Chapter 218: Ch 218: The City of Dragons- Part 4
The blinding radiance coursed through Kana until she thought her body would tear apart from the strain.
Her lungs burned, her chest convulsed, and the weight of the dragon goddess's hand pressing into her very essence left her trembling on the edge of collapse.
Then, amid the storm inside her, a sharp beep echoed.

[Adjusting framework: human → goddess.]
Kana's mind reeled. She could barely understand the words, let alone focus on them. They came and went in bursts, fragments of meaning scattered through the haze of pain.
[Final confirmation… complete.]
The world fell quiet.
The power stopped flooding her veins and, for the first time since the goddess had touched her, Kana could breathe again.
She sucked in air greedily, each inhale sharp and trembling, her body sagging forward until her palms pressed against the cold stone beneath her.
Sweat dripped down her face, but there was no more fire burning her alive.
Her chest still throbbed where the dragon goddess's hand had sunk into her, yet it was no longer agony—it was a lingering hum, like a second heartbeat pulsing deep within her. She dared to open her eyes.
The sight startled her. The chamber around her seemed sharper, every color vivid beyond what she had known as human.
She could sense the flow of energy in the walls, in the air itself, as though the world had opened an unseen layer to her.
She exhaled slowly. But instead of relief, terror settled in her stomach. This wasn't her anymore. She no longer felt like a human.
The weight of the new power inside her, vast and unshaped, pressed down until she thought it might crush her from the inside.
The dragon goddess finally withdrew her hand, straightening with an expression of satisfaction.
"It is done. She has awakened. She is no longer a child fumbling in the dark. Kana is ready for the final battle."
She declared. Her eyes turned toward Ruby, her tone edged with command.
Ruby crossed her arms, her pink gaze unreadable, but her silence was telling.
The goddess did not linger. She turned sharply and moved toward the doors, her presence filling the chamber like thunder rolling across mountains.
Her words carried out beyond the walls, reaching the priests waiting anxiously outside.
"The dragon race will join this fight. Our blades, our fire, and our wings will march alongside the chosen."
The priests froze in stunned silence. Murmurs rippled through them, disbelief coloring every face.
Dragons had remained apart for ages, never bending to the wars of others. To commit now—at the goddess's command—was unthinkable.
Yet none dared to voice it aloud. One priest opened his mouth as though to protest, only for the weight of his goddess's gaze to pin him where he stood.
Their protests withered before they ever found breath. In the presence of their goddess, no voice could rise in defiance.
Reluctantly, the priests bowed, already dispersing to prepare their people for war.
Inside, Kana still knelt where she had collapsed, trying to steady herself. Her hands trembled against the floor, her breath ragged.
She could still feel the alien hum within her—immense, terrifying, and hers.
The heavy footsteps of Lysera and Irielle broke through the silence as they rushed toward her.
Relief and worry sharpened their features, but before they could reach her, the dragon goddess's voice cut across the chamber.
"Enough."
They froze.
"She needs time. Do not crowd her now. Let her steady herself, or the awakening will break her."
Irielle's jaw tightened.
"She's our companion. We have the right—"
The goddess's gaze silenced her instantly.
"You will wait. Rest. She will come to you when she is ready."
Lysera took a half-step forward despite the warning, her eyes darting to Kana, but before she could speak further, priests appeared at the door.
They lowered their heads apologetically and moved between the goddess and the two women.
"By Her Holiness's will, you must come with us."
One said gently.
"No! You expect us to leave her like this? She needs us!"
Irielle snapped, pushing against the priest's hand.
Lysera's voice was lower, heavy with reluctant fury.
"You can't separate us."
But the dragon goddess did not yield.
"You will do as I command. Or shall I remind you where you stand?"
The priests hesitated, visibly afraid, but they obeyed. Two stepped forward and carefully but firmly guided Lysera and Irielle away from the chamber.
They struggled, protesting until their voices echoed through the halls, but the goddess's will was absolute. In the end, even they could not fight it.
Kana remained kneeling, her head low, her heart still pounding with the alien rhythm inside her.
She barely registered their protests fading down the corridor, her thoughts consumed by the storm of what she had just become.
For the first time since she had arrived in this world, she was no longer human. She was something else. Something far greater—and far more terrifying.
And she had no idea what that meant for her, or for anyone else.
Kana sat motionless on the stone floor long after the others were gone, her breathing uneven.
The silence in the chamber felt oppressive, filled only with the low hum of power vibrating in her veins.
She curled her fingers into fists, but even that small motion sent sparks of energy twitching across her skin.
Ruby finally stepped closer, kneeling down so she was at eye level with Kana. Her expression was softer than before, though her voice carried its usual guarded tone.
"You feel it now, don't you? The difference."
Kana swallowed hard.
"It feels… too much. Like I'll break apart if I move the wrong way."
Ruby tilted her head.
"That's because you haven't learned how to shape it yet. Power without control is nothing but chaos. You'll need time—and resolve—to master it."
Kana met Ruby's gaze. For the first time, she noticed the faint unease in the goddess's eyes, like even Ruby didn't know what Kana's awakening truly meant.
Her chest tightened. She had wanted strength to protect others, but this? This was beyond anything she imagined.
Still, as she clenched her fists tighter, she whispered.
"Then I'll learn. No matter how long it takes."
