Chapter 31
Duan Haiping had not yet woken up when he was teleported over. He was wearing loose silk pyjamas, and his full chest muscles could be vaguely glimpsed behind the collar.
The narrow, starry eyes were closed tightly, restraining the sharpness they usually held, but highlighting his handsomeness.
Looking carefully at the man’s eyebrows, Liu Jin’an had to admit that this was the most handsome face he had ever seen. He was worthy of being a villain, and even his appearance was top-notch.
Suddenly, the man’s eyelashes trembled.
Liu Jin’an witnessed the transformation from a sleepy kitten to a ferocious lion.
“Start working when you wake up,” he said, glancing at the man’s dangerously narrowed eyes, which were full of anger, and pointing to the wooden board on the ground. “Be obedient and pull out the iron nails nailed to the wooden board. I need to create enough space for one person to go down.”
Duan Haiping laughed angrily at being ordered around so naturally. Suppressing his anger, he replied, “I just woke up, and I haven’t even eaten yet.”
The summoned object still needed to sleep?
The summoned object still needed to eat?
With just one look, Duan Haiping understood what Liu Jin’an meant.
He twitched the corner of his mouth and, between throwing a tantrum and complying, chose to start work.
“That’s right. Do it well, Xiao Duan, and I’ll share a bun with you.”
With that, Liu Jin’an moved a chair and sat down to eat breakfast leisurely.
Duan Haiping: “…”
With anger burning in his chest, Duan Haiping used his powers without hesitation and pulled out all the iron nails in the room from the wooden boards.
“I didn’t ask you to pull them all out!”
Liu Jin’an was horrified and quickly stopped Duan Haiping’s wanton destruction. “I’ll point it out to you, and you follow the positions I show you.”
That was more like it.
Duan Haiping regained his balance, feeling satisfied when he saw Liu Jin’an half-kneeling on the ground, crawling on his hands and knees to pick up the wooden boards.
How could there be any reason for Duan Haiping to work alone?
With the concerted efforts of the two, they finally opened a hole leading to the lower cabin.
Liu Jin’an took out a bun and handed it to Duan Haiping. “Xiao Duan, eat this to cushion your stomach.”
Duan Haiping wanted to refuse with a straight face, but the belly was empty, and his stomach growled.
He had no choice but to take the bun from Liu Jin’an’s hand, glare at him, and bite off most of it in one go.
Liu Jin’an stared at Duan Haiping’s noisy belly, his eyes full of curiosity. “Are you really hungry? Do summons also need to eat?”
While talking, he tried to reach out and touch it.
Duan Haiping hurriedly swallowed the bun and protected his endangered silk pyjamas. “What are you doing?”
An honest Liu Jin’an replied, “I want to feel if you have abdominal muscles.”
Duan Haiping: “…”
Was he being teased?
Liu Jin’an leaned closer, but Duan Haiping’s warning look stopped him in his tracks.
He sighed. “If you won’t let me touch you, I won’t. It’s better to touch Zhang Bao. He’s furry, and I can touch him as much as I want.”
Duan Haiping retorted, “That’s because he’s stupid. He’s a stupid pig who can only be slaughtered by others.”
Liu Jin’an held his head, feeling genuinely exhausted from dealing with a summoned object who could argue back.
He had never doubted Xiao Duan’s identity.
Just kidding—if he had summoned Duan Haiping, he would have become a corpse long ago, wouldn’t he? How could that murderous guy has the leisure to fight with him here?
The entrance was finally opened, but Liu Jin’an hesitated, unable to decide whether to go down or not.
His eyes lingered on the rule sheet. The second rule was clearly written: [You are not allowed to go out before the sun sets, and you are not allowed to stay in the cabin after the sun sets.]
Literally speaking, as long as he didn’t step outside the door during the day, he was complying with the rules.
Even if he went down to the bottom of the cabin, he wouldn’t technically be stepping out the door.
But if he were teleported out because of this, not only would he lose the chance to obtain the spiritual treasure, but he would also waste the remaining fourteen days of experience, unable to look after Old Hu and the others.
He had already noticed that after just one night, his superpower had increased by one-fifth.
In a few days, his powers would reach level two.
This speed was much faster than absorbing gallium stone.
“Xiao Duan, go down first and tell me what’s going on below,” Liu Jin’an said after careful consideration.
He decided to postpone the plan to go down to the bottom cabin.
There were still fourteen days left, so he could continue to practice and wait until the last two days to start searching for clues.
Duan Haiping had been angry too many times to count, but by now, he had learned to face such situations expressionlessly.
He pointed at himself and asked, “So the duty of the summoned object is to die for the master?”
Liu Jin’an smiled and replied, “I’m glad you have such awareness.”
The two stared at each other.
Finally, Duan Haiping compromised and said, “Okay.”
He stood on the edge of the hole, and just one second before jumping down, he stretched out his long arms and pulled the young man into his embrace.
Liu Jin’an clearly didn’t expect Xiao Duan to dare do such a thing. The sudden weightlessness made him instinctively grab onto everything he could touch around him.
The moment they landed, he thought in a daze that Xiao Duan really did have abdominal muscles—sturdy ones that felt good to the touch.
“Have you touched enough, huh?”
A weak voice came from beneath him. Liu Jin’an quickly stood up, putting his hands behind his back as if nothing had happened.
He couldn’t quite process what he had been touching.
Duan Haiping snorted coldly, clutching his painful chest, and stood up with Liu Jin’an’s help.
“I wasn’t teleported out. It seems that the bottom cabin is allowed to enter during the day,” Liu Jin’an murmured to himself. “No, it’s not just during the day. If you follow the logic of Rule 2, you could also stay in the bottom cabin at night.”
Seeing that Liu Jin’an was lost in thought, Duan Haiping didn’t disturb him.
He found a relatively clean box and sat down. If Liu Jin’an didn’t need him, he certainly wasn’t going to go looking for tasks on his own.
The air was thick with the smell of decay and dampness. Liu Jin’an frowned slightly, looking around.
The bottom cabin was dimly lit, with only a narrow beam of light filtering through the gaps in the wooden boards.
After a moment of thought, he took Duan Haiping’s hand.
“Follow me closely. Don’t get lost,” he warned.
Duan Haiping stared at their intertwined hands, frowning deeply.
Feeling the resistance from Duan Haiping’s arm, Liu Jin’an turned around and asked, puzzled, “What are you doing standing there and not following me?”
“Nothing,” Duan Haiping replied curtly.
Liu Jin’an didn’t doubt him and conjured a small ball of light on his fingertips, illuminating the space around them.
It had probably been a long time since anyone had been there, as debris was scattered across the planks of the bottom cabin.
He bent slightly, trying to get a clearer look at the ground.
Suddenly, a dark shadow flashed past him.
“Be careful!” Duan Haiping didn’t hesitate. He exerted force on his hands and quickly pulled Liu Jin’an into his arms.
The boy, caught off guard, instinctively wrapped his arms around the man’s neck.
Their skin brushed against each other, their breaths mingled, and the space between them all but disappeared.
Their eyes met.
In the dim halo of light, an indescribable ambiguity danced in their gazes.
