Getting Stronger By Fighting

Chapter 287 Grandmaster?_1

The white car's driver hadn't fully reacted when the violent impact threw him back, leaving him dazed and light-headed.

In the black sedan that had blocked the white one, the driver had slumped completely over in his seat, seemingly unconscious.

Inside their car, Yang Cui, who had initially looked anxious and eager to help, sank back into her seat, feeling suddenly older as she met the gazes of Wang Zhan and Yao Yao.

Nevertheless, she tightened her grip on Wang Zhan's calloused palm, her expression somewhat unnatural as she asked, "Are they here for you?"

Meeting his mother's gaze, Wang Zhan knew she understood.

He couldn't change things. His mother might appear fiery, but she was always eager to help when she could. This was why she was so well-liked everywhere she went, and why so many people had been willing to help look after him and his sister since they were children.

Therefore, Wang Zhan nodded, not trying to hide it, and said softly, "Yes, they're likely here for me. I offended some people in the Federation. But I didn't expect them to come for me just after I got off the plane."

Who could have foreseen this?

The Original Organization had already suffered a significant loss at his hands. Previously, Wang Zhan had even encountered a deranged woman in Chu State, likely connected to them. However, their brazen recklessness this time thoroughly infuriated Wang Zhan, causing his brow to furrow habitually as he contemplated a counter-strike.

Yang Cui looked somewhat heartbroken. She looked into Wang Zhan's eyes and asked, "Can't we just live peacefully as ordinary people, our family staying together in one place?"

Wang Zhan was speechless.

"Mom…"

Fortunately, Yao Yao, who was driving, spoke up. "Auntie, do you remember the story I told you?"

At that moment, Yao Yao's expression was a mixture of casualness and seriousness. Meeting Yang Cui's eyes, she said softly, "The child who almost died on the operating table… that was me. Wang Zhan would never have provoked those evil people if it wasn't to save me. They lack humanity. Even if we had never offended them, once they set their sights on us, we wouldn't have the freedom to live."

Yang Cui was stunned.

She remembered when Yao Yao first arrived—a well-behaved, lovely girl who was especially fond of her, Wang Zhan's mother, and always helped out in small ways. Their bond had naturally deepened over time. During that period, Yao Yao had told her a story, a story about the dark conspiracies within the Federation.

She remembered it.

"...I think I heard it from someone. There was a girl with no Talent who desperately wanted to become a Martial Artist, so she joined a private Martial Arts School. But once she was in, it was too late for regrets. Inside, they were actually using live humans for experiments. Whether you lived or died wasn't up to you…"

Back then, Yao Yao had seemed somewhat downcast. Yang Cui had merely thought her kind-hearted and believed the story to be true, so she hadn't dwelled on it.

Who would have thought that this girl had nearly died at their hands? And Yao Yao had explicitly said the girl in the story hadn't just endured it once, but five, six, seven times…

How did she manage to survive all of that?

Looking at her son's face, Yang Cui suddenly saw the image of her late husband. She might not know much else, but their kindness and sense of justice were undeniably inherited.

What reason could she possibly use to dissuade him now? A wave of sadness washed over Yang Cui.

"Go and do what you have to do. Just… be careful. Your mother only has you left now…"

Seeing his mother's slightly trembling gaze, a tremor went through Wang Zhan's heart as well. It was only then that he realized that despite how strong his mother might seem, she was ultimately just an ordinary woman, with the tenderness of a little girl and a fear of loneliness hidden deep within her heart.

Thus, Wang Zhan replied with a reassuring smile, "Mom, don't worry. Someone will handle this. Our mission right now is to go home…"

DRING DRING DRING…

A call came in.

"See? They're here," Wang Zhan grinned. Yang Cui shot him an exasperated glance.

Picking up the phone he had almost forgotten existed, Wang Zhan greeted, "Long time no see."

"Long time no see."

It was Yang Zecheng.

He hadn't been at the airport earlier because he had received news. As the one in charge, he had immediately rushed off to try and control the situation. It was only after everything was finally under control again that he called to apologize to Wang Zhan.

Although he didn't know the current extent of Wang Zhan's strength, an old security guard who had recently joined his side had told him that this investment was very valuable and that he shouldn't jeopardize their relationship.

He must have become even stronger! Yang Zecheng thought.

"...There are no problems in the city now. The man earlier was just an ordinary person. But you still need to be careful. We can deal with ordinary people, but Martial Artists… you'll have to handle them."

Wang Zhan hummed in acknowledgment and smiled. "Alright, thank you for your hard work. I'll get my mother home first. We can catch up another time."

"Alright!"

Truthfully, Wang Zhan didn't know what had become of his tens of billions under Yu Lan's management. But for some reason, he felt his status had significantly, yet imperceptibly, increased.

Could it be because I broke through to the level nine Martial Master realm? he wondered. But only heaven, earth, and I knew the truth, so that shouldn't be it.

"It seems I'll have to find an opportunity to check on my businesses and see what kind of tricks Yu Lan has been up to…" Wang Zhan mused aloud.

It was rather laughable. A man who wanted to start a business, instead of diligently working on it, had rushed off to fight on the Star War Battlefield. As a result, after returning to Earth, he found that the person who had accepted his ideas and executed his plans seemed to have achieved even more remarkable results than he himself could have. This, then, was the importance of talent!

Quietly, the white car that had tried to ambush them from behind and the black car blocking the road had long since disappeared. But Wang Zhan, already on high alert, felt his mental energy flow outwards, encroaching on his Surroundings. He unconsciously became like a deity, aware of every movement in the area. How could he afford to be careless again?

Compared to the Star War Battlefield, the lethal dangers on Earth were more insidious, yet they left unforgettable, deeply etched marks.

Thus, Wang Zhan immediately tossed a tiny seed in an indescribable direction.

The next moment, a roar echoed, "ROAR! Wang Zhan! You dare try to command me!"

BOOM...

BOOM...

BOOM...

A bizarre, formidable red figure materialized before the convoy. The drivers, all level 5 Martial Generals, were advancing at high speed. Their faces contorted in fury as they stared at the bellowing, indistinct figure and the dense Spiritual Energy emanating from it. One of them roared, "Wang Zhan is just ahead! His mother is leaving the Federal Martial Arts Academy today—this is his biggest weakness! Charge through and grab her!"

It had to be said, the Original Organization was truly omnipresent, having even discovered that Yang Cui was staying at the Federal Martial Arts Academy.

And so, on the very day Wang Zhan returned, during Yang Cui's journey out of the Federal Martial Arts Academy, she was targeted by individuals with ulterior motives. They were determined to use Yang Cui, Wang Zhan's greatest weakness, to force him into submission and capture him.

However, if they couldn't discern the true form of the figure manifested from Spiritual Energy, how could Wang Zhan fail to see them clearly? The corners of Wang Zhan's mouth lifted slightly. The mad man awoke within his domain. Wang Zhan had initially thought of trying to curb its volatile temper, but since these fools had barged in so recklessly, they couldn't blame him for using a borrowed knife to kill.

It shouldn't be forgotten that the mad man's power was even more terrifying than Wang Zhan's own. It was like the entity Wei Daoming had described—a being where vital energy, Essence Energy, and mental energy were perfectly integrated. The only caveat was that the mental energy Wang Zhan expended was the source of its power, and this incurred a certain degree of depletion. But what did that matter?

Thus, accompanied by a heaven-shattering roar that, strangely, no one seemed to hear, a pair of enormous fists suddenly descended from the sky. They smashed down violently onto the lead car, sending a violent tremor through the heart of the level 5 Martial General driving it.

"No, no, no! This isn't a Martial Master's power! This is…"

CRACK...

BOOM BOOM...

"Wang Zhan! You dare to control me! I will kill you! I absolutely will kill you!"

The cars ahead were still speeding forward. The mad man roared continuously, yet failed to notice that its own speed perfectly matched that of the sedans at its feet. Furthermore, it seemed to create no breeze, no ripples in the air.

Meanwhile, the middle-aged man—a level 5 Martial General—had been left behind by the others. His car had been torn apart by the mad man, and he himself was drenched in fresh blood, though not mortally wounded. He finally understood. He finally understood what that power was!

"Grandmaster! Grandmaster! That must be the power of a Grandmaster!"

And a top-level Grandmaster at that!

No one knew that the mad man within Wang Zhan's domain shared almost the same realm state as Wang Zhan. In other words, the stronger Wang Zhan became, the stronger the mad man became. It was so powerful that if Wang Zhan wasn't careful, he could actually be defeated by the mad man; the thought alone was horrifying.

But how could these parasites, who had lingered in the Earth Federation for so long that they no longer dared to even set foot on the Star War Battlefield, possibly know that above a top-level Grandmaster, there was yet another realm…

With this realization, the middle-aged man hastily pulled out his phone. It was soaked with fresh blood but still somewhat operable. He frantically dialed a number and, once connected, blurted out without pause, "Be careful! That guy is already a top-level Grandmaster!"

However, the only response he received was:

BOOM!

It was like a thunderbolt on a clear day, crashing through his mind and making his heart clench. The phone slipped from his grasp, clattered to the ground, and shattered, completely useless.

The middle-aged man, now aware of Wang Zhan's true strength, sank to the roadside, his body weak. Disbelief warred with a rising despair as he thought, "The Original Organization... this time... what kind of monster have we provoked?!"

Perhaps they only knew one name:

"Wang Zhan!"

ROAR!
