Chapter 204: Furuta’s Hidden Thoughts
"Of course you could. It just depends on whether you're willing to put in the time to study."
Byakuya said calmly.
From his point of view, Eto had more than enough intelligence to succeed academically. After all, she had never attended school in her life and still managed to become a best-selling author through pure self-study.
"I'll give it a shot. I guess I'll just need to pick up some prep books."
Eto replied.
"You'll need to prepare for the national entrance exams and the university-specific ones. If everything goes well, you'll probably end up taking the tests around the same time as Minami and Arima."
Byakuya nodded.
He figured that a year of preparation—maybe even less—would be enough for Eto.
"What about you? Will you study with me?"
Eto asked.
"Absolutely."
Byakuya nodded without hesitation.
After all, he had been transported into this world just after turning eighteen—meaning he never got the chance to attend college back home.
So why not seize the opportunity here and patch up that regret?
"Alright then, let's study together"
Eto said with a smile.
1st Ward – Washuu Residence.
Tsuneyoshi was making preparations to take Kichimura Washuu — also known as Furuta — to Germany as Byakuya had suggested.
"Dad, can Rize come with us?"
Furuta asked suddenly.
"That depends on whether she's willing to go..."
Tsuneyoshi replied.
Since their falling out, Furuta and Rize hadn't seen each other. He'd been pouring all his time and energy into preparing to be the next leader of the Washuu Clan, leaving no time to mend things with her.
The longer the silence stretched, the more unlikely a reconciliation became.
Tsuneyoshi, of course, had long noticed that Furuta had feelings for Rize. Though she had originally been chosen as a womb for the clan — a vessel to produce offspring with Tsuneyoshi — he himself had never been interested in such twisted traditions. He didn't even like young girls. It was all just the old ways of the clan.
"I don't know if she's still willing..."
Furuta murmured, a hint of sadness in his voice.
"You should go find her and talk it out directly. Be honest. She might agree."
Tsuneyoshi suggested.
"But go alone—she probably doesn't want to see me."
Which was understandable. Rize's hatred of the Washuu clan wasn't going to disappear after just a few days.
"Okay"
Furuta nodded.
He decided to ask for help from someone he trusted — his "big brother" Byakuya.
He left the estate alone.
He knew that Byakuya and Eto usually spent most of their time at a coffee shop in the 20th Ward called Anteiku, so heading there was his best bet.
However, this was Furuta's first time in the 20th Ward. He rarely ventured far from home.To find the café quickly, he decided to ask for directions.
"Um, excuse me, do you know where—"
He stopped a woman walking nearby—tall, well-dressed, and quite beautiful. But before he could finish his sentence, she interrupted him.
"Aww! What a cute little boy! What's your name? Want to come play at my house?"
Her eyes gleamed like a predator spotting prey.
"No, I was just trying to—"
"Don't be shy! My house is big and cozy. I've got plenty of snacks and fun things to play with."
She didn't even let him finish. She grabbed his hand, clearly trying to take him with her.
Furuta didn't resist immediately — he didn't want to hurt her by accident.
Just then, a tall man with white hair stepped between them.
It wasn't Byakuya or Arima — it was Yoshimura.
Having gone too long without fresh human meat, Yoshimura had aged rapidly. Even ten years before the events of the main story, he looked much like this.
"Sorry, he's with us. Got separated and wandered off."
Yoshimura said with a smile.
"Oh, alright then..."
The woman finally backed off and left.
"Thank you."
Furuta said politely.
He didn't recognize Yoshimura — he'd never met him before.
"No problem."
Yoshimura replied with a gentle smile.
But Yoshimura recognized Furuta instantly.
It wasn't hard to guess he was from the Washuu clan.
He had just happened to be passing by when he saw Furuta in a bit of trouble. Honestly, Kuzen had stepped in as much to protect the woman as the boy. Whether it was a ghoul or a half-human, normal humans simply didn't stand a chance.
"By the way, do you know where the Anteiku café is?"
Furuta asked.
"Sure I do—I'm actually the owner."
Yoshimura answered.
"Huh?"
Furuta blinked in surprise, not expecting the café's manager to look like this.
"Come with me. Are you here to meet someone?"
Yoshimura asked as he led the way.
"Yes. I'm looking for Byakuya."
Furuta nodded.
"Perfect. He's inside right now."
Yoshimura said.
A few minutes later, they arrived at the café.
"Byakuya, someone's here to see you."
Yoshimura called out as they stepped inside.
"Oh?"
Byakuya turned to look—and saw Furuta.
"Furuta? I thought you guys had already left for Germany."
"We were about to... but I want to bring Rize with me."
Furuta replied.
"So... you two had a fight, didn't you?"
Byakuya asked, suddenly remembering he hadn't seen Rize around the Washuu estate recently.
Those two were usually inseparable. Their sudden silence was a clear sign of a serious falling-out.
And judging by Furuta's face, it wasn't something minor.
"Yeah..."
Furuta nodded.
"So what exactly happened? You came here looking for help, didn't you?"
Byakuya asked.
Furuta took a deep breath—and began to explain the entire story of what happened between him and Rize.
