Getting a Technology System in Modern Day

Chapter 983: "Oh shit"

"FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!!!!!!!!!!"

The leader of the Elara shouted in anger as he walked at an increasing pace, surrounded by his family with royal guards flanking them on both sides, being very vigilant as they hurried through the underground tunnel towards the escape location.

Everyone else was extremely silent, with only their steps contributing to the noise, which grew calmer and calmer the closer they got to their bunker.

This corridor was created and constantly updated for more than a millennium whenever a new technology was made available to them. However, it was the first time in a few centuries that anyone other than technicians and testers had set foot in it and was actually putting it to use.

"Sir, we need to hurry, as the lockdown sequence is going to take longer," the head of royal guard security said without turning his head, focusing on the data the sensors in their vicinity showed him.

"Don't fucking rush me," Costcka, the Elara leader, shouted back, but amidst his shout, he silently increased his pace.

It was a way to vent his anger. To him, even being inside this corridor was no different than the highest level of disgrace he could ever experience, especially having been made to do that despite the entire Conclave pushing its full might to attack the Terran Empire.

Although it looked normal, this corridor was a work of art. It acted as the road toward a wormhole that was already open and active to send them to a safe location where they would continue to exert their control in case their defense forces were breached and their capital star system was taken over by invading forces.

It was monitoring every known spectrum, including gravity and space; even the slightest unaccounted change would alert the security forces.

This was the reason they were forced to walk when there were many means of transportation, as bringing those into this corridor would pollute the data collected by the sensors, increase variability, and, in turn, might miss something important.

As they got close to the end of the corridor where the massive gate was, it slowly started opening, but only after it verified that the door they had entered through was completely closed and inaccessible to everyone. It revealed an already open wormhole.

With the door now fully open and a way to get away from the planet now visible, the leader's family quickened their pace even further, wanting to be away from this planet as fast as possible, resulting in all of them going through the door that was connected to the wormhole.

But just as the door closed, the sensors in the corridor sent a ping that there was an anomaly. The head of royal security just chalked it up to the disturbance caused by the door closing as he jumped into the wormhole moments before it closed.

"Why is nothing ready?" Costcka shouted when he found the safe location was not ready for him to immediately get to work.

"We were in the middle of a technological refurbishment when the attacks happened, but we will be ready in twenty minutes," the head of security said as he turned to the workers who were now scanning the location for any anomaly and gestured for them to accelerate their pace.

"Tell me when everything is ready and don't disturb me until then," he said, walking to his private room before locking himself up, wanting to get a moment of rest before he returned to work.

………………………………..

As he sat in a reclining chair in his office, his mind was racing as he looked for ways to turn this situation around and salvage his power. In his mind, he now considered the war already lost, as the empire was now in control while the Conclave was bickering and hindering each other for their own benefits, with none of them wanting to make a sacrifice for the sake of rescuing others, promoting unity, and creating a chance for a comeback, just because they were afraid that they were going to be attacked.

He thought that their rival, the Feyn, was most likely laughing at their situation, and knew that even if the empire didn't manage to breach their planets and was forced to retreat, the Feyn would most likely use this as an opportunity to attack them. Depending on how they did that, they could suffer great losses.

"Do I have to sacrifice a planet to rally the Conclave to unity?" he asked himself as he leaned forward, his hands resting on his lap, holding his head. He considered destroying a planet of his own civilization and pointing to it as something the empire would do the moment they got control of a planet of any civilization.

At the moment, since the situation was different from civilization to civilization, with some being attacked and some not, there was a sense of everyone looking out for themselves. But if it was shown that the empire would destroy any planet they got their hands on, killing everyone and everything on it, it would unite them, as they would realize that the moment the empire came knocking, they had the possibility of losing a planet and its citizens forever.

"Unfortunately, you won't be doing that," an answer to his unasked question was delivered with a voice coming from behind him, causing him to shake from the sudden fear he felt. He was facing the door and was one hundred percent sure that no one had followed behind him at all.

He remained in that position for a moment before he jumped from his chair. Just as he was about to shout and attract the attention of security, a hand was placed on his back, and in an instant, he lost consciousness. Even after that, he didn't fall down at all, as the pressure sensors on the ground continued logging a consistent weight from the leader, who looked like he had tried to stand but decided against it and sat down.

"Let's get to work," an imperial soldier's avatar, who was still floating, said as he removed a small device. It floated on its own, moving to latch itself onto Costcka's head while still keeping its flotation active in order not to have any of its weight registered on the super-sensitive pressure sensors on the ground as it started downloading his brain data.

…………………….

Costcka opened his eyes, finding himself inside a white room. Despite feeling fear, he didn't find himself having any energy to act upon it.

"Welcome to the prison of change," Nyx said as she appeared in front of him in a constantly shifting figure.

"Fuck," Costcka said, feeling a pit in his chest as he realized the empire had taken him.

And his nightmare had begun.
