CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE: A NEW TARGET AT THE SAND VILLAGE.
‘What did he say? Genjutsu doesn’t work on him? Is he even human?’ Itachi thought but was pushed away by Gilgamesh.
“Unfortunately for me, the laws of the village protect you, if not…” Gilgamesh said with a smile.
“Don’t get cocky. There are ways to take you down easily, even without casual genjutsu.” Itachi responded as he deactivated his sharingan.
“Let’s get back on business. Bring the one you fought here and let’s get back on track, we need to be on the move.” Itachi said as Gilgamesh nodded and went back to the entrance of the cave.
“You can come out now.” Gilgamesh said.
“What about the others?” Mura asked, looking behind him lay burnt and unconscious ninjas.
“What about them?” Gilgamesh asked.
“What about me? Aren’t you going to come down here to restrain me?” Mura asked.
“As much as you don’t pose a threat to me, would it not be stupid to just walk in here after giving you time to prepare whatever you need to ensure your escape?” Gilgamesh asked again.
‘He might not be so naïve after all.’ Mura thought as he stood up and walked towards the entrance.
As he was just a few centimeters from Gilgamesh, towering over him at six foot one, he knelt before Gilgamesh.
“Please, take me in. I am nothing but a sword waiting to be used by the right wielder. For so long I wandered the lands in search of someone I would follow till my death. I have been swindled once by the one I once served. He left me in the heat of combat. If I am left to rot in prison, I would rather just take my life.” Mura proclaimed.
“I don’t sense any lie from you. But what if I cower in fear of the enemy and leave you just like your former master left you?” Gilgamesh asked.
“Haha, you might be a high level sensory type ninja but even I, no, even someone like me can sense you are too proud to do that. Something tells me you would rather die than cower before your enemy, even if he or she is more powerful than you, master.” Mura said with a laugh while kneeling.
“Whatever, I am taking you in anyway.” Gilgamesh said as he turned away from him. Mura smiled at his answer.
“…As a prisoner of course. You think I call the shots here?” I have a captain overseeing this mission. Gilgamesh concluded.
Realization dawned on Mura as he recalled Gilgamesh talking about a captain outside. Releasing a sigh, Mura looked downcast as he looked at the grass with a bleak expression.
Gilgamesh went behind his back and tied his hands and feet with enough give for movement.
Itachi decided to leave the two ninjas that Gilgamesh tied up and brought the tied up captain back with him and made him and Mura walk ahead of the cart.
The cart drivers image of the two increased as he saw he captured ninjas walking in front of the carriage, not that they cared about his impression of themselves but rather the success of the mission which showed credibility and accountability of Konoha especially after they lost a powerhouse like Minato. It’s not like as if The Third couldn’t be considered the strongest Kage at the moment, but he was old.
After five and a half days at walking speed with little rest, going through the desert and making the captured ninja fight the bandits in the desert they finally made their way to the sand village. Mura put aside his feelings about his former boss and fought the bandits in his way almost effortlessly and went back to being After going to the Kazekage’s office and confirming the end of their mission and safety of their client and his goods, the Kazekage stamped the mission letter and Itachi and Gilgamesh left the office.
“Are they the future of Konoha? Those children did well surviving the bandits all the way here.” The Kazekage with pale red hair commented to his advisor after Itachi and Gilgamesh left.
“They probably are. It is indeed quite the feat to survive the journey unscathed. But I heard from the guards at the gate that they even captured bandits and made them fight other bandits on their way here. They are not only strong but resourceful.” His advisor responded.
“Ho, even that little blonde that looks like he might be Gaara’s age mate? This is why I want to make more quality ninjas in the village. Our economic situation is not good at all, and the geographical area is not even helping at all. Gaara, you need to become stronger.” The Fourth Kazekage said to himself as he looked up at the ceiling.
.
.
Gilgamesh scanned the village and found someone with high levels chakra that seemed abnormal for a human to have. It was like Naruto’s but even smaller, still it made the chakra of everyone in the village put together barely hold a candle to its massiveness.
‘Tch, if I could make a shadow clone, I could have left it with Itachi and gone to see that person.’ Gilgamesh sulked in his head.
‘Hmm?’ Itachi thought when he saw Gilgamesh looking uncomfortable.
“Do you want to try the local cuisine but don’t have enough money? I can lend you some money but you have to pay me once you are paid your salary for the completed mission. Missions like this pay us a lot more than missions done around the village.” Itachi stated as he tried to cheer Gilgamesh up, for a second, he saw his little brother for second complaining without saying anything like him.
“Is the heat getting to you captain? Do I look like I am hungry? If you are looking for an excuse to try the local cuisine you can go ahead and try, don’t involve me in your schemes.” Gilgamesh taunted expecting Itachi to chase after him so he can make his way to his new target.
Itachi was reminded again of who Gilgamesh was and wondered why he even tried to defend him when the other Anbu ninjas wanted to bully him, he wondered why he is even trying? Is the heat really getting to him?
Itachi simply sighed and looked ahead.
‘Alright, since you wont take the bait, I will be the bait!’ Gilgamesh thought as he jumped high and connected his jump to one of the tallest buildings around and began running to his target.
