Liu Jin’an was keenly aware of the seriousness in Zheng Chunhua’s tone. Had something happened in the hospital?
“Officer Zheng, could you please take a moment to speak?” Liu Jin’an asked.
Zheng Chunhua hesitated for a moment and agreed. He explained some things to his colleagues and then got into the car with Liu Jin’an.
“Officer Zheng, my friend is still in the hospital. I want to know what happened.” There was a hint of pleading in his tone.
Zheng Chunhua had been in the industry for more than ten years and had seen many suffering people come to him to cry and complain. He could understand Liu Jin’an’s mood. It was just that this vicious incident had been too dangerous. He couldn’t tell Liu Jin’an the details, and it was impossible to let him in and take risks. He could only use an official tone: “Don’t worry, we have mobilized a large number of police forces, combined with the armed police and stationed troops, to ensure the safety of the people in the central hospital.”
Liu Jin’an didn’t buy it. “It’s not convenient for you to say, and I understand. I’ll guess. You just need to tell me whether I’m right or wrong, okay?”
It was really difficult for Zheng Chunhua to refuse his saviour’s request. Besides, it didn’t violate discipline. Understanding that the other party’s silence represented acquiescence, Liu Jin’an felt relieved and asked seriously: “The reason why the hospital was blocked was because of the intruders, right?”
This wasn’t difficult to guess. Anyone with a discerning eye could see it—otherwise, why would there be so much manpower and material resources?
Seeing Zheng Chunhua nodding, Liu Jin’an continued to ask: “The other party has guns?”
He caught the subtle changes in Zheng Chunhua’s expression and instantly realized: “Not only do they have guns, but also other weapons? Could it be that this isn’t just an ordinary kidnapping case, and the other party isn’t just an ordinary gangster?”
“Stop guessing. Knowing the truth will do you no good,” Zheng Chunhua said, marvelling at the young man’s insight. The old policeman couldn’t bear it anymore and tried to interrupt the conversation.
Liu Jin’an probably knew it well, so he finally asked a question: “How many people are there on the other side?”
Zheng Chunhua sighed. “I really don’t know. It is currently estimated that there are at least more than a hundred people.”
“I understand. Thank you, Officer Zheng,” Liu Jin’an said, putting his hand on the other person’s bandaged arm. “In return, I have a gift for you, but you have to keep it a secret.”
With that, he activated the spiritual treasure on his wrist. A warm current flowed into Zheng Chunhua’s body from Liu Jin’an’s palm along the place where the two touched.
Zheng Chunhua looked at Liu Jin’an in disbelief. He didn’t know how to describe this feeling. It was warm and comfortable, like bathing in the morning light of early spring. All around him, grass grew, orioles flew, flowers bloomed, and the rich fragrance enveloped him. It seemed like the patter of spring rain washed away the dust on his body and washed his soul. His blood rushed; the flow endless.
After a while, he slowly opened his eyes, and his lips trembled slightly. His hand was back to its original state! There was no longer a sense of difficulty and stagnation, and even the old problems from the old injuries had been eliminated one by one. He felt more relaxed than ever.
“Be careful, my hand…” He finally found his voice.
Liu Jin’an nodded slightly. “As you can see, I have the ability to heal, but this will consume my powers. I can only heal three people a day.”
In fact, it was ten. He hid that detail and didn’t tell Zheng Chunhua the real situation. But it was enough to surprise Zheng Chunhua.
He held Liu Jin’an’s hand tightly. “Jin’an, our police force needs talents like you. As long as you are willing to come, you can do whatever you want!”
Liu Jin’an: “…”
Although the preparation was very good, he really didn’t plan to stay in Yuncheng!
